Kevyn Allen says no Parenteau deal to happen.

Why would anyone trade anyone? There are 2-4 teams in the whole league who aren't in the playoff race. suicide_anim.gif

Like I said earlier in the thread, a lot of these teams are kidding themselves. "Won't someone think of the season ticket subscribers?!?!?" laugh2.gif

Wanna spur more trading? Don't get rid of the cap or change the transaction rules...

...just get rid of the loser point. No points for just making it to OT. All the garbage teams will get flushed out early and become sellers.

So just go to a wins/losses standings system like baseball? OK.

Here you go.

Which teams there are clearly out of it that aren't clearly out in the current standings system?

A few games here or there can make a BIG deal.

Case in point Anaheim. They're currently 4 points (2 GB) in the current standings. Using your link, they'd be 5 games back. That's a big jump. Calgary goes from 1.5 games back to 4 games back as another example. Carolina goes from 4.5 games back to 6.5.

I see your point, but I do think you'd see some differences in the trade mentality.

It is nothing like the Richards situation. Nash is signed for years to come and Richards was going to be UFA. Howson does not HAVE to trade Nash now in order to get something for him.

It's more the, "you better give me what I want, or else" attitude. There are few, VERY few realistic suitors for Nash, at least as of today. For the deadline overall, it's a seller's market given the few realistic players available, but for the particular situation that is the Rick Nash Soap Opera, it's the reverse; there are few people willing to take on his baggage and cap hit. Also, the team losing the best player ALWAYS loses in this scenario. If Nash is the great singular talent everyone makes him out to be, there's no way Columbus wins this, unless first round pick #22-30 that they get actually turns into a star himself (statistically unlikely).

$10 says Nash gets traded for FAR FAR less than what's rumored.

Well he's will have assisted in the franchise getting even more egg on his face. They created this spectacle, you have Nash submitting teams, an agent saying trade my guy and the Jackets end up not doing it? Maybe it's not a big deal in other deadlines when you had 30 trades, but when we're starting at the possibility of less than five? The guy and team as a whole will get criticized for its unprofessionalism.

From that list, I'd say anything below tenth place in each conference is kidding themselves (and if they do make it, it's 4-5 games and out, which I suppose buys their inept management teams at least another season of job security. "well, we DID make the playoffs, yuck yuck..."). This means that LA doesn't trade for Carter, and Burke stops wasting Howson's (and Sather's) time.

I think the "as of today" is the key right there. Last year with richards it was foolish to say you better give me what I want, because he had no fallback position. But with Nash, why can't he ask for the moon now and see if someone bites? Worst case scenario, he hangs on to Nash for the rest of year and tries again in the offseason (where his asking price will probably be more negotiable, but he will also have more teams that might be interested).

So your 2nd trade is some inside deal between Yzerman and the Wings.

NHL Network/TSN still trying to sell you stay tuned!

The TSN staff is just breaking down. laugh2.gif

There's an analyst missing on their four person set. In the back you have two guys trying to look busy on their phones and computers. And then on the side you have three guys talking to each other in a huddle. This reminds me of the first days of NHL on OLN when it looked like a college tv station.

In all seriousness, I think this deadline is reinforcing just how important it is to develop your own team. The good news is the Rangers are doing a very good job of it. But it really seems at this point trading for immediate help may be on the way out.

Steve Ott? I honestly don't even know why Dallas would want to trade him. I just don't get why these GMs ride these rumors and then say "oh well...only if i get an amazing offer". Just don't trade the guy if you don't want to move him.

I'm surprised you're continuously trying to rip me on this when about 10 people here have been talking about for almost 3 weeks that Nash can't handle the pressure in New York or any other big city. I think it's a lot more appropriate to talk about factual evidence of a guy playing under a pressure situation than having people theorize for dozens of posts about how Nash would or wouldn't perform in a big city because of something said by a 3rd party.

I know it's a slow news day, but do we really have to talk about this?

Some noise about the Rangers closing in on Bryan Allen...from Twitter, so take it FWIW.

0 goals in 62 games. Sounds like just the guy we need.

Brad Stuart is awesome. Also replaces Paul Maras playoff beard quite well.

I really hope we pick up a Colton Orr-ish type guy. We need more jam.

In all seriousness, I think this deadline is reinforcing just how important it is to develop your own team. The good news is the Rangers are doing a very good job of it. But it really seems at this point trading for immediate help may be on the way out.

Wow. Now TSN is talking about the Canadian 2014 Olympic team?! emot-words.gif

HAHAHAHHAHAHA. A "breaking trade" and in mid announcement they cut to break... Oh my goodness, this is BRUTAL!

I hear Rick Nash might do well in that pressure situation with Toews.

Go get laid and lighten up.

I like Brad Stuart, but, um, yeah. We picked up a 5th/6th defenseman. Tingling over here.

A solid 5th/6th d-man would help down the stretch A LOT, especially if it is someone like Allen or Stuart who could log more minutes in case of injuries.
