THAT is the exact reason why he got 3 games. Alfredsson got a concussion and could very well be out for the rest of the series.

Because Schenn came back in the game, I'd guess Asham gets a fine.
Also, if Giroux and Cotourier are ok, Neal won't get anything.

Honestly? For that kind of hit, I was anticipating at least two games. Intent or not, it was a very careless hit. But three is extreme, and I think it's clear it's based on the fact his hit caused an injury.

Ultimately, it's just more proof that the league officiating is in absolute shambles right now. If they come down on EVERYONE in the past 48 hours as hard as they came down on Hagelin, I can live with Carl's suspension. They need to regain control. But I fear, he may in fact have the longest suspension of everyone, which would be an absolute travesty.

Guys like Carkner and Asham should be gone for at least 15 games. Neal SHOULD be gone for 7 games, so he either sits to start next year, or misses a series worth of games. Hell, Crosby SHOULD be suspended at least a game because he was responsible for at least two if not three large scale brawls due to his immaturity and downright disrespectful play.

I agree that based on the punishment to Weber, this 3 game suspension is ridiculous.

But the Weber incident came before all hell broke lose in multiple series. If Hagelin is just the first of many to get punished, then fine. His hit was high, and he needs to be more careful. Hits like that need to stop.

If Asham doesn't get at least 3 games, Carkner at least 4-5, etc, then that's when I'll be pissed. I'm willing to give Shanny the benefit of the doubt for now, but I'm expecting to be let down.

Hagelin got three games????

If Shanahan now demonstrates some consistency in dealing w/the multiple other offenders this weekend and sends a message to the players I'm ok w/Hagelin's 3 game suspension. That's what he should get for targeting his head. Forget past history , forget whether the player is injured or not . There should be no variables. You target a player's head you're going to get a X game suspension. Shea Weber should've gotten 3-5 games for that bullshit he pulled. Shanahan fucked that up and I think it had something to do w/the crap that went on this weekend.
Carkner should get 3-5 for his planned assault on Boyle. We'll see but in a vacuum I have no problem w/Hagelin's 3 games.

If no one else gets a meaningful suspension, I guess we should just adapt to today's NHL.

I mean if we're going to dirty up the league and have no reprucussion, we might as well do it right. right? Let's just dress Scott and only have him take the ice when Jason Spezza is out there. The direct order is to make sure Spezza is taken out on a stretcher.

I mean, that's the kind of playing style the NHL apparently endorses right now correct?

That way the NHL can advertise a conference final featuring Brandon Prust and Chris Kelly when every single impact player on both teams are in an ICU after they've been leveled out of the game with cheap shots over the next 5-12 games.

Wow. I thought one game, two max, but many of us have said for awhile that suspensions are based off results and not actions is ridiculous. Shanahan legit said Weber didnt get suspended because the punch didnt land. HE STILL TRIED TO PUNCH HIM before slamming his head into the glass like it was a turnbuckle. Fuck this shit. I hope after how they went after Boyle, the fire Dubinsky will be playing with the rest of this series and now this suspension the team rallies behind it.

Anisimov-Richards-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Stepan-Callahan
Kreider-Boyle-Fedotenko
Rupp-Mitchell-Prust

If I were Torts I'd be tempted to try the Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan line again with the way the three of them have played lately. But I think Anisimov or Fedotenko have earned the top line spot for Game 3.

Don't be ridiculous. No coach ever gives orders, or any good coach, to go out and fight or go out and injure someone. Unless you're in the NFL. Quick way to lose a lockerroom like that. And don't be dramatic with the stretcher thing.

The point here is the team needs to funnel their emotions into a useful game plan for Game 3 and the rest of the series. I certainly hope the coaching staff and the players arent getting so emotional that they forget what the goal of the playoffs is in place of gooning shit up.

Whether or no Schenn came back SHOULDN'T MATTER. Asham was given a match penalty, which means he referees deemed there was AN INTENT TO INJURE. If Asham isn't given any loss of time, it's a complete and utter farce.

Obviously, I'm being a bit melodramatic on purpose, but at the same time, is it really that out of line to say stuff like that. I think your naiive if the Sens coach did not let Carkner know in some subtle way that his mission was to inflict pain on Brian Boyle or some form or fashion.

It's not like he just had it in his own head to have some premeditated attack on Boyle. Those were team orders. Now did he tell him to go that far? Perhaps not. But c'mon now.

And the stretcher thing. While I doubt the coaches said anything of the sort, the kind of move Asham did today was to put Schenn out of commission. Same with the hit Neil laid out on Cotourier. Or when the Shark went after MacDonald with an attempted blow to the head so viscous, it cracked his helmet.

It's the dirtiest run of hockey I've ever seen in my life. These are also all moves that SHOULD get much more than the 3 games Hagelin got.

Carl Hagelin: Three games for playing hockey.

Matt Carkner: One game for aggravated assault.

OK, let me get this straight. Carkner was dressed to come in and attack one of our players. Comes in and just starts beating on him immediately, not even trying to play hockey.

Honestly, what could the NHL do to prevent the Rangers from dressing some dumbass like John Scott, sending him after Karlsson, and beating him senseless? Suspend Scott for however many games? Just like losing Carkner is a moot point for Sens, same deal for Rangers. You can dress a hitman and there's no penalty.

If you want to do something, suspend MacLean or fine the team a huge amount of money or draft picks. Only way to actually police the league.

ONE GAME FOR CARKNER!!!!!

/vomits uncontrollably

Absolutely unbelievable.

This 2012 postseason is seriously harming my love of hockey. I feel so saddened and let down that the NHL seemingly endorses the type of hockey played in the movie Slap Shot.

Like I said, let's just dress Scott and give him the orders to injure. It's apparently less offensive in the league's eyes than what Hagelin did.

Or more specifically there is only one reason a player like Carkner is playing. He knows it, his coach knows it, we ALL know it.

Damm!!! I wont be able to wear my Shanahan shirt for games at MSG. I was expecting 1 maybe 2, but not 3. Time for guys like Stepan, Dubinsky and Anisimov to get their scoring hands going. And wait to go for probably Kreider to step up to this kettle. I wouldn't want to be in that kid's skates. Tough, tough spot. The players need to harness all this energy into focusing at the task at hand.

The Carkner video is enraging.

Go watch it.

But do it in a room full of things that aren't valuable to you.

Because you will break them all.

Don't be ridiculous. No coach ever gives orders, or any good coach, to go out and fight or go out and injure someone. Unless you're in the NFL. Quick way to lose a lockerroom like that. And don't be dramatic with the stretcher thing.

The point here is the team needs to funnel their emotions into a useful game plan for Game 3 and the rest of the series. I certainly hope the coaching staff and the players arent getting so emotional that they forget what the goal of the playoffs is in place of gooning shit up.

No, I 100% believe that MacLean or any other hockey coach has to hint or tell a player to fight. Matt Carkner did not play in Game 1. He saw Karlsson get roughed up. He was then inserted into the lineup for Game 2. He knows his style of hockey. Paul MacLean knows his style of hockey. Matt Carkner knew what he had to do without being told. I would agree with you if you wanted to blame MaClean for adding goons to his lineup knowing what the result would be, but I would be floored if he actually went over to Carkner and hinted at jumping Boyle.

I guess the league doesn't want fighting out of the game.
