Burnsie had a good suggestion so I figured I'd follow up on it. I'll be posting from th iPhone app store but this is open to all platforms. Just make sure you make it clear in your post which platform you got the app for.

Downloaded Draw Something for iOS. It's basically 1 on 1 Pictionary. If you're friends with me on Facebook, you can find me through there for a game. If not, you can search for alitaki and it's game on.

EDIT: it's $.99 and it's for both iPad and iPhone/iPod touch.

I adore my WP7, and mostly anyone I've shown it to has been very surprised at how cool it is. They are surprised at how much more involved and fluid it is than their phone.
Then they go buy another iPhone.

I love the thing, but 10% of the iPhone apps does hurt a bit. Only a few I'd want, but not having them sucks.
Then again, I barely use apps. Some games, but the screen is too small for most to really be incredible.
But I want Words With Friends and Draw Something.

I was given an iPad by work, but had I gotten a smartphone like I was originally planning to do I was leaning pretty heavily toward a Windows phone based on some of the things we've talked about in past threads and some of the reading that I've done on my own.

Not to turn this thread into another phone discussion, but ive heard nothing but good things about the new Windows phone OS and 8 is supposed to be even better.

I'm locked into iOS though. Too many apps, too many accessories to switch to another platform at this point.

Android Apps:

Out of Milk: Free shopping app that you can use a the bar code scannie thing or type in what you need at the food store. LOVE.

Addons Detector: Lets you know what ads and tools each app uses. Zynga is bar far the worst offender so I deleted all their stuff. I play Word Feud instead of Words with Friends now because of it.

TiVo: What can I say? You scroll through your listings, set up recordings and you can even use your phone as the remote. SWOON!

Wordfued is much better anyway. The interface is simpler and smoother.

As for ads: Anyone who roots, AdAway works quite well

The bullshit alarm is a large black box you keep by your desk. If you're not sure about something, say it out loud to the box. It uses proprietary processing algorithms to determine the bullshit parts-per-million, and if it exceeds the nationally accepted threshold, Terry Crews pops out of the top of the box and slaps you, screaming "THAT'S BULLSHIT!"

Actually, those are the people that sell antenna boosters. They used to advertise at 2 am all the time.
Tests repeatedly show that they either have no effect or, in some cases, weaken signal.

I really don't use the ipad for anything other than books, games and video.

Books:

Obviously get the Kindle & Nook apps as that will allow you to have the best of all worlds. Stanza is another good ereader for books you procure from locations other than Apple, Amazon or B&N.
I've discovered the benefit of reading comic books on the ipad too. I've got Xcomicology, Marvel, DC & IDW apps on my ipad. You don't need all of them as Xcomicology has both Marvel and DC comics for sale through their app (and they all use the same technology) but there might be titles that are exclusive to the Marvel & DC apps. I don't collect much Marvel or DC but I have all of the GI Joe reboot from IDW. Reading comics on the iPad is wonderful.

The Newstand is pretty cool too. Not a great selection of magazines yet, but getting there. I had the Daily News app for awhile but didn't like that the daily paper was just a PDF of the print edition.

Games:

Draw Something, Plants vs. Zombies, Amature Surgeon, NY Times Crosswords, Worms HD & Monopoly.

Video:

Netflix, HBOGo, MaxGo, Time Warner Cable app.

Like I said, I really don't do much with my iPad other than that. I've got my banking apps, a sports boxscore app (SportsTap), the CNN app for news and Photobucket so that I can upload photos online to post in threads here.

All I use tablets for is video (man, a lifesaver on airplanes) and Wikipedia searches on the couch. Nothing else. The TouchPad has few games, and I don't really have a use for that, anyway. If I'm on the couch I'm on the Xbox, if I'm gaming elsewhere it's probably too quick to grab anything other than my phone.

But I'll never, ever read on a tablet. Fuck that. eInk or die.

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

Reading on tablets is okay if you're using a program that allows you to change the background, font and brightness. Brightness down plus tannish background and I can read for hours.

All I use tablets for is video (man, a lifesaver on airplanes)

This...

I love it for Netflix, HBOGo, and MaxGo. Assuming the airplane's wifi isn't lagging (sometimes a problem) I have endless hours of movies.

I truly hate talking to people on flights. So putting on my noise canceling headphones, pulling up a movie? And its much easier to take out. Before I sit down, I put it in the magazine sleeve. I can leave my laptop under the seat. When I first bought it, I was having trouble justifying it as something useful. Just a gadget. Now as time progresses. Being able to FaceTime with my family is priceless to me.

This. Also, I'm trying to minimize the number of devices that I have to carry around.

If you could put a voice plan on an ipad, I'd get a bluetooth headset and ditch my iphone. Seriously, I'd never have need for it again.

And I hate convergence:
- No device holds as much and has as long a battery as my ipod, so I prefer to have my music on it. Plus if I drop the thing, or if I lose it, or if I run out of battery it's no big deal. It's very disposable
- My phone is my phone. I need it to communicate. If I'm without it because the battery dies I may miss something important, or may not be able to use it yet really need it. I'm ok with killing small bits of time gaming, but other than that it's for communication and internet only. Battery is a huge concern
- My tablet is easy on/easy off and great for movies. Battery life is good, though I'm not concerned, but the thing is pretty fragile, inputting sucks and the storage blows
- My netbook is more portable than the tablet because it's less fragile, and it's fantastic at inputting but battery life blows, booting takes forever and it struggles with video
- My laptop is a less portable netbook with far more power and storage. It does nothing poorly but it's bulky and requires sitting
- My desktop is infinitely more powerful than any of the above, with insane storage and (most importantly) far more screen real estate. Getting work done is much, much better on this. But it's obviously tied to a desk

My devices. I'm happy with each and am in no rush to replace any with another. The ipad as a phone thing is weird to me as my phone is on me 24/7. I'd hate anything larger than a 4" screen.

It's still not that good for your eyes though. We don't want you to get the thick glasses down the road.
