Taking every factor into consideration(contracts, assets given up in a trade, style of play etc) who would you rather have the Rangers target in the off-season?

But there will likely be a bidding war for Parise, so it is probably going to be a larger cap hit to sign him than what Nash has. So either way, we'd have to get rid of players. Maybe we can still convince Colombus to take Dumbinsky. This post has been edited by Knight of Dight: Apr 22 2012, 01:28 PM -------------------- |

How much do you think Parise will get? He's not topping Gaborik money. Keeping our current roster, adding Parise at 7 per and giving a slight raise to Del Zotto we still have 1.5-2 million in cap space.
Isnt the rumor that Parise wants to play in Minnesota? -------------------- "I think Greatone is one more JKman talent evaluation or 101 trade proposal away from going on a killing spree."

Honestly?
I would be fine if they just tried to improve their secondary scoring. I don't necessairly thing another superstar is what we need. We need guys who have had proven success playing important secondary roles. Guys like Steve Sullivan, Jiri Hulder, Mikael Samuelsson etc. Also, if P.A. Parenteau were available, I'd go for him. He could be a very very useful player on this team. We need a lot of money to keep guys like MDZ, Mc D and other defensive players in the next few years. --The other thing though I'd consider is dealing for the No. 1 pick. Though Del Zotto has improved, I wouldn't feel bad packaging him in a deal if it meant drafting a potential franchise forward. -------------------- |

I vote Nash, only because I think it's a GOOD thing that it will take a trade to get him - In my ideal unicorns-and-rainbows fantasy deal, one or both of Dubi and Anisimov, plus the first rounder, a second next year, and a non-Kreider prospect goes to CLB.
This series has really pissed me off. I know I was very much into keeping the core together last year, but I'm starting to think that a nerve-rattling shakeup might be in order to get some guys out of their comfort zones. Why not get both? The team has enough cap room, especially if a deal with CLB involves Dubi going the other way. |

Dubinsky, Del Zotto, and a 1st and 2nd.
DZ is a big, big reason why our PP sucks so bad. He has no hockey sense and can't hold the blue line to save his life. -------------------- |

Holding the blue line is something that can be improved (I remember Leetch and Zubov having issues with this their first 2-3 seasons too, FWIW). As far as hockey sense, or lack thereof - that's harder to quantify. Personally I'd prefer he just shoot more. The PP sucks because NO ONE WANTS TO, or can, SKATE, and because it lacks a real bone/shin guard shattering point shot. |

Man, talk about overreactions. Anismov! Del Zotto! Picks everywhere! Mikael Samuelsson is the solution!
Andy, I dont think we'd have enough cap room for both Nash and Parise. And it wouldnt make sense even if they could. Kreider needs to be in the top-6. -------------------- "I think Greatone is one more JKman talent evaluation or 101 trade proposal away from going on a killing spree."

Yeah, you're probably right, especially in regards to Kreider. I'd just hate to see the "window" slam shut on this team so soon, so I suppose I want to see the team go all in. |

The rumored package the Rangers offered at the deadline wasn't even the offer that Columbus was considering accepting. So it seems unlikely that they would trade him to us in the off season for less.
I don't know what to make of the core right now. The wounds are too raw. Definitely need more goals. Down by a goal in the 3rd, other teams bring it. This team can't even hold the zone. -------------------- Devil take the hindmost.

Why not? The Rangers were the only serious suitor, and now, given all the bad blood, the BJs HAVE to trade Nash or reconcile (unlikely). It's a buyers market, and besides, teams are/were more desperate at the Deadline. Granted, Nash won't come cheap, but he won't come at the ludicrous price they wanted (and superstar trades rarely do, anyway). |

I do think we need to seriously consider using MDZ as a trade piece though. If not him, then Staal or Erixon.
1) I don't see how we can afford every one of these guys without having to seriously sacrifice our offense in the future. 2) We need offense bad right now and defense is a position of strength. -------------------- |

Because I think this is the perfect time to trade a d-man.
I'm not a salary cap expert. But I would think looking towards the future, you'd have to commit a serious amount of money to keep Girardi, McDongah, Staal and Del Zotto under contract, and that doesn't even consider Erixon and a 6th defenseman. From what I have seen, McDonagh has just as much offensive skill as Del Zotto. Maybe MDZ has a higher ceiling, but I think he has a bigger chance of not reaching his full potential. It's why I'd be more willing to give him up than some others. Staal I'd consider to because I think he has skills that can be replaced by others. To me, Staal looks like he'll be more of a Hal Gill than the more all around guy people hoped he would be. -------------------- |

What a difference a year makes. Wasn't Marc (arguably) our best player before being concussed? The phrase 'best defensive defenseman in hockey' ring any bells? Obviously he isn't the player he was right now, but that's still an awfully big towel to just throw in there. |

I dont think we are in a position where we must consider trading one of the D. If a deal comes along then you consider it. But there is no reason to go out and actively shop Del Zotto. Especially since he is our best offensive threat from the backend.

Again, I think all of the guys we have are talented. But with the needs we have on offense and how expensive all those guys will be, I think you got to use your position of strength to address weaknesses.
Am I really going on that big of a stretch that Girardi, Staal, McDonagh and Del Zotto could all cost between $4-6 million in the next 3-5 years? And that doesn't even factor in Erixon and his potential, nor McIlrath. -------------------- |

The only reason I'd consider moving him for a proper return is finding ample playing time for everyone, but if Torts is gonna keep DZ on the rightside then that solves that problem. Staal and Girardi are signed to reasonable contracts for a few more years, Del Zottos next deal wont break the bank and McDonagh will get a reasonable deal(RFA) in his next contract as well. We may have to break up the core of the D and make some tough choices eventually, but no reason to speed up to that bridge for no particular reason. -------------------- "I think Greatone is one more JKman talent evaluation or 101 trade proposal away from going on a killing spree."

And that doesn't even factor in Erixon and his potential, nor McIlrath. Why are we worried about 5 years from now? Our window will likely be closed by then anyway. Staal and Girardi are signed for below 4 million per 2-3 years, Del Zotto will get under 3 million for likely 2 years this off-season, McD will get under 4 in his next deal at his current play and Erixon is signed for 2 more years at under 2 million. I dont see the pressing need right now. Sign Parise and be done with it. -------------------- "I think Greatone is one more JKman talent evaluation or 101 trade proposal away from going on a killing spree."

Hmmmm...
http://www.torontosun.com/2012/05/10/nash-...ence-to-rangers QUOTE The Rangers look small up front, don't have enough net presence, and if it's not obvious now, it might be should they advance to the next round and play the New Jersey Devils. In their three losses in this series, they have scored all of four goals. With Rick Nash in Ranger colours, there would be no seventh game. This series would already be over. |

But how would we also replace Dubinsky's production? Can Nash hurl a gatorade cooler?

The Toronto Sun isn't even worth wrapping fish in. The only use it has is for the skanks they print in the paper every day.

This series would have been over if the PP was actually good.

I'd like them on the team too but I think the offense should be improved before a move on D is made. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone: make MDZ a forward. Michael Del Zotto will not be a forward. Because he skates backwards. -------------------- ![]() |
