Cooper is just all about business. I don't think he has beliefs outside making money.

Cooper is a racist/sexist old asshole. So, yeah, there's that. Maybe I'm forgetting some major key points here, but I've never pictured Cooper as anything other than an eccentric whose smarter than he lets on. Cooper more often than not is the voice of reason. We've actually seen him fight racism when Sterling was against going after Honda simply because it was a Japanese company. The only thing of any kind of sexual nature I ever remember Bert being a part of was the rumors he had a love affair with Don's old secretary that died at her desk, and apparently he has no testicles so we've never seen him womanizing like the rest of them. I'm more than willing to admit I'm forgetting some key line or something, but if actually in that office during the fight instead of watching a tv show, I can guarantee you my response would be more along the lines of Bert's than anyone else in that office. Cooper is just all about business. I don't think he has beliefs outside making money. Well then, you both missed it because in an episode from last season, he made remarks about civil rights movement as saying that it was communist and that giving "those people" or "coloreds" (I can't recall the exact wording) equal rights would ruin the country. I'm paraphrasing here, I'd have to go back and find the exact episode quote, but I didn't forget it. Completely changed my idea of him. He defends the Japanese people and culture here, then shat on rights for minorities in the U.S. He's an old hypocrite, like so many so-called "open-minded" people of that era. -------------------- QUOTE When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?' --Don Marquis (1878 - 1937) |

Pete is Broken.
He will never feel satisfied no matter what he gets. He's fighting mad about his dissatisfaction and his failure at being Don Draper Jr. Maybe he'll figure it out somehow before his adds to his own misery. Favorite Line: "I want to hit the doorbell with my chin" |

I totally missed the Don judging thing. I saw it as more of the other guys just expecting Don to join in and when he didn't, they were surprised and their own guilt and self-consciousness kicked in.
What did don say or do? He even admitted to the madam that he had been in nastier places than that place and he has admitted that he's had a torrid history. If we were all together at a party and you guys/gals starting passing the ganja and I pass...and I judging? How does Don's inaction make him judgmental? Finally got to watch last night. The name of the episode was Signal 30. Before it started, I said to my wife, "ha - that was the name of one of those 'everyone through the windshield' flicks that we had to watch in driver's ed." Sure enough, it was the first film that Pete was watching.
Keep in mind, that was 1966; I was watching it in 1990. If my school still did driver's ed (mine was the last class to get it), I'm sure they'd STILL be showing it. -------------------- |

Don have Pete a look when he went to the back, and then after telling me Pete he wasn't judging him in the cab, he went on to lecture him, so his inner thoughts were quite clear about what he thought he was doing. He absolutely WAS passing judgement on Pete. He of all people should keep their mouth shut in situations like that. He also was dead wrong about Pete. Pete asked if roger was given stern looks and don defended roger saying he was miserable and thought Pete wasn't, we all know don was dead wrong and basing his thoughts on absolute conjecture. |

Don didn't lecture Pete, he answered a direct question from Pete. Don just explained why he didn't go to the back. I just saw it as that. I must've missed it. I wasn't like Don was moping at the bar or was short with everyone in the cab. He didn't even say anything until Pete pressed him.
Does Don perhaps feel better knowing he has a solid relationship and that he realizes that he has no need to cheat...sure. Does that make him judgmental? Nah. -------------------- ![]() |

OK I'm not going to nit pick dialog anymore and I think we should just agree to disagree. After all, we can't get into the writer's heads
Could one say that Don was just surprised at Pete's actions? You said it yourself, Don thought Pete had it all. I don't think that it's a leap to think that Don thinks Don has it all. Don thinks Don has it all, so he doesn't cheat. Anymore  Don thinks Pete has it all and is surprised to see a guy who has it all walking off with a prostitute... Still thinks he's judging? As for the argument in the cab, well, that all goes to Don thinking Pete has it all...and the surprise. -------------------- ![]() |

Don may have banged anything that he wanted when he was married to whatshername. But he never paid a prostitute from what I can recall. Maybe considering his childhood, that is something he finds offensive?

He fucked a prostitute on Thanksgiving last season. Remember the one that slapped him around?
Granted, he wasn't married at the time. |

Uh oh. Foreshadowing an unexpected accident?
The creepy thing about that elevator scene? A friend of mine was let go from his job--and I had a dream like that that night about my job. Where people I knew (and liked) were falling down into an empty elevator shaft. That scene gave me a chill. -------------------- QUOTE When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?' --Don Marquis (1878 - 1937) |

He jumped into marrying megan without looking so to speak. If he stepped in the shaft without looking he would have fell. It also stopped him from following her, I think thats why he called for the elevator in the first place. Him turning h Beatles off and going to bed speaks volumes... |

It might be the cynic in me, but I also tend to think Joan is right. She's either leaving or becoming Betty. Don coming home to her cooking could be a sign, and we all know how don feels about that.
I'm still convinced by the end of the season don and Betty get it on, possibly after a stressful evening of having to find Sally after she runs away or something and the two of them have one of those crazy heated out if nowhere deals mad men throws at us. |

I think it's simply a sign of the times. Women just beginning to show their independence. Wanting more than what is being handed to them on a silver platter. Note Pete's complaint about his conquest, Peggy telling Don to shut up, Harry complaining about his wife. The men are losing the control they've wielded for forever. It's as confusing as "Tomorrow Never Knows" Joan's complaint to Peggy, similarly commiserating as when Don announced the engagement at the end of last season...to me is a lament about why Don chooses the cupcakes and not them. Don wants a trophy wife and it will never work! But YES....I can definitely see Betty and Don knockin boots again, I always thought they were perfect for each other in a twisted way. Megan is too good for him. She's going to try and do it all. And half control is not enough for most men back in the day. Hell...even now that rears its ugly head. |

When I see Don and Megan's apartment, the theme from "The Dick Van Dyke" show goes off in my head. I'm mildly disappointed each time Don enters the apartment and doesn't trip over the ottoman.

"...Now, they wanna sell it to...people like me." "They want it cheap..." "SURPRISE" "...and they want it impactful" "How Jewish are we talking? Fiddler On The Roof - cast or audience?" That was absolutely classic!!!!! I think I've come to hate Ginsberg more that Peter these days. -------------------- "Good people drink good beer."— Hunter S. Thompson |

Sally's got some snarl. I like it. You realize she's 12, right? Just because she knows how to fellate now, it's still statutory rape. I'd try to find someone your own age, kid. -------------------- "Good people drink good beer."— Hunter S. Thompson |

Obviously I meant character wise. Her and Betty have been the best two characters this season by far. -------------------- |

I actually zone out during her scenes. |

Hate. Ginsberg? Are we watching the same show?
I've been avoiding this thread because I've been tivo-ing the shows and then saving them to watch with the main squeeze, but now it's very complicated because maybe he's not my main squeeze anymore so DO I SAVE THEM FOR HIM OR NOT???? and so. I'm not all caught up as of twenty minutes ago and I'll go back to avoiding. -------------------- |

Lane Pryce is such a tragedy. Also: Don's face at the play. It went over my head, why is Lane in financial trouble? I don't know if it was given, but its probably due to him being a habitual liar and a thief. -------------------- |
