If you go to the NHL Gamecenter Live page now it says "not currently available this season, check back next season," but I don't know if that was there previously or not. I'd pay 50 bucks for 3 months worth of Gamecenter Live, but no more than that. I'm not sure why they wouldn't offer it again this season. And being the NHL, watch them try to make up for lost revenue and charge like $100 for it.

There better be a discount for Center Ice.

Agreed, bu tlike is saying said on GameCenter, they're more likely to charge 2/3'rds of a season for 1/2 worth of games.

I think actually that's usually the case when you order it halfway through the season anyway.

Better be free, otherwise I'm not paying a penny for it. Last year there were around 30 Rangers games not broadcasted on center ice. If the Rangers are on national TV a ton again in this mini-season, AND they are charging for center ice then fuck that noise.

I wont pay for anything this year, I dont think Im mounting any meaningful protest just feel like "fuck the NHL" right now. I will always be a fan and not gonna lie will always come back. So if gamecenter isnt free im skipping this year, its easy enough to watch for free.
I do sort of feel like a Rangers fan can play the "not our fault" card more than many fans at this point.

I was thinking what games, if any, I would go to. I can only think of 2, when the Ducks are in town to see Selanne one last time, and if by some miracle the Rangers come to town.

I'm probably going to one Hurricanes game, and then whatever Ranger games I can afford.

I would pay 50$ for gamecenter, but it would be hard to justify paying more. I have access to NBC sports.

So, which team(s) will be active to make roster changes before January 19? There is a buyout window for a max of two players that doesn't count against the cap, if i am correct (?).

I say the Nucks and Luongo. Panthers, Leafs, or a surprise team, will lowball the Nucks to the point where they'll just have to accept whatever is offered or they will buy him out, which would benefit the team wanting Luongo.

Should the Rangers waste one buy out on Redden?

Don't think the buyouts go into effect until after the season. Teams are stuck with bad contracts until June.

The buyout period is from now until the beginning of 13-14. Two buyouts allowed. I still haven't heard if contracts like Reddens will now count against the cap even if he is in Hartford. If so, he is an automatic.

It will:

QUOTE
— Any player on a one-way contract who plays in the American Hockey League with a salary in excess of the NHL's minimum salary plus $375,000 will have the excess amount charged against his team's salary cap.

From The Sporting News

I remember seeing it from a bunch of the usual twitter suspects also, but haven't found any yet.

More on the compliance buyouts:

QUOTE
Nick Kypreos
‏@RealKyper
Note on new #CBA compliance buyouts. #NHL clubs can use the 2 buyouts over the next 2 summers only. Also option to use both buyouts at once

Via Kypreos' twitter

So the buyouts can't be used until after this season. However, teams can go up to $70ish million for this season. So even with Redden counting on the cap, the Rangers have a hair less than $5.7 million to sign MDZ + a spare F or D (Gilroy)

snort, Wade Redden is going to be BACK on the Rangers before XC ever fulfills his end of the bet.

I'm just saying, if it was me, you'd have to give that bad boy to a bum, wherever you are, before Wade Redden possibly plays a single game as a Ranger.

On the other side of the coin, if I was you I would've just paid a bum $20 to PRETEND he was accepting a jersey, take a photo or video, and this long joke would've died already.

Kovalchuck would be committing career suicide yes. He can no longer play for the KHL if he doesn't return. However, if he were to formally "retire" I think he can stay. He obviously leaves that money behind, but he leaves it behind if he doesn't show up anyway.

Does this mean taking in a Ranger game as a group or doing a Rangerland pickup game?

No, they mean getting together at the Garden or a neutral (read: bar) location to see a game.

Kovalchuk can't stay in Russia with a contract here, no? Devils would be fuming... would be fun for us, but yeah....

I don't get much feeling about any moves being made before the season starts. With the cap going down next season, 2013 has got to be a busy transactions year. Moves can only happen with a CBA officially in place though, right? So once that is approved, i guess trades/signings will happen?

You guys think we will see much movement at all before the 19th?

I can't see how. I don't think teams will have a grasp enough of the long term impact of things to be wheeling and dealing.

True.... but it's possible that some talks or negotiations may have been paused with the lockout last year. I think Luongo has got to go, no? I mean, the salary cap will go down to $64M. Some teams will need to prepare for this off-season. Next season the Rangers only have $6.5M in cap space. Stepan, Hagelin, and McD will get significant raises.

By the way, is Del Zotto even signed yet?

But anyway.... some moves may happen.
