Always thought H2O was ok..WSOU used to play them alot..is Sick of it All still around?? I used to love them...
Edit : Speaking of which I hear SOU has their online streaming working - every time I would check, it didnt work....but it is now..

From 1988 - 1992, WSOU was one of the only radio stations that I listened to regularly. I don't know what it's like now, but back then it was great.

Though I have to say, I used to get annoyed/amused when the metal would be interrupted by The Catholic Hour, or worse - Seton Hall Baseball.

I used to root for them to go winless to make sure they didn't screw me up further because they made the playoffs.

It's still the only station I listen to. I don't know how I'll manage in NC, as my tape player is broken, my CD player is broken, and I'm sure there will be no good radio. I think I need to buy one with ipod support and have it installed.

WSOU had a period where they couldn't play anti-christian stuff, so slayer disappeared. A lot of that metal is back, but I think slayer is still banned.

They're mostly decent. They'll play pure crap from time to time, like Korn or Slipknot or Folly, but by and large it's decent stuff. Sometimes you're really lucky and they throw on some Neurosis or Isis or Converge. Sometimes you'll get a good block of The Misfits, Vision of Disorder and Sick of it All. Other times they'll do Muse and Queens of the Stone Age and follow it up with Opeth.

I only listen to the radio in the car. When I'm at home I use mp3s and vinyl exclusively. I should have pointed out that all that broken stuff is in my car.

I've been on a big Monkees kick lately, both their albums and the show. The show is really brilliant. I used to watch it and like it when I was a kid, but as an adult there's lots of anti-establishment themes and stuff to pick up on. I plan on talking about it more in the "Watching" thread at some point. And their albums, I thought they made great music whether they were a phony band or not. Been listening to "The Porpoise Song" a lot yesterday and today, but I'm gonna knock it off because it's a melancholy song and it's giving me a downer...

I watched also when I was kid...love that show. Also have a few 45's - I'm a Believer, I'm not your Stepping Stone (one of my favorite Monkees songs) and one other that I cannot recall.

Did you know? Jack Nicholson received writing and producing credits on The Monkees movie entitled "Head".

So in yet another attempt to get into Jazz - I am listening to "The Roots of Acid Jazz" - it contains tracks from various artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Chico Hamilton, Oliver Nelson, Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins Quartet and Hank Jones - few others as well.

I am digging the Chico Hamilton tune " For Mods Only" and the Oliver Nelson "Stolen Moments" - about half way through now.

Also been diggin on Van Morrison, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald. And I tihnk I smell a Beatles run coming on soon as John Lennon solo stuff has been creeping into my playlists lately and that usually turns into a full blown Beatles run which will likely include heavy doses of the White Album.

Well my signature carries what I'm listening to lately.

From left to right:
Third Creature featuring Jack Logan
Monday Night Recorders with Jack Logan
Chesterfield Kings
Bo Ramsey
Eddie Spaghetti
The Germs
Robert Gordon
Drive By Truckers

...some are new to me and some are music I just happen to be obsessing on. I usually latch onto an album or artist and play it to death and then move on to something else. Working from home I can crank it pretty good and play music all day. Nice perk.

I just ummm..acquired the new Beck album Modern Guilt. Danger Mouse is the producer so I was very hopeful. I really like what he did with MF Doom and Gnarls Barkley.

So far, so good. I really like the first track Orphans and second one Gamma Ray.

Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis have an album out together, Two Men With The Blues. It's really good if you like bluesy jazz.

I still have giant holes in my music experience and reading an article in Entertainment Weekely on The New Classics, I decided to plug some of those holes. I haven't gotten around to the miseducation of Lauren Hill yet but, believe it or not, I've never listened to Purple Rain all the way through so I burned it last night and was listening to it on the way in to work this morning. Wow. That was a pretty fucking epic album. I've always sort of admired Prince from a distance but this is the first time I've actually listened to one of his albums.

I used to laugh at the idea of listening to Prince. I had him looped in with the 'just another pop star' crowd. As I grew older and relaized some of those songs off of Purple Rain still held up over time , my opinion started to change of him and my understanding and respect for his talents grew to a new level.

Then I watched the VH-1 Rock Honors - The Beatles (maybe it was George Harrison) and he blew my effing doors off with the following performace. Let me know if you need help picking your jaw up off the floor.

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

Further proof that Clapton is just a white man who can pay the Blues a little. Prince makes him look like a hack.

I don't have sound at work so I'll listen to that from home but I started hearing a couple of years ago how insanely good he was live and then I was very impressed with his half-time show at the Superbowl. 'Don't know why it took me this long to follow up on but there you go...

The Best of the Icicle Works (import double disc)

They do a really interesting cover of Neil Young's "Needle and the Damage Done," which is on the second, bonus disc (the earlier release had only the first disc). This set also includes "Whisper to a Scream (Birds Fly)," one of my favorite songs from the early-mid 80's, as well as "Understanding Jane" and "When It All Comes Down."

So I've done a little more research on this and now The Black Keys are my new favorite band.

All three albums I have listened to are AMAZING.

Be kind to yourself and check out The Big Come Up, Magic Potion or Attack and Release.

More Tenhi.

This is my absolute favorite non-metal band. Beautiful. I've hawked it on here a few times, with no takers, but I'm doing it again.

I've wanted to start a thread for these guys for some time now but this seems as good a place as any. I boogered a copy of Journey's "Revelation" from an aquaintence just to be sociable and it blew me away. These are new tracks by the way, singers name is Arnel Pineda, who is now very popular in the Pinoy community. Pete may have heard of him. So so awesome!!! I have been listening to it on a loop for almost two weeks. Is it Journey level cheesy? A little. The melodies though. They are stuck. Listen with an open mind, give it a chance.

Finding Arnel Pineda.

Nice. I love Laid by James. The previous statement is not meant to be turned into signature material nor is it to be freely mocked. Failure to comply will get you stir fried in a WOK, Mike D style (for jen).

Ever since I got an XM radio a couple of years back and started listening to the 90's alterantive channel I've found myself listening to songs that I totally forgot were made. For example, anyone remember Candlebox? I can't get that song "You" out of my head. As far as new stuff goes, I'm liking the new 3 Doors down album.

You'll love the rest of the album then - it's the same damned song over and over.

Every person I've met who attended their first concert at the Roseland in the early '90s (my wife included) said that their show was literally the worst they attended. One girl I used to know literally fell asleep on the floor.

They also opened up for Rush on the Counterparts tour. Dreadful...half the crowd booed throughout the set.

I've been into celtic rock/fusion for awhile. I've been listening to Enter the Haggis, The Young Dubliners, Barley Juice. I don't have an iPod or MP3 player so I pretty much just listen to CDs in my car and my wife or daughter's iPods when I travel w/them. Been listening to a lot of Broadway music soundtracks(Wicked, Jekyll & Hyde, The 25th Annual Putnam Co. Spelling Bee, Phantom) because my daughter's into it . I'm getting tired of my CD collection. Need some new stuff.

Paul,

When you're at home you might give Pandora a try. Bavoo mentioned it in another thread, and I've been a Pandora user for about a year or so now. It's good for introducing you to newer acts similar to those that you already like.

Prompted by seeing LisaLisa's name repeatedly pop up on these boards, I went out and bought Lisa Lisa with Cult Jam and Full Force, and Poolside by Nu Shooz.

The former is about what you'd expect from an 80s dance album, especially a freestyle one - two great singles, filled in with complete crap so that they'd have enough for a full recording. And while Lisa Velez was a critical figure of my puberty, she damn sure didn't have the strongest vocal range.

The latter is also a pretty dated sound, lots of synthesizers and electronic drums. But they came up with some catchy melodies and integrated freestyle and pop pretty well, and had some good guitar and horn arrangements.

Both groups, though, were guilty of the classic 80s epidemic - the extended remix. What was wrong with producers back then? "Hey, let's take that catchy radio single, and add three minutes of repetitive and boring instrumental music!"

And yes, I did just make a semi-serious attempt at discussing two freestyle groups from the 80s.
