Wait that actually happened? I just thought it was news the beat writers circulated because they were bored and there was a lockout.

I saw some Knicks players manning the phones. Didn't get close enough to see if any Rangers were. So maybe they get to be mere spectators rather than volunteer workers. biggrin.gif

When asked about the banner the Rangers said they wouldn't have had a banner raising ceremony even if the season had started. I don't see the big deal about it. There's a 1994 atlantic division banner up there too. Other teams raise division championship banners.

Someone people are annoyed there was no ceremony, others are annoyed that there's a division championship banner as if the Rangers are "better than that" or that it's "something only a team like the Capitals does."

Someone also told me that if you go to Belle Centre in Montreal you don't see any division championship banners. To which my response was, "Yeah but you see 24 Stanley Cup Champions banners."

In 87 years the Rangers haven't had a whole lot to celebrate so if you really want to point to the Habs and say that they don't do it, wait until the Rangers win 20 more championships.

Yeah, no kidding there wouldn't be a ceremony. It's a regular season thing and there are never/have never been ceremonies for those. So why put it up now? Why not wait until there's an actual hockey audience to appreciate it? It's just another small thing that says "We don't give a f#ck about hockey fans." Then again, the NHL has been transmitting that message since 1995 anyway.

People are actually getting upset by this? If there wasn't going to be a ceremony who gives a shit? (and if there was going to be a ceremony I'd understand the annoyance/anger) I'd bet half the Garden wouldn't even realize that the banner was up. I wouldn't have noticed it if the season had started on time if it wasn't point out to me. Relax people.

What does this even mean? The Rangers and Knicks banners are up at the same time? And the Knicks don't just "Show Up" they've been there since 1949.

They probably put it up at the beginning of the year before both the Knicks and theoretical Rangers season started like they would have anyway. People just weren't looking for it.

I've stayed away from this section but since hockey talk seems to be progressing to "what can the Rangers do" as opposed to "lockout argh" I figured I'd pop in.

Glad I did, banner gate was good for a laugh.

You know the more I read about him and the Juniors, the more exicted I get about Miller.

Guy is really one of the stars of a team that trashed Canada. I mean considering Chereponav seemed to have great talent too, this team's ability to draft and find prospects has been really really good lately.

I guess it's a reason I've been more ok than others to say thanks for the memories to MDZ. I'm starting to have faith in this teams scouting department so that this guy Skjei should be able to replace him.

Brady Skej is a good two-way defensemen but hes not going to put up 40+ points in the NHL. If he pans out and is a regular starter.
