This is my boldest idea since my Hip-Eponymous Society:
Let's have a ONE-TERM LIMIT for ALL Elected Offices. If You can't get Anything done in ONE Term, GET A REAL JOB!!! Discuss. -------------------- [attachment=7772:boehner_gavel.jpg] |

I have been in favor of term limits in the Capital for a long time. When fossils like Ted Kennedy were sitting for 2-centuries something isn't right.
I'm for keeping Presidents with a 4-year election for 8-years in order for continuity in leadership or buyers remorse. This post has been edited by Ebase: Sep 26 2010, 01:52 PM |

I like term limits, but you have to look at how long someone is in office before you say one term. Someone who is in office for two years has little chance to make any changes or get any work done.

Then all the minority party would have to do is just what the Republicans are doing now. Just say no to anything and everything the party in power is trying to get passed. One-term is too short. I think term limits should be applied to senators and congressman (state and federal). But for congressmen, extend the years they serve to four instead of two. Congressmen can serve four terms in total, to reach a maximum of 16 years, state or federal, of government service. For senators, a maximum of three terms in total, to reach a maximum of 18 years of government service. I think that's fair. -------------------- QUOTE When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?' --Don Marquis (1878 - 1937) |

I think the GOP's "Pledge to the Nation" includes this, though i am not entirely sure. If so, i kinda agree with it. I think two terms is fair since the President also gets two terms.

I agree with Ebase here. You'll never see politicians put in term-limits, since they want to stay employed and keep power. The only reason official presidential term limits were created was because FDR was fresh in everyone's mind.

My Congressman is stinking up the airwaves with really putrid ads, making television even more unwatchable than usual (she is the Medusa to me - too mesmerizing to glance into her eyes, lest I turn to stone). I've listened to it 150 times today if I've heard it once.
btw, not really serious with 1TN, I'm just trying to start the next meme. cuz hey, ya never know. @ eBase; Power is Addicting. Intoxication is Enabling. This post has been edited by ThunderDawg: Sep 26 2010, 05:57 PM -------------------- [attachment=7772:boehner_gavel.jpg] |

It was in the original "Contract with America" in 1994. And if politicians are too resistant to vote it in, why do so many states have limits for their governors and state legislators? |

This would put an insane amount of power into lobbyists hands.

Luckily, the FFs did make Congress completely replaceable every 2 years. The American Public could just fire them all, if there was that much dissatisfaction. It's not a new idea, just an underused one.
I'm still looking for that next meme - whether it earns me notoriety or shame, there is no bad fame. These days. All the previous memes were something stupid, so in order to achieve that all I have to do is come up with something stupid enough that it catches on fire. Nothing physically damaging, like jumping off a house or a baseball bat punch to the nutsac. Here is another one of yesterday's ideas: Urban Dictionary has agreed to publish my submission for Pol-Troll; (This is my 5th word they have accepted) QUOTE Pol-Troll, n., 1.) A person who friends a politician on FaceBook or other social networking site, only to heckle them. 2.) An offending post on a politician's FaceBook page or other social networking site which is heckling or otherwise unfriendly to the politician. v., 1.) To heckle a politican you friended on FaceBook or other social networking site. 2.) To friend a politician for the sole purpose of heckling them. Ex.: I went over to my Congressional Incumbent's FaceBook page to Pol-Troll all over it. He is truly a scumbag. The City Commissioner didn't like it when I Pol-Trolled his FB page. But I just love being a Pol-Troll too much to stop. ;-P This could shake up every politician in this country, if it catches on fire. Friend them, taunt them. They will have to remove most of the posts on their goddamn walls }:-> -------------------- [attachment=7772:boehner_gavel.jpg] |
