For Christmas I got a USB turntable with speakers, so I can listen to Journey's "Departure" just as Jesus intended.

I grew up listening to Springsteen on my dad's vinyl so when I hear Thunder Road without the cracks and pops, it just does not sound right. Luckily I have a turntable and bought the whole Springsteen catalog (up to The River) for a buck each so they sound perfect now.

Do you listen to records through your computer or do you have a receiver with a phono preamp that you hook the turntable up to?

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

Lots of Sufjan Stevens ... pretty much all of Seven Swans, Welcome to Michigan, and Come on Feel the Illinoise. His current project is to write and record an album about each of the 50 states. So far he has Michigan and Illinois done. It is really great stuff.

This is great - John Frusciante typically does a solo cover song during the RHCP concerts and this one always blows me away - he covers Simon and Garfunkels "For Emily" beautifully.

I'm verging on another major Queen kick. (My favorite band.) We just moved and I finally have my turntable set up properly so I'm building up my vinyl collection again. My poor wife. I'm still on the fence on whether or not I want to pick up their new album, though.

Also, I got a couple of newer Black '47 albums for Christmas (New York Town and Iraq) that I'm finally breaking out.

"13 Blues for Thirteen Moons" by Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band. (No, seriously.) They're a Godspeed You Black Emperor spin off and the first two songs on this album (tracks 13 and 14 -- figure that out) are phenominal. The second half of the album is a bit of a let down after those opening tracks but they're each around 15 minutes long so there's a good 30 minutes of excellent music here.

A couple of other reviews:

Andrew Bird -- Noble Beast. Armchair Apocrypha set the bar pretty high so it's not surprising that Bird comes down to earth a little with his next album. Which is not to say this is a bad album as all because it's not. There's not a bad song on the album. But neither is it particularly brilliant the way Armchair Aprocrypha was. It's a pleasant diversion but it will be quickly forgotten.

Bruce Springsteen -- Working on A Dream. Again, nothing mind blowing here. The first track is kind of bad but also catchy. (I'm ashamed to admit it's growing on me.) The rest of the album is fine but there's nothing really memorable here either.

Franz Ferdinand -- Tonight. I never really got into their first two albums for some reason. I like a few of the songs but the albums left me a little cold. Maybe it's just the mood I'm in this week but Tonight has really grabbed me in a way their past albums haven't. There are a couple of dull spots but they're almost entirely surrounded by standout tracks so overall it's a win.

Awesome album! Anything from Shinedown rules.

Picked up Bullet for My Valentine's 2 CDs after Christmas. Haven't been able to stop listening to them. Killer music!

lol...yeah I sometimes think the same thing about Story of the Year! My sister got me into them 4 years ago. I freaking love them and I don't think she's that into them anymore.

But Shinedown seriously? I don't know if I have ever heard a bad song from them. They are just so musically sound. They sound a lot like Soundgarden and sometimes Alice in Chains, but much better in my opinion. And they have a more metal feel to them. "Crying Out" is the best song ever and was my text message sound for the longest time. Now it's the Ranger Goal song, although if they don't shape up soon, I'm gonna change it back!!

Quite a few Rangerlanders were at that show, including myself.

Thing that amazes me about Maiden is that they sound better live now, then they did back on the Powerslave tour, when they were in their prime!

They are just an amazing band. My favorite of all time, behind KISS!

They did sound incredible at that show, especially Bruce. Contrast that with Halford when I saw Priest in August, although Dio still killed that night.

Yeah, Bruce's voice just keeps getting better. The notes he hits in concert now, he never hit during the 80's.

Not a huge fan of Dio. But nice to know he still sounds good. Surprised about Halford though.
