Anyone watch game 2 last night? Caught the first period, but of course missed the incredible third by the Stars. Gary's small market dreamboat of a Penguins/Sharks final is sinking.

I have no idea what the Sharks are doing wrong. In a way, Thornton looks invisible out there too. He is not being a dominating player. I just don't get it.

Nabokov also got pulled last night, with about 3 minutes left...the guys on XM said it was to give the Sharks another rest, since they had already used their time out. Still, pretty weird.

They have been every year since even before the lockout I think. I know they've been the team I've picked pretty much the last 3. And they never cease to disappoint.

Is there a bigger choke team in recent memory then the Sharks? You can NEVER take them seriously.

Yes, what chokers, losing to a #1 seed and two conference champions in the last three years. Chumps.

Wait, we’re previewing the results of the upcoming season? Fuck. How should I know that, anyway? I follow the Rangers. Is Joe Thornton still on the team? OK, then I predict a division championship and a 2nd round exit. See? That was easy. Honestly, what have they really changed?

Without Marleau, Sharks would have lost round 1, no doubt. Marleau is not a huge scorer, but he knows when to come up big. I still remember that play against the Flames when they were down a goal and Phaneuf decked Marleau along the boards. So hard that he was bleeding. Next shift, he had a great chance but missed it wide. He was so friggin angry that he started to be the scariest player on the ice whenever he had the puck. Eventually, he got his team to win.

That's my problem with Thornton. He doesn't have that desire to be so dominant. I mean, in his prime.... Lindros may go without a point in a game, but he'd be a difference maker anyway with his play. Thornton on the other hand, no points.... he's just an average player. He's a great regular season player, but come playoffs time....he may put up points, but meaningless ones if he doesn't push the team to win.

2nd year in a row there's a controversy in the 2nd round and a game's outcome was changed b/c of this stupid "distinct kicking motion" rule.

Once again, for some reason, there seems to be time when it's okay to have the puck go off your skate when you're stopping in front of the crease, and then other times it seems like it's not okay (last night).

Why do we even have this rule to begin with? Who cares if it's kicked. Just call the damn thing a goal.

First off, that rule exists because if you allow guys to kick at the puck, incidents like Malarchuk's and Zednik's could happen. It just brings too much potential for danger. If you can put your skate on it, you should be able to put your stick on it.

That being said, what a bullshit call. He was going hard to the net and his feet were in the same position before and after the puck hit his skate. His momentum carried him that way and allowed the puck to deflect in off of his skate. The NHL has been inconsistent about this forever, and it needs to fucking stop. Remember last year when Rachunek's goal was disallowed in a very similar situation yet in the next round Daniel Alfredsson's goal, which was clearly a kick, was allowed? This league is a god damn joke.

I think he swiped it with his foot on purpose. He saw the puck going towards him and the back leg timed itself very well to drag in like that. Still, i would have counted it because it was not a kicking motion.

I think you're giving way too much credit to a player who's crashing the net with a player on top of him and trying to avoid running into the goalie and getting a goalie interference call by saying that as he was stopping, and not even looking at where the puck was, he somehow magically knew where the puck was going and timed it so that his act of stopping would intersect with the puck at the exact perfect time and have it get knocked into the goal, but not be a kick.

Please. You're over analyzing a very simple play.

He was trying to stop + He wasn't looking at the puck + His foot did nothing that you wouldn't ordinarily see when a player stops = Goal

I know you're saying that you would count it anyway, but I think your belief that he swiped it with his foot on purposes is ridiculous.

Yeah, I mean I totally get that and understand that. And I know that in this case the risk totally outweighs the reward of actually having certainty in these situations. But like you said, it's so damn annoying that this is such a god damn grey area. It's as if they just flip a coin.

I know that there would be potential for severe injury. But how probable would it be? How many times are guys lying around in the crease with their necks/arms exposed? The only times you see that is when they're trying to cover the puck, and I guess I'm just assuming that players would find it much easier to try and get the puck from them by whacking them with their stick than trying to kick them.

I just don't think the likelihood of that type of injury occurring would be very great.

The probability of that happening isn't very great, but why risk something like that? It's not worth it. The rule they have now IN THEORY is good; it's just the NHL officiating is so inept and inconsistent that it isn't working.

Whats even more pathetic, is that the Morrow goal was disallowed, and yet today in the Flyers/Habs game, Kovalev clearly was purposely redirecting the puck into the net with his skate and the goal was allowed without even a review.

One day you have a guy in the act of stopping and the puck happens to bounce off his skate and you get no goal.

The next day you get a guy clearly redirecting the puck in the net with his skate and you don't even get a review.

This league is really pathetic sometimes. How you can blame people for not watching and relegating it to the 3rd tier sports status.

Retarded.

Similar to Lundqvist's stop on Marc Savard from earlier this season, except like a gazillion times better, given that Richards got everything on it, and what was at stake.

I stayed up and I am paying for it today! Only good thing about the Sharks being knocked out is no more 10:30PM start times.

So cheesy that the game ended on a power play goal. I thought after Nabakov made that superman save off of Richards in the first OT that the Sharks would win.

I really dislike every team that is left in the playoffs but of all of them I dislike the Stars least so GO STARS. (I'm so sick of the Wings). The thought of the Flyers or Pens winning the cup makes me get that vomit taste in my mouth.

I wouldn't be surprised. The proverbial grass is always greener...

indeed. this is why I'm against going and signing a shitload of UFAs. Play the yutes and call it done. I'm tired of being disappointed with oldsters not having enough and not changing their game to win. Cally, Pru, Dawes those guys seem to fly because they're young and don't "know better" than to go all out. Play the farm and maybe, instead of dumping/trading (why did we ditch Umberger?) the youth, we might find some killer players under our own roof.

fuck the stars. I'm against Cup hogs, like De-twat, but I have to take them over Dallas who wins on such lame assed stuff. Hull's Cup goal is a debt that team owes to the world. They can suck a shit sammich for that alone for eternity.

At least one of the teams I like to watch made it to the next round. calvin.gif GO STARS!

yeesh. another Modano fan. rolleyes.gif
The stars are the only Texas team that I can't stand. Hate their front-runner fans. When we finally got a win in Dallas a couple of years ago, it was some tasty justice. Sore losers skulking around the AAC... Ahh, good times.
Fuck the stars.

Um, it's got nothing to do with Modano. Thanks for assuming.

So did any of you all stay up and watch?

I forgot the game was even on. So I suck more than those of you who went to bed.

I fell asleep after the first OT, and woke up right as the 4th OT started. It was kinda weird coming out of a deep sleep late at night and a hockey game still going on.
