Regardless if you think the WH has distracted the team or not, I think it can be pretty much agreed upon this guy has come unhinged this year. At this point, I think he'll enjoy leaving Boston for a smaller market. Florida? Tampa?

What's kind of ironic is I've always felt the lighting and television product at MSG looks a lot better than almost any other arena. Pittsburgh and D.C. for example often look tremendously dark regardless of what network is airing the game.

On the ice. Maybe it's better this year but in the past I'm pretty sure they had a reputation around the league as not having the greatest ice OR lighting. I think Jagr mentioned it a few times in his time here.

Again, it's not an excuse and like Ree said, no one else points to it after a loss like Thomas did, but hearing a player say the lighting isn't great at MSG isn't news, to me at least.

Reminds me of when Brodouchebag said the reason the Devils got pwned in the second round was because the Rangers were too easy in the first round.

Lighting on the ice is Tim Thomas's problem, I think. I believe he thought it was too bright.

Here is his exact quote:

Thomas was asked by the Boston Herald if he is ready for the increased workload that awaits if backup Tuukka Rask is injured significantly.

"Yeah," he told the Herald. "Especially if I go to an arena with lights."

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/03/05/tim-...cting-his-play/

I think I recall something where Ruslan Fedotenko, when asked about playing at MSG after he first signed here, mentioned something about the "dark" lighting. So, it's been mentioned before by players, but poor Tim Thomas is on such an incredible douche run that anything he says just digs himself into a deeper ditch.

Thomas is 2-6-1 career at the Garden.

On EDIT: please note that I am not defending Tim Thomas since he is clearly a jack-ass. Just pointing out, as others have mentioned, the lighting thing has been said before.

I dont think its better or worse. Its just perception because is is different. MSG is the only arena in pro sports that uses yellow light instead of white lights. I'm sure this its been a concious decision over the years to keep it the same. The lighting is absolutely the reason MSG has a different vibe than other arenas.

These last two games have killed Lundqvist's GAA. He went from 1.75 to 1.82.

I'm sorry. I really don't like to be the jerk here. But people have BEGGED for us to get a home grown team built on developing our own young talent. You're not the only one to talk about the inexperience, so this isn't just aimed at you.

I never said inexperience was going to end our year. If the Rangers win the Easten Conference, as it looks to be right now, or even worse, the friggin Presidents trophy.. there's gonna be a TON of pressure placed on them to get out of that first and second round. There always is. And this group largely has never experienced that pressure. Even the goalie. They're always the 8 seed. You see a team that cant handle it every year.

Well, if we always flame out in the 1st while barely making it as the underdog, then let's try it another way.

I recognize it's silly but I'd like to dominate Chicago on Friday. It means almost nothing but, for some reason, that 4-2 defeat left a bad taste. I think I just have a chip on my shoulder for all Western teams (the American League).

It's pretty understandable. When your team gives up 4 in the first period, it tends to leave a bad taste.

QUOTE(jkman61494 @ Mar 4 2012, 11:15 PM) *
Just for the sake of taking Greatone and other's side on this, it could be they hit a Stanley Cup wall. Maybe Horton is that important. Tim Thomas could have gotten old. But for whatever reason, this little slump has all of a sudden turned into a 6 week slide that's seen the Bruins playing well below average hockey.

Or they could be plain old regressing to the mean. They weren't a 49 point team (3-7), and they weren't a 138 point team (21-3-1). They were somewhere in the middle and their record is correcting. Winning isn't 100% random, but it isn't 0% random either.

No way man. Its totally the White House.

Whats funny is how people are saying Thomas is distracted by this. His numbers this year are right in line with his Boston career norm and would be his second best season overall in his career. He hasn't given up more than 3 goals in any of his starts since then until yesterday.

When they only won 3 games in October nobody was blaming any outside reasons. Just like no one praised Thomas' weirdness for the Bruins going on an absolutely unreal tear in November, in which Thomas didnt lose a game. Then when Nathan Horton(yes JK I would say their top line winger is important) goes down for months, the key offensive guys slump for weeks and Rask throws up a few stinkers the team is distracted because of the photoshoot with the President.

How about we put this topic on the shelf until the off-season. Because when their season ends I'm sure we will hear either way from people inside the room themselves like what happened with the Sox.

Apparently the Rangers game got trounced in the NY ratings by the Knicks who were playing at the same time against Boston on ABC.

QUOTE
the Rangers – first place in the Eastern Conference by a mile, with charismatic star players getting better and better – were absolutely trounced by the Knicks – a mediocre, patchwork bunch whose only draw is Jeremy Lin – in New York by a count of 9.6 for Knicks/Celtics on ABC to 1.9 for Bruins/Rangers on NBC. The only good news to take out of this: A 1.9 is a very solid number for New York as far as hockey goes. But, if you’re a New York fan with allegiances to both teams, you should be more than a little ashamed of yourself for rewarding mediocrity.

Stupid NY people.
