This is pretty awesome, especially because of the homage to Brendan Burke, whose story is very important. The Cubs will be represented as well by Ernie Banks.

I played in the Chelsea Challenge (an annual gay hockey tournament in NYC with 14 teams from all over North America) this past weekend and met Andrew and some of the Chicago guys who put this together. They are some of the nicest guys ever, and everybody at the tournament was thrilled that this worked out for them.

I can't even begin to describe how happy this makes me. The majority of my good friends are gay and I serve on the board of a non-profit for GLBT youth in my area, and we've been working so hard to get our group off the ground, and our biggest goal is breaking down barriers between the straight and gay communities. I've always felt like the biggest barrier there was was in mainstream media, namely sports-where 'manliness' is paramount, and when there were rumblings of this last week, I didn't get my hopes up, but I was so excited to read this this morning.
I greatly admire the Blackhawks(and the Cubs) for taking this step and having a float in the Chicago Pride Parade- having a championship hockey team represented in an event like this does wonders for fostering understanding and acceptance of the GLBT community in mainstream sports, which I think will have more of an effect than they think it will right now. I hope to see more of this, in other leagues, and with other championship teams in years to come. -------------------- "Can I work here? I'll do anything.
