Welp, completing that bracket for me was like reading about advanced quantum physics.

I wish there were teams called: Pete, Pick This One U. I'd feel a whole lot more confident in my picks then. Unless they named their college that just to throw me off, but that's a lot of work for one quick joke. I'd also imagine enrollment would suffer that year.

Is Lamar a college or just one guy playing Vermont tonight? I guess it doesn't matter. I'll take my chances with one Lamar playing against five white guys likely named Tobias, Caleb and River.

Always do two brackets in the pool I'm in. A bracket using my head, following stats, trends and experts. Then there is one using my own gut instinct.

Therefore the "smart" Final Four is Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio State and UNC with Kentucky beating the Tar Heels in the final.

The "instinct" Final Four is Duke, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Kansas, with the Spartans taking down the Jayhawks.

I went purely on instinct this season, haven't not watched a single minute of college basketball (except for the live Syracuse game that I was dragged to). For example, Murray St. versus Colorado St? I went with Colorado because I can't take any team called "Murray" that seriously. "Murray!" Sounds like the frazzled husband of an old Jewish housewife. Of course, they destroyed Colorado.

And now I'm watching Southern Miss vs. KSU. I'm rooting for Southern Miss. Why? Southern Miss sounds hot. I'm a big fan of the southern miss, what with their accents and grits. Carrie Underwood? Taylor Swift? I'm in. They're losing by six right now, by the way.

My worst mistake? That I didn't pick the Irish to upset Kentucky into the Final Four. That will happen. Cinderella will announce herself to the ball, and her name will be Katie and she will be slurring her speech and wearing a ton of shamrock stickers on her fat red face. Irish!!!!

None of my reasoning paid off yesterday.

Wichita State -- "Wichita is a cool sounding city. Bad ass. Where you from? Which-it-taw!"

UNLV -- "They always cheat! Good to see them back."

Long Beach St -- "One, two, three and to the four ..."

They'll be in this game yet. Cincy is not pulling away here. A better team would be up by about 30 points right now. Still 18% shooting was around the Butler/UConn levels last year

Here is my gripe with the tournament. Do you know why people are actaully paying attention to college basketball right now? The bracket. Not because of North Carolina, Kentucky or Duke. Because they want to see who advances.

Despite this, they're currently airing NC State/San Diego State on Tru TV of all places, a game that has a TON of interest because NC State is a sexy upset pick. 12:30 PM on a network not even everyone gets.

Meanwhile Duke taking on Lehigh will be on at prime time at 7:15. It's beyond stupid. Unless you're an actual fan of Duke who in their right mind is going to care about that game? I know some will say it's because they have to have that 8/9 game directly before or after, but I call rubbish.

They can just air the sure fire blow out games in the day hours and put the better teams out at night. With 24 hours off, you could have Duke play at 12:30 and Xaiver/ND go at it at 7:00.

It's based on draw. Duke gets rating, by fans and by haters. Syracuse is a 1 seed also but they played in the afternoon.

Yeah, NC State! Why? Because you never give up, don't ever give up. Until next round when you get destroyed by ... Belmont! Don't mess with the Bruins. Belmont University, pride of Long Island.

Wait, this isn't a college dedicated to promoting the final leg of the triple crown. Crap.

What does potential points mean and how do we have different numbers on that? I'm sure I could find that out on the page somewhere, but I'd rather just ask, thevett style.

Calling a first round winner correctly is worth 1, a second 2, third 4, etc. UNLV lost in the first round. You don't get to adjust your predictions on the fly; you commit to what you think the bracket will look like before the tourney starts. When a team you have winning games is knocked out, you lose all the points that team could've earned in your bracket. Example:

Person A had UNLV winning in the first round and losing in the second, so A really only lost one potential point - the point for that first round game. UNLV has no further impact on A's bracket anyway.

Person B had UNLV reaching the Elite Eight (:cough: Jenny :cough:), so B lost the point for the first round game, two for the second round game B had them winning, and four for the third round game.

A could still score 191 total points if they hit every other prediction still in play correctly. B could only score 185. Hence, potential points. And if your potential points drop below someone else's actual score, you lose, because you'll never be able to outscore them.

I don't know if I've ever seen a 14 seed get so much play than Belmont. I bought into the hype too. And....they're getting killed.

The Bonnies on the other hand? Look out.

They are down by 8. I guess this means Syracuse "killed" whoever the hell they almost lost to yesterday...

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

Welp, my bracket is going to struggle now. That's fantastic, though. Go Norfolk. I love upsets.
