Braves 3rd and 4th? They're supposed to be the sexy NL East sleeper pick to get the Wild Card, was what I'd been hearing. It's very sweet of you guys to put the Orioles in 4th, though. I appreciate that; I figure anything above 5th is bonus points.

Yeah, I could see the Braves getting 2nd in the East easily, that's gonna be a tough division this year. Really tough.

There's a lot of hype around Heyward. You should see some of the things the Atlanta press is writing about him. My Braves fan friend even thinks it's ridiculous.
And the East has been a tough division since 2006, but even the Nationals could be competitive this season. I'll believe it when I see it, but that's what some people are saying.

I think Atlanta will be okay. I dont think the starting pitching will be there for them though.

I love how down outsideres are on the Mets. As fun as it is for me to hate on them right now, everyone forgets that when Beltran comes back they have a line-up that can compete with just about any in the league. Theres no way the injuries are as bad as last year, it's practically impossible.

Pitching is their weakest link, but apart from the Phillies it's not like there are any powerhouse rotations in the East

When we complete the Santana/Rodriguez cloning plan, we'll be all good.

Seriously, it's a little bizarre to me how weak the Mets pitching staff is in the last few years. The Mets traditionally have had strengths in pitching. the 1969 team won a world series practically on pitching alone.

I think it has less to do with the lineup and more to do with the pitching as to why no one is all that into the Mets. Maybe they get a 3 if good Ollie comes out to pitch.

Jason Heyward will officially be the Braves starting right fielder. Should be interesting - hopefully he lives up to his expectations a little more like Matt Wieters in September 2009 and a little less like Matt Wieters before September 2009.

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

One of the great things about subscribing to the NHL Center Ice package is the fact that you ALSO get the MLB Extra Innings package for the duration of the NHL season. Free baseball! Yay!

So remember when the Phillies were down 1-0 to the Nats earlier today? Yeah they are up 11-1 now. Yikes.

Good job holding Pujols to only 10 bases and a 2.800 OPS.

Jason Heyward with a 3-run jack in his first ever AB. Kid has a flair for the dramatic.

Not a shabby way to start your career in the majors.

Reason for edit: And I just read it was the first swing of his first AB. Yowza.

Welcome to the bigs, Mr. Heyward. I look forward to Jayson Stark's column tomorrow declaring you the only player ever to homer in his first at-bat on Opening Day in a day game on a Monday with two men on.

And if that wasn't amazing enough, it was on his first swing, which is EVEN MORE AMAZING.

Meanwhile, the Royals' opening day lineup prominently features Scott Podsednik, Jose Guillen, and Willie Bloomquist.

I hate baseball.
