My husband said they should just ban his ass for life and then make the NHLPA look stupid when they try to defend him.

I'm definitely waiting for this game to end before I LOLZ.

In the meantime, Pekka Rinne has been nothing less than amazing. I'd rank him ahead of Henke right now in the very early trophy race.

LOLZ

Zach Parise was just interviewed postgame. He was asked how to change this (getting into penalty trouble) and his response started, "When we play the right way..." Play the right way? Uhh, isn't that from the Rangers playbook? /thingsthatmakeyougohmmm

So did I. Detroit's about to go down 3 games to 1. As much as I like my 2nd team, Detroit, they are getting outplayed in all areas of the game. Especially in goal. As competitive as they are, as good as they are fundamentally, age and wear have caught up to Detroit. sad.gif Feh.

Uhhhhhhh...Nashville beat Anaheim last year in the first round for their first-ever series win. Dur. And, while I do like Detroit a lot, if they were going to lose to anyone in the West, I'm glad it's Nashville because I really dig the Preds too. If Vancouver falls, I can absolutely see Nashville go to the Finals this year.

Think about it: The two favorite teams to go the Finals this year could be bounced in the first round. That means the Stanley Cup is going to be up for grabs moreso than any other year in a long time. Go get it, Rangers.

Oh, good news, the NHL Network is already covering this as "players don't respect each other."

Meanwhile the refs won't even be able to be questioned on how 8 eyes on the ice failed to see that and properly penalize it and the NHL probably won't admit any failure on the refs part.

And hey, guess who's reffing the game. Why it's the same two guys as the Rangers/Sens game on Saturday! Shocking result. Watch them move on to the next round too.

The joke of this is they're senior refs and they can't even control a game. This is really getting disgraceful at this point, which is just a darn shame. The NHL will never have a better chance to showcase their product than right now. The NBA, which should be having their playoffs right now are in the final boring weeks of their regular season.

The NHL, for the first time since the 1990's are getting front page attention on a lot of websites. And we have to deal with all of this. Ultimately, the NHL probably enjoys this.

Ratings for the Pens/Flyers game were 50% higher than the Caps/Rangers Game 3 last year. It was the highest rated non-Stanley Cup final game in 9 years.

But in their attempt to get new fans, they're royally pissing off the current base. I personally don't know a single true hockey fan that's happy with what is going on.

It should be more for both players, but since the league openly supports the notion a suspension is based on an injury, I'm not surprised.

Neal attempted to injure, not one, but two star Flyer players within a 2 minute span in the game. You would think the league wouldn't want superstar players to be targeted, but hey, I guess it's all good according to the league.

Then you have Asham, a repeat offender mind you, take his stick and attempt to crosscheck Schenn in his face or throat, and he gets one more game than Hagelin, who hadn't been guilty of more than a 2 minute minor in his career. But since Schenn is still walking, it means Asham just gets 4.

If only the American legal system were like this. Well, hey, you tried to go and kill your neighbor with a pistol, but since your shot only glanced off his arm, we are going to lower the charge to misdemeanor assault and battery.

Asham essentially did what Chris Simon did. Except Simon used a two-hand chop. Simon got 25 games. Maybe if Asham had been more creative and done it golf swing style, he would've gotten an appropriate penalty. Neal took out 1 player and tried to take out another within a few minutes. One game.

F#ck this league.

What's the problems with the suspensions now? All this referee/league complaining is crazy. Hagelin elbowed Alfredson in the head and deserved to be suspended. 3 based on what came before him? No, seemed heavy at the time. 3 based on what came after him? Seems about right. Asham actually didn't even x-check the Flyer in the face, he got him in the high chest.

Neal's play I didn't see.

The issue that I have is that you cant look at the Neal shift and say he was trying to do anything but injure people. I get that injuries need to factor into the suspension, but when intent is as clear as the sky is blue then that should be enough to carry the day.

He should've gotten 3.

You're joking right? So you're telling me the majority of hockey fans are enjoying the fact we're going to likely have more than 10 suspensions in a single round of the postseason? Hockey fans like the fact the game is turning into a game of oneupsmanship of dirty illegal hits?

There doesn't seem to be many happy people here at all? The hosts I listen to on NHL Radio are pissed and almost every caller on there is bemoaning the fact at how dirty the game has become. The people I know in the New York, Philly, Pittsburgh and D.C. areas are all disgusted right now with what's going on with the head shots and overall disturbing lack of quality officiating and the inconsistency of the suspensions.

If you want to tell me the fans love the intensity? Fine. That fans liked the fact Crosby and Giroux dropped the gloves? Totally agree. But based on the several hundred opinions I've read, seen and listened to from hockey fans, I'd say about 90-95% of them are not happy with the dirty play going on. In fact, I might be under selling that. I don't think I've heard a single hockey fan support it.

The ones that are? Joe six pack who only watches hockey for violence, and scrums and will promptly change the channel when the game of hockey is actually played.

OK, NBCSN just said that Neal's one-game suspension was for the hit on Giroux. Apparently he's getting two separate rulings on two separate offenses.

Milbury and Roenick don't seem to get the idea that, from all appearances, there could be another ruling on Neal.

If fans should be unhappy about anything is that if it's happening to other teams it's only a matter of time before it happens to someone on YOUR team. I am scared shitless someone on the Rangers is going to get run.

Asham slammed Schenn in the checst with his stick between both his hands and rolled it (because Schenn was falling down) from Schenn's chest, up his neck, into his chin. And we all know that's just a tickle to a hockey player. Did you actually watch the video or just gazed at it once?

And I'd argue that a lot of the people that go to an NHL arena these days aren't even hockey fans because they're tickets that businesses own because the true hockey fans can't afford to go to games these days. After all, isn't that why so many people say the MSG isn't as loud as it once was?

Again, I'm not saying that hockey fans don't enjoy fights, brawls and hard hits. Hell, I was even hoping Crawford and Smith would drop the gloves at the end of the 2nd in the Chicago game.

But, I really don't know any real hockey fans that would be cheering and hoping that we can see a Clause Lemeiux type of hit that puts someone in the hospital. Because with what we are seeing right now league wide, it's a matter of time before some bonehead does that.

Ah that's right. And I'm sure that made hockey fans worldwide jump up with glee. In fact, here's hoping it can happen again in the 3rd period.

Seriously. Who the fuck cares? Pittsburgh is down 0-3. The Rangers are up 2-1. I fail to see the connection here.

You're absolutely right. Pittsburgh's on their way out and frankly, who gives a f#ck? The door won't hit their a$$es on the way out cuz Philthy will be slamming it in their faces. And once Philthy has served their purpose by icing the Ice Chickens, they can be next in line to get wasted. Everybody wins!

Right, it was a dirty play and he got 4 games. That's the longest suspension yet, I believe. What did you want, a lifetime banning? Public hanging?

And actually, I rewound the DVR four times right after it happened because Claudia and I were debating whether or not the stick did catch his face. But that was a cute thing you said there.

Eh, I think Neil should have gotten 3. I understand how Shannahan bases the punishment on injury (which I think isn't the smartest thing) but Neal went headhunting twice on the same shift. No intent other than to injure. That's worth 3 to me.

More utter bulls*t.

Backstrom gets 1 game. His crosscheck was frankly WORSE than Asham's, and he gets one game.

When it comes to the Matt Carkner's of the world, they are being given notice by the NHL that they can pretty much do anything they want to an opponent as long as it doesn't lead to a concussion.

Um, agree to disagree. Backstrom went for the chest, and his stick either rode up or pushed the other guy's stick into his face, in my viewings. A game works.

Always good debating with you, Lisa!

The major problem I see is that Hagelin, a player with no discipline history, no reputation of violent infractions, and a player that rarely even commits a stick foul, gets 3 games while players WITH violent discipline histories get less. Arron Asham, multiple suspentions, gets only one more. There's no consistency to the suspentions other than if there was an injury sustained.

Do you really believe that Neal doesnt deserve more than 1 game simply because he got lucky that his xcheck didn't connect with Schenn's throat first? A high xcheck is an attempt to injure whether there is an injury or not.

It's all good. The hockey fans loved that stick going into Peverly's face anyway. In fact, they were disappointed his jaw didn't break as he fell down on the ice face down in a puddle of blood. The league and players will try to appease hockey fans next time.
