And let me just say, I realize my last comment was completely douchey, but it never would've happened if you didn't come in here with a smug "guess I'm not so ridiculous after all" post. I don't think it was ridiculous. Penn state administration was aware of that situation and did nothing about it, not just the athletics department. It's the right warning. I agree with this. A school's first priority should be education and the actions of school administrator's jeopardized this mission. So you basically threaten to pull the accrediation if those involved aren't fired. What about all the faculty and current students who as Sed pointed out have "fuck all to do with athletics" And what do all those students that looked forward to an athletic scholarship program from Penn, or were accepted by Penn to then join the football team? College career in sports is important, especially for kids that want to get drafted or play pro sports later on. I wonder if there has been any report yet on how many kids dropped out of Penn because of this, be they students only or even athletes. How many are transferring out of the school? Any news on this? But in any case, what do those people have to do with it? Nothing. But, to keep focus on their academic career, or sports career, they could transfer. I know, not easy and there are implications for certain students and so on. But you know what? Why shouldn't people responsible for this get really punished just because they get away with it due to the students? If i was a Penn State student, i would have bolted after this story in disgust. Not enough people paid consequences in this ordeal, in my opinion. The board and deans and high position staff members that had any kind of knowledge of this ugly story are pretty much getting away with it. Everything is all on the athletic department and a deceased person, pretty much. The big fine? They'll recover that in not such a long time either. It even sounded like that they were comfortable with that fine too. If Penn State was given an ultimatum that it would have faced a year worth of suspension in their accreditation if people linked to this story were not fired, you would have seen a lot more people fired. -------------------- ![]() |

I'm not saying that their accreditation should be pulled but a warning that their actions jeopardized their accreditation is entirely appropriate. "You are a college, not a professional sports organization. Behave like it." Exactly. That is my problem with this. Penn State athletics got the slap. Not the school itself. Completely unacceptable in my opinion. -------------------- ![]() |

I'm not saying that their accreditation should be pulled but a warning that their actions jeopardized their accreditation is entirely appropriate. "You are a college, not a professional sports organization. Behave like it." I want to make something very clear, you didn't say their accreditation should be pulled, but 101 absolutely did I think the school should have been hit harder. This was meaningless and nothing to do with that the school did. It's a ridiculous punishment. $60M is great and a heavy fine, but so should have people been fined, and accreditation should have been suspended for a full school year starting in Fall 2013. That's a better way of punishing the school. On top of that, his comments were ridiculous not only because he felt the school should lose their accreditation, it's right there in black and white 101, but he said in as a response to the NCAAs ruling saying how stupid it was, as if the NCAA could've dished out punishment like that. Not to mention how absolutely hypocritical his opinion was to begin with: But what the hell does the team have anything to do with this? Nothing. Players did not cheat, other coaches and team staff members did not cheat. Well 101, what the hell do Faculty and students have to do with this, they did not cheat. They did nothing wrong. THAT'S why your comments were ridiculous. The fact that Penn State is now on probation does not justify your hypocritical lunacy. Sorry. I thought the NCAA ruling was idiotic except for the fine. Nothing was done for the Pen State board and administration, though. Fine i misspoke as in the NCAA could have done something to the school as well.... who cares. People got away with this, that is the bottom line. This will be all but forgotten in a few years, which to me is unacceptable and Penn State just got away with what should have been a punishment to their lack of ethics as an accredited institution of education. It was considered, and that means that they had reasons to suspend their accreditation. I stand by what i said. If my kid was a victim, i would have wanted this to happen for sure. -------------------- ![]() |

I said that what i suggested was even considered and in my opinion it was not as ridiculous then. I didn't gloat saying "Ah ha! I was right!" so you're absolutely wrong there. -------------------- ![]() |

QUOTE The Jerry Sandusky sex scandal continues to reverberate at Penn State. The latest shock from the scandal that resulted in the ouster of coach Joe Paterno and crushing NCAA penalties involves the in-game music selection. The athletic association has banned the playing of the Neil Diamond classic “Sweet Caroline,” which has become a staple at many sporting events. University officials were concerned because of a line in the song that goes “touching you, touching me,” according to the Allatoona Mirror newspaper http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-georgia-sport...sweet-caroline/ |

Isn't the line, "touching me, touching you."?

Sandusky: 30 to 60 years.
-------------------- Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike |

There seems to be some agreement amongst my friends with this sentiment. The guy will almost certainly die in jail.
But 30 to 60 years? For 45 guilty counts relating to child molestation? That is an average of 8 to 16 months per count. I think that's ridiculous, with how many children and for how long Sandusky has done this. Again, I know he is going to rot in a cell. But this should have been more symbolic than anything. -------------------- |

He's like 65, so 30-60 years is still a life sentence. -------------------- |

He was going to get 400 years but it would have been overkill said the judge. He's like 65, so 30-60 years is still a life sentence. I just don't like a precedent being set. We wnat to believe or perhaps hope this will never happen again. But what if it does? Can a legal team now not argue that in a similar set of circumstances, the guy got 30-60? What if the offender then was 38, not 68? I would have gone full overkill here and thrown the whole book at them. Murderers have been given 200+ year sentences. This is a serial child rapist, which is almost as bad. -------------------- |
