This thread jumped the eagle a few pages back.

I remember it being discussed once before but I cant remember if the 4 callup minimum still applies in the playoffs until the Whales season is over. I'd sure like to see Erixon in over Bickel.

Did Erixon look significantly better than Bickel in the games they both played. I actually haven't been able to watch Erixon in action this season. I know Torts has a hard on for Bickel, but did Erixon look any good? Good enough to trust in the playoffs?

I would say yes in that he didn't do anything glaringly stupid and had an assist or two.

Meanwhile, in the one good game against a playoff opponent the Rangers have played in a while, a thread that should have been celebratory since we're all rooting for the same team was half full of "HAHA! Dur, I guess they don't have a problem against playoff teams!!" and "LOLOL POPGUN OFFENSE?!" Based on 1 period of hockey. Great.

Show me where this happened because I must be having short term memory loss from that thread. And I'm not being sarcastic. Even after they clinched the worst that happened was me posting two(TWO!) quotes from those who said the #1 seed was gone.

And if you dont think ultimate steve, jk, KOD and yourself wouldnt be pounding your chests if the Team Negative portion of this debate(separate from the doomsday shit) turned out to be right in the playoffs you are high.

So what your saying is any person that is part of Team Negative is rooting for the Rangers to fail? Yeah, not being extreme on the point at all. I don't think you read a single thing anyone that is "Team Negative" has to say.

There have been some really valid points brought up by people, namely their lack of depth. Look at a team like the Caps. Are they a 7th seed? Yes. But their organizational depth right now is pretty stellar. They have brought in a good bunch of guys from Hershey this year and are still a playoff team. A guy like Perrault became a very competent scorer, and Keith Aucoin, a guy who was a perennial minor leaguer earned himself a spot on the team while someone like Joel Ward ended up in the press box.

While we arguably have a better starting lineup, we have nowhere near that type of depth right now. Our 13th forward is John Scott and our 14th? Stu Bickel? Kris Newbury?

But in your eyes, anyone who is deemed part of Team Negative means they're rooting for Ottawa. Yup. I guess you caught us red handed clapping.gif

QUOTE(Greatone @ Apr 9 2012, 10:34 PM) *
The major difference Leeds is that Abdelkader wasnt guaranteed a spot in the lineup, and in the end never played a game for Detroit in the playoffs. Whereas Kreider knows going in he is not on the bubble for the playoff roster after the season he just played. This is all speculation on your part on why a kid hasnt signed a pro deal less than 3 days after winning a college championship.

I feel like this is a debate if he ends up not signing. Not before we know and for what reasons.

I just want to be clear that I think he'll sign. I just don't understand why he wouldn't. I haven't speculated on why he hasn't signed. But if he doesn't, I hold a certain opinion on what the Rangers should do with him at that point. Early on, it was mentioned that the Rangers that Kreider isn't obligated onto the Rangers in any sense, but HDH brought up a good point -- the Rangers showed investment in him by not moving him as a trade asset. If you believe speculation, they held him instead of sending him to the gulag for Rick Nash. (I know, only a part of a ridiculous trade demand, blah blah.) Arguably, they saved him in the hopes of him being the postseason depth that they're going to need. I personally think that it says a lot about the quality of an organization that they keep certain people around, a trend that the Rangers have reversed in the past few seasons.

That said, what if the opposite of the your former statement is true? Someone smarter than me should look it up, but what becomes of his eligibility if he signs and doesn't play a single postseason game? Maybe that's the hold-up. Maybe he doesn't want to sign because Tortorella is going with John Mitchell, no matter what. I still think this is a horrible decision. The roster spot in 2012-13 is his to lose, so it's a clear path toward solidifying that spot and making yourself more money (by crediting a year in free agency). The CBA status might be a concern, but it's a concern for everyone.

Whatever. Did he sign yet? Every time I work on a new post, someone's Twitters that he's on the verge of signing.

I'm pretty sure this statement pretty much explains your belief that people like myself, KOD etc are getting ready to "pound our chests" and say I told you so if the Rangers lose to Ottawa.

For the record, I would LOVE to be wrong. I hope the Rangers go 16-0, score 5 goals per game while giving up nothing, and sweep their way to a Stanley Cup. Why? Because I'm a Rangers fan.

But just because I root passionately for the Rangers doesn't mean I have to believe that there are unicorns and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow and blindly believe that the Rangers must have no flaws since they're a #1 seed.

You can go talk about Kreider again for all I care, but I'm not just going to ignore statements like this, even though I took the bait and replied to some post that perfectly exemplified what a troll is.

Still counts, I believe. His eligibility begins in the season of which he signed his contract. So even if he plays no games, 1 year of his entry level contract is burned.

People present detailed arguments with stats on how the Rangers rarely seem to bury opponents (killer instinct), have a bad recent history against playoff caliber teams and have a sluggish offense, and not that it's doom and gloom, but it's simply a little worrisome. The Rangers explode on the Flyers for one period and you guys go into a minor trolling frenzy. Meanwhile, all these things come to fruition the next two games and no one goes all capslock trolling you and SATS. Kinda obvious, hm? I mean, shit, this was before I read the thread, got pissed off and decided to change things, and even before then most of the mods in the thread were telling you guys to cool it. It was pretty obvious.

Anyway, I think the standards have been made pretty clear as to what does and doesn't go from now on, so let's move on.

Well since it seems like this post wont get addressed from the necessary party I'll respond:

Of course I dont think Pete, KOD, Dunc or Steve hopes the Rangers will lose to be right. And I'm only slightly convinced you are in the same boat since you seem more hellbent on being right for once than actually having the team be successful.

Me saying "pounding your chests" in no way means Team Negative, which once again is separate from chicken littles like you who sacrificed the #1 seed/division with two weeks to play, is rooting against the Rangers. Only a child would think that. You guys would be mad/upset/disappointed as well. But IMO that wouldnt stop you especially from posting "I HATE that I was right but...." "see I said we didnt have what it took!" posts.

Thats all that meant. Sometimes I think you take this whole Ranger fan messageboard thing a tad too seriously. I dont sit around doing my thing thinking of ways to stick it to Team Negative or ways to "troll" by saying SATS and I arent the only ones that would rub it in a little. I know everyone here wants to attend a parade at City Hall. But there is a small small part of me that does believe that if the Rangers suffered an early exit, behind all of the disappointment, you would be a little happy that you would be able to come to Rangerland and post a 10 paragraph post-mortum on how you called it.

Now hopefully that puts an end to that.

Not to add any fuel to the fire here, but due to his age Kreider's ELC can be for only 2 years, so should Kreider appear in the playoffs this season Slats would need to re-up him (at what we would assume an increased salary) after next season.

This IS NOT a comment regarding Kreider, but rather the process.....I understand the NCAA rules regarding players dealing with professional clubs, but you'd think there would have been an under-the-table understanding worked out before now.

I don't think that's correct. He was born April 30, 1991. On September 15 of this year, the year we're assuming he signs his ELC, he'll be 21. Players 18-21 when signing their ELC can sign for 3 years. When you hit 22 it would only be 2 years.

I was quoting another source (I think it was Prospect Park) which I cannot at the moment remember. I just looked at CapGeek and it's 3 years as you wrote and a max (sans bonuses) of $925,000. Hagelin, I believe, has a 2-year deal.

Reports are Kreider was attending classes at BC as of this morning.

Go play for the Rangers in Madison Square Garden? Or go to 18th Century America seminar? Play for the Rangers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Or finish up advanced Prob & Stat course? Golly, this is tough.

He only worked his ass off to finish school in three years instead of four. Now the asshole has the audacity to make the Rangers--The New York Rangers--wait?

I looked yesterday and I can not find information on this. What does his accelerated course load mean? That he'll graduate this spring?

If that's the case, I can understand him wanting to do his final few weeks at BC and graduate normally. But if he still has something like 3-12 credits to complete, he's either going to have to put his NHL career on hold for another year or do it on the side anyway.

For the record, I can understand why people may be upset and frustrated at him.

But perhaps, you should be directing your rage at Glen Sather, and not a guy who may in fact, want to finish his semester and graduate college.

It's not Kreider's fault that Sather played his cards horribly between January and March. He traded away both of our press box depth forwards in Christensen and Wolski, I'm sure with the belief he was going to bring in another player.

However, he wasn't able to get it accomplished. Whether it was a fascination with Nash distracting him from other deals, or misjudging just how much of a sellers market the deadline season will be, Sather gave up our NHL forward depth for nothing, unless you consider John Scott a useful commodity.

I give Sather a lot of credit for being the guy in charge during this rebuild of a lot of home grown guys. But the fact is, the guy completely handcuffed us in terms of having little to no depth at forward. Yes, Zucc's getting hurt stunk, but you still want more than 1 useful body at your disposal for a 2 month playoff run.

So again, you guys can go rag on Kreider. I really don't think it's fair though. The expectations being set for him anyway are incredibly ambitious. IF the guy does come to the Rangers, alot of you are expecting him to become an immediate contributor. In short, he's already being set up to be a horrible failure, whether he comes tomorrow, or in October.

I think the signing merits its own thread, so I split it off. Post there from now on.
