Doesn't hurt the Panthers to get someone who can score. Definitely helps the Rangers get rid of Wolski.

Rangers also acquire D Mike Vernace along with the 3rd round pick. Any background on this guy?

I'm sure the extra 3rd rounder will be flipped in a deal before the deadline.

Wolski is going to be a great fit in Florida's skybox sitting next to the GM who is trying fruitlessly to trade him.

Meh no biggie for them to take a chance on him. If he sucks he's an FA this summer.

eta-Not sure why there's any bitterness towards him. You do remember we managed to dump Roszival's even worse contract in exchange for him?

So does this mean Wolski Ranger jerseys will be really cheap? My mom's side of the family are Wolski, so it'd be cool to get a jersey for one of them.

He couldn't trade him after Monday and if Wolski does end up in the press seats then worst case scenario he does not even get an offer sheet.

The Panthers are not big up front for scoring and at least Wolski gives them that big frame with a set of skills. Dineen has a strict system but he allows a lot of creativity to be used on offense, which sometimes frustrates the hell out of me as Fleischmann does way too many extra passes. They are pretty, but cause turnovers. We'll see what Wolski does. It's a no lose situation for the Panthers unless that 3rd rounder becomes a solid NHL regular.

In the past twenty years, the Rangers have turned their third-round picks into:

Dominic Moore
Eric Cairns

So this is a good trade for the Rangers because ... um ... well ... look, it was getting awkward for the other guys having to keep telling Woggie to keep his head up and wait for another shot. Because, come on, let's not kid ourselves.

And this is a good trade for Florida because ... hey look, it's Scott Mellanby! *runs away*

I think we are happy because most of us figured Wolski had no value at all. So yes, our 3rd round draft pick history may not be stellar. But that doesn't mean we turn down getting a 3rd round pick and never select in that round again.

QUOTE("Brooks")
The Rangers are attempting to move Wojtek Wolski, who has played three games since coming off injured reserve on Jan. 6. Doing so perhaps even through waivers if there are no deadline takers for the winger with the $3.8 million full-season cap charge would free an additional $860,000 of space.

So what I said a few weeks ago was correct. The Rangers get the prorated amount in return, not 3.8 mllion in space by todays trade.

I thought from the threads here I saw a few weeks ago the team had more cap room now than when the season started and thus had room to make moves. what was the reason for that?

I hope this was the prelude to another move because the Rangers forward depth is extremely slim and Wolski could've come in handy in a long playoff run. If you're gonna get more forwards, fine. If not, they're one forward injury away from who playing? Zuccarello? Newbury? Zzz. (i like Zuc, I'm just not sure how effective he'd be on this team right now)

Just to clarify this a little because it can be a bit misleading/confusing, this does not mean that the Rangers can sign someone to a 10 million contract right this second. It means that they can take a contract that had up to a 10 million dollar cap hit at the start of the season.
i.e. - Nash's cap hit is 7.8 million or something like that, at the start of the season. So they can add his contract now because they have that much space from their current prorated contracts.

Thanks to the @nyrangers for the opportunity the last 2 seasons. Sad to leave nyc but very excited about playing for the Florida Panthers

Yet a good portion of fans hated him and at the same time worship Sean Avery, who acts like a selfish fucking brat every time things don't go his way.

I swear, Ranger fans are both the best and worst fans of any team in NY.

I don't know if it was discussed here, but the rangers were talking about reclaiming Avery by noon today to do him a favor. Did this happen?

If he wasn't, he can't play for the rest of the season, or in the playoffs in the NHL.

Really? Worse than say, Toronto or Montreal or Vancouver fans? Worse than Pittsburgh or Philadelphia fans? Really?

Good thing all of those places are in NY.

I do dispute your point, Pete. I think that for the most part fans didn't have a problem with him. We got him for someone fans REALLY hated, and I don't think there was any ever ill will towards Wolski. More apathy than anything.

I didn't say that.

Yes, most fans didn't have a problem with him, but Avery fans did. They constantly went after Christensen and Wolski as undeserving of the right to sit in the press box instead of Avery!

Here are quotes from yesterday's Post article on Avery before Wolski was traded. Why bring up Wolski at all? 'Cuz that's what they've been doing all season. "Waah Christensen! Waaah Wolski!" Yet those two guys played about 15 games BETWEEN them, sat in the press box all season and were shipped out ASAP. Talk about favoritism shown by Torts! emot-jerkbag.gif

Wolski is a bum...The Rangers haven't looked good in weeks....They blew it with Avery..Hopefully they can make a move to spark this team...

At least have him in the press box instead of stupid Wolski. At least Avery did SOMETHING in his tenure in NY. Wolski is a bum and a waste of a good "Healthy Scratch" postition!

Peter Michael Emerson College
Rebel Son Rise agreed; hey slats, how many wolski jerseys did u sell vs. Avery? even from a biz standpoint it makes no sense...

Ahh, I got you. I thought you saying fans hated him and loved Avery as two separate things, not as one group of fans.

Edit: Man, since this is the only hockey forum I'm a part of I tend to forget about the cult of Avery. I mean, I ignore the comments on Puck Daddy and other places like that, so I really don't get the full dose of Avery madness. I forgot how bad it was.

How people could side with Avery over our Jack Adams Caliber coach is literally beyond me.

Ugh. Ranger fans are just the absolute worst. Not violent, but just the worst.. Those are the people that call Mike Francesa to talk about hockey. I'll hang up and listen..
