Hank is now the first goalie in NHL history to start his career with 7 consecutive 30 win seasons

No he's not. Graphic showed he's tied w/Tony Esposito and Ken Dryden

Esposito went 5-4-4 in his first NHL season. Dryden went 6-0 in his first NHL season. So yes, they both had 7 consecutive seasons with at least 30 wins, but they did not do it from their first season in the league like Lundqvist.

I think Staal is fourth on the team's defensive depth chart right now which is an ideal place for him.

Maybe for the remainder of this season because its all hands on deck at this point, but going forward I wonder if this is a problem for him. Top pairing guys rely so heavily on rhythm against the other teams top players, I just dont see where he gets that back. Do you? Maybe I'm totally off, but if you're looking to add another 30 goal winger in this offseason via trade, you can deal from depth here.

I said something similar in an earlier thread. I think he could be a good trade piece, but I wonder if we can afford a 20+ goal scorer from the money you'll save from Wolski and Feds. You got rid of Wojtek already so that's $3.8 million + over $1 million from Feds' salary. Depending on what you get, you could have a 3rd line with some combination of Hagelin, Dubinsky, Kreider and a free agent signing. You then move Boyle and Prust to where they should be.

I think moving forward next year, the Rangers will be in an ideal situation where they don't have to play the top pairing almost 30 minutes a game. You'll have time for a pairing of Staal and MDZ to develop and I think they could do very well, allowing each person to utilize their strengths.

You can't really pair Staal with Del Zotto. Both have only played the left side their entire career until recently for DZ. And he has looked terrible on the rightside.

I think DZ and Stralman have been a good pairing. Stralman seems to get better with each passing game.

He even throws checks now.

still not sure why this was not a penalty. Calling his motions "accidental" is a bit farfetched, looking at the replays posted so helpfully on NHL.com...

Wouldn't add drama the game. Rangers score, they ice the game. Rangers don't score they're still in the lead.

Volchenkov never closed hand on the puck, which Emrick and McGuirre explained was the rule. Replay showed Volchenkov doing a snow angle with puck around his ankles. From replay shown, they appeared to be right.

The rule explicitly states, "collecting the puck into the body"

I guess cutting and pasting from the NHL rule book wasn't explicit enough.

Kerry Fraser agrees that it should have been a penalty shot.

That doesn't help the argument that it should have been a penalty shot.
