Oh come now, they were so evenly matched in the regular season, I don't see how you can take that into account when judging the two teams considering we are now 28 days and 2 rounds into the playoffs.

No one is saying the Coyotes haven't played well. But the Kings have steamrolled the top two teams in the West. They haven't beaten teams by 1 goal consistently like Phoenix has done. Los Angeles is demolishing teams.

Now as these playoffs have shown, ANYTHING can happen. But the Kings are the betting favorite right now and are being given the "favorite" treatment amongst the media as well.

The Coyotes handled a Blackhawks team most picked to win that series. They then just trounced a team who many picked to come out of the West. The Coyotes are playing just as well as the Kings right now.

That doesn't fit into his narrative, though.

My "narrative"? You're right, this is just all theory without any facts. Oh wait.

You mean the sports books list Los Angeles as a favorite? The media is too? Wowza!

Oh, the fact that L.A. has needed one overtime to win a game, and has a goal differential of +12 while Phoenix has needed four overtimes and have a differential of +8.

Ah, then you get to the fact L.A. is 8-1 against the top two seeds in the West while the Coyotes have a worse record of 8-3 against lower seeds.

Need more? Los Angeles has won one game by a 1 goal margin. Phoenix? Six

So L.A. has a better winning percentage, has a better goal differential, has beaten teams more convincingly and has taken on stiffer competition. Lastly, they are 5-0 on the road in the playoffs further showing that "home-ice advantage" has clearly meant absolutely nothing in their two series.

Yeah, my "narrative" is based purely on biased opinions.

But, as continually needs to be pointed out on these boards, you can't just make blanket comparisons with teams that are trying to do completely different things. The Kings couldn't "Out-Blues" the Blues, so they turned up the offense a little more. Phoenix knew they couldn't go tit-for-tat offensively with Nashville, so they counterattacked. The result? Some higher scoring games for the Kings and lower ones for Phoenix.

The Kings could very well win the series, but people are discounting Phoenix way too much. Elliott wasn't ready for prime time, Smith has shown he is. I say the goalie matchup is pretty even. Phoenix completely neutralized Nashville's best offensive players, who is to say they can't take out Kopitar and Richards?

If I were a betting man I would put some money on Phoenix to win the cup right now. They have the goaltending, the defense (OEL is an amazing player) and are getting timely scoring from everyone in their lineup. Add in the fact that Dave Tippett is one of the best coaches in the business, and this is probably going to be a tough series for the Kings.

I have been saying all season you can't judge a team based on its best hot streak. The Kings have played really well, but chances are they are going to hit a road block before all is said and done. No team, IMO, seems more capable of throwing a tree in the middle of the road than the Coyotes.

Two huge hits. First Volchenkov crushes Shenn, then Renaldo absolutely pastes Volchenkov, who went to the locker room.

Jagr has been pretty invisible in this series, after a great performance against Pittsburgh.

And jhust as I post that, Jagr makes a great defensive play against Kovalchuk.

It's like the team from Philadelphia has a penchant for taking horribly stupid penalties or something.

As much as I can't stand the Devils and I despise Brodeur, seeing Philthy fans so miserable in their own building amuses me no end. I still wish it could be the Rangers putting the hurt on them like this but, WTH, the Rangers already did it to them 6X this season. That was pretty freakin' sweet, right there.

I think everyone claiming "the Devils are easy, we'll beat them in 5" is in for a rude awakening. Kovalchuk isn't spectacular, but he is certainly contributing to his team. And they still have Parise and Elias.

Their weak link is Brodeur, but even he has flashes of brilliance.

I think we will beat the Devils, but it will be another long, grueling series.

Who exactly is claiming this?

1.The Rangers aren't in round 3 yet, and

2. By round 3--nobody's easy.

I remember several posts claiming how "terrible" both the Flyers AND the Devils are, and how neither will be that hard for the Rangers. I'd look them up, but frankly I am not near a computer. :P

Anyone who watched Rangers/Devils games during the regular season shouldn't be thinking the Rangers would roll. And Kovalchuk isn't just a "contributor," he's an elite threat.

There weren't a lot of great offenses in this playoffs. But it's becoming apparent (to this guy) that without calling the games tight in favor of offense, a good offense like the Flyers can be neutralized rather effectively by smart defense.

Yikes!!!!!!!!

I thought Debbies would win series, but I didn't think they would do it so easily. By playing undicipline hockey, Flyers helped their demise a great deal, Debbies play a very well sound fundamentally game. You look at their defense and you won't be impressed. Also, just about everyone thought Flyers would obliterate them with their forecheck. I have to say they are very efficient in managing the puck, chip it out, and they don't stay in their zone too long. This helped Brodeur average game a great deal.

Flyers trade Richards to Kings, Carter winds up there indirectly, pluck Bryz from the Coyotes. Kings, Coyotes go to WC Finals.

But, but, Holmgren is the best GM in the league. Phlyers fans sed so! They're incensed he was overlooked by the league for a nomination.

Yeah i don't get that either. I think even Eklund wrote a whole piece when the season was over that Holmgren was the league's best GM.

He did not improve the team. He got rid of two problems, but gained a problem, and a big one at that, in Bryzgalov (it would be funny if there is a forgiven buy out period with the next CBA and Bryz gets bought out). He made trades to bolster his defense, did not work. I mean, i thought they were going to be worse, but the talent acquired proved that they can be just as good and they got younger, which is a plus. But, they got eliminated..........by the Devils.............in five.

Tallon, Maloney, and Poile are my top three.
