That first period was a disaster and they got stupid in the third and they still could have won. Play smart and they got this.

I really do hope they see the light and start Eminger.

For being as "big" as they are, Washington seems awfully soft. Now of course, I felt that way after Game 1 against Ottawa, and we ended up in a knock out drag out series.

But from the first 2 games I've seen, we've absolutely pounded this team. We have more than enough bangers, and the Caps have no interest in fights either. Eminger to me has always had more hockey sense and maturity, and in a tight series like this where it seems every small mistake can become a glaring one, you need the Eminger's of the world to go out there.

Either play Eminger or.....If Dubi returns, play 13 forwards and just start the 5 d-men.

Haven't had a chance to read the thread yet, but Washington sucks. Two bullshit goals off of terrible Ranger own zone turnovers, and the third on the second of consecutive power plays called on a dive. Ovechkin is a shell of his former self, Backstrom was invisible, Green is terrible, Holtby can't hold on to a puck to save his life and was completely beaten on the two shots that hit the post. They barely threatened with legitimate chances save for two good shots Ovechkin ripped off. If Jason Chimera is one of your best forwards, you suck as a hockey team.

What an infuriating game. Can't imagine how the Rangers would lose to this team, but I'm sure they'll try and find a way for me. I want my fucking candy!

Speaking of candy, almost walked into Ted Leonsis on 33rd street after the game, and that boy must love his Snickers. Large and in charge. Should have gotten an elbow up on him.

I was a little surprised that Eminger wasn't playing tonight. He proved he can skate. There is no reason I can think of for him not to replace Bickel. Bickel gets only a few minutes a game as it is.

Not too worried, still.

I'm gonna go all KoD on you guys and go ahead and say that call Boyle and the subsequent call on Richards in the third were outrageously soft. The only way the Caps were clearing their zone all game was by clutching and grabbing and cross checking Rangers. All of it goes uncalled and then they call those two bullshit penalties?

Carlson, you used to be cool. You're just a douchebag, diving, pansy.

Anyone who can't figure out by now that Gaborik is currently suffering from a major injury does not know much about hockey. Ever since that nasty shoulder-boards collision early in the Ottawa series, he has avoided all physical contact. It is annoying to listen to commentators question the level of commitment of a player who is obviously playing through a major injury.

Avoided, all physical contact, huh?

Gaborik recored hits in games 2, 5, and 6 of the Ottawa series and in both games of the Washington series so far.

He hasn't been shying away from contact at all. Perhaps he's just been shut down by the opposition's top defenders. Maybe that's why Tortorella moved him to the second line in the third period tonight.

3 bad plays. 2 turnovers and a dumb penalty by a veteran guy.

Cool to watch Tortorella and Kreider motioning to each other to go for that breakaway when he was in the box with about 20 seconds left.

Had an entire row of Caps fans in front of me..typical Maryland crabcake eater fucks with dress shirts tucked into jeans with their stupid Caps hats on.. so obnoxious all game I was stunned to find out they ALL were Caps employees. Way out of line. Cursing up a storm. Taunting. I think I'll watch the rest of these playoffs from the couch.

Not a bad game, just bad bounces.

This, mostly.

Rangers have to tighten up a bit. They got away with about 19 trips yesterday, but then fell victim to a non-call on the Ovechkin goal.

Overall I thought the Rangers were clearly the better team. They hit a few posts, got unlucky on that one Caps goal, had Bickel (who will not play again in the postseason barring serious injury to a defenseman) make a stupid play.

Gaborik HAS TO get better, get more shots, and score a few. Has to, or I don't think we really have a chance for a long run.

I don't know what Anisimov did to get pushed down so far, but I thought when he was on the ice he was as good as any Ranger.

Unlike the Ottawa series, I feel like the Rangers can easily win these next two games on the road. I'm not predicting that, because they have to play much tighter, but I wouldn't be surprised going back to MSG up 3-1.

I don't think it's punishment so much as he's playing effective in that limited role. The easy argument that often irks me is "I don't see why Tortorella plays [insert player, probably Prust being the biggest culprit] and not Anisimov." Well, icetime is a fixed concept, controlled in part by special teams minutes. If you give an extra minute to Anisimov, you take it away from someone else. And if you feel that part of your success is consistent and balanced lines, you don't just take away a minute from someone but you take it away from their whole line. It's not as simple as just switching Prust and Anisimov, because you might make both players less effective by teaming them with unfamilar linemates. This isn't an individual game, it's a team game. Besides, as countless pundits have pointed out this offseason (every offseason, actually), the top lines offset each other so much that it's the grinders that can win game for you. Anisimov might be a terrific weapon for the Rangers because they can bury him and have him play against third-pair defensemen. I also think that Tortorella might adjust his lines to give him more icetime.

I'm guessing that Tortorella is deploying him against lesser opponents to try to exploit them, with fair success.

The Caps hit a bunch of posts in Game 1, the Rangers hit a bunch in Game 2

Moltby gave up some softies in Game 1, Lundqvist made a horrible mistake in this one.

I think it will be a long and close series....probably 6-7 games but the Rangers should beat this team.

Moltby gives up rebounds like candy flying out of a pinata, the Rangers just need to park people in front.

That's all well and good, but Tortorella should have gotten Anisimov some ice time in the third. You could see that the top 2 lines were gassed from over use in the third. 4:56 of ice time for a guy who played pretty well? Come on. Throw him in every other shift to give the top guys some rest. I thought he deserved more ice time than he got. Hustled to draw that first power play, had that beauty of a shot off Holtby's face and that nice pass to spring Rupp.

The Boyle penalty late in the third was bullshit but the Richard's penalty which led the goal was not. However, Backstrom interfered with Boyle which allowed Ovechkin a couple extra seconds to tee up the shot. That was a borderline bad non-call by the refs there, and I say borderline because it was just subtle enough by Backstrom. Still with two sets of eyes on the play off the face off, it should have been called. Irrelevant probably since Boyle shouldn't have been taking the face off anyway. He's was terrible on faceoffs from that side of the ice all night.

Wasted opportunity last night.

I think that is what makes this loss so damn frustrating. If you get out-coached, out-played and out-skated, then you just have to tip your cap. But these overhyped cock cobblers beat us last night and they shouldn't have.

QUOTE(Alitaki @ May 1 2012, 01:51 PM) *
The Boyle penalty late in the third was bullshit but the Richard's penalty which led the goal was not. However, Backstrom interfered with Boyle which allowed Ovechkin a couple extra seconds to tee up the shot. That was a borderline bad non-call by the refs there, and I say borderline because it was just subtle enough by Backstrom. Still with two sets of eyes on the play off the face off, it should have been called. Irrelevant probably since Boyle shouldn't have been taking the face off anyway. He's was terrible on faceoffs from that side of the ice all night.

Boyle was 6 for 14 on draws last night. 3 for 7 in the defensive zone. If he is not going to win it, at least tie it up. There are way too many times where he loses the draw cleanly. Tortorella thinks this guy is great ion draws and he is not. As a matter of fact he doesn't uses his size advantage in a situation he has the upper hand.

NYRangers were in a X-mas Holiday spirit last night and gave away a game. The Richards call was horrible, but they already had placed themselves in such situation by gift wrapping 2 goals. Holtby left a few juicy rebounds that should have found net, but for some reason it is not in the Rangers culture to go looking for rebounds in front of net. Their forwards habit is to divert to some type of play behind goal line. I know Rangers are not saint,s but Caps get away with an awful amount of interference in their defensive zone.

Nothing happened last night that made me worry. I didn't feel we got hosed by any calls, and this team didn't play anywhere near as bad as they did in any of the Ottawa losses.

I'm still pretty confident, I never thought they'd sweep.

This was a huge lost opportunity. Caps going home 2 games down and with the likely questions surrounding Hunter's decision to give Ovechkin role type of minutes would have put a significant amount of pressure on whole team and Holtby. In my opinion Ovechkin looked disinterested in first game. Another loss accompany with questionable coaching decisions could have helped maintain Alex in doldrums. Now series tied at 1 game at piece and scoring the winning goal did not only give Caps a reprieve, but I think it re-energizes Ovechkin. Most people expected a long series, but the chance to make it short was there for the taking. A motivated Ovechkin will certainly raise the Caps' level of play. Rangers not only need to match, but actually exceed urgency and play smart hockey like a contender for Cup usually plays.

I heard a snippet of Torts's press conference today on NHL Radio driving home from grad school.

Guy was in great form today. If anyone knows where you can get links to it, I think you'd all enjoy.

Which is probably just what Torts wants. Talk about him. Write articles about how he's a jerk. Deflects it from the team.

Here's a link to where you can watch it - I don't know if this can be embedded.

I cant believe someone actually asked him why he acts like this with the media (that's about 1:08 in to the video after a bunch of curt one word answers). Torts give them absolutely nothing.
