ooh oooh, I've got two responses to this.

1) Spiderman was not a part of the original Avengers. I don't understand why everyone clamors for him so much when it comes to Avengers movies. I don't think he was even ever really associated with the Avengers until the 2000s with the New Avengers, meaning the Avengers existed for a good 40 years before there was any spiderman stuff other than cameos.

2) So it's safe to assume the new Spider-Man movie coming out will have a ticket with your name on it. The movie you so vehemently came out against as your final straw against Hollywood?

2 parts? laugh2.gif Ive taught you well young one!

1) I realise Spider-man wasnt part of the original roster, but if you got that far back, neither was Captain America. Avengers is being sold on the basis if cramming awesome superheros together. Why would you NOT want the most popular character of that franchise around?

2) Reboots have nothing to do with my love of Spider-man as a character. One of the reasons I love the comic is its writing - something filmmakers have proven they cannot do well with their need for reboots.

He often refers to himself as a part-time member (which I took as his humour - in reality aren't they all part time?) but hes listed on their roster, which makes him a card carrying member in my book.

Yeah, I wasn't too pleased with Norton dropping out of it too but they announced that a while back actually. Ruffalo will even be Banner in the next Hulk movie. Disappointing but hopefully it won't ruin anything.

Captain America came on in the 4th ever issue of the Avengers and is considered a "founding member" even though he wasn't in the first three. Marvel get's a lot of leeway as far as who is and isn't members because the crew has always had a revolving door policy with it's members. Having the Avengers in the first movie be Black Widow and Hawkeye makes a hell of a lot more sense than Ant-Man and Wasp. Black Widow ties in nicely to Iron Man, and honestly, who would want to watch a one off of Wasp or Ant-Man?

Secondly, I'm sure Marvel would love to include Spidey but they CAN'T, although there is going to be some loophole play. Coulson and the actor who plays him will be a character on the new Spidey animated television show. Sony only owns the MOVIE rights for Spidey, nothing else. So in the grand scheme of things Spidey will be tied into the marvel universe continuity, but their hands are tied for the films. There are talks that Marvel could try and get cute with the cartoon and drop the Avengers into it, and then have spidey make a cameo in the films claiming they are using the ultimate spiderman and not anyother spiderman but that would never hold water and marvel has said time and time again he will not show up in any of their films.

Lastly, legally not being allowed to include Spiderman is not a reason to not make an Avengers movie.

QUOTE

Well, Spiderman popped up a number of times and was a friend of the Avengers but I'm not entirely sure of timelines of when he was actually a member of the team. I never really remembered him as one or reading about him as one until relatively recently, and most of the searches I've done have turned up the same thing.

Exactly, my friend. Its not about religiously sticking to the comics, its about what people want. I'm pretty sure most people want spider-man.

I'm aware of the legal problems of getting him in the movie. I'm not screaming for him or crying heresay or anything. I'm just saying without him I have no real interest in this project.

Norton would have been poison for this project. The only reason he isn't in the movie is because he was a complete and utter pain in the ass and Marvel cut it's losses.

Is that right? Where'd you hear/read that? I thought I had seen somewhere that it was just because the two couldn't agree on compensation for him to be in any future films or something like that.

Here's one example with him giving quotes like this

QUOTE
“The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque,”

“I won’t say [they're] obtuse, but I don’t have any idea what they want to do.”

Marvel claims without outright saying it Norton was a pain in the ass, and it was widely reported during filming of the Hulk he WAS a giant pain in the ass.

Norton left respectively and had nothing bad to say, then Marvel announced they weren't signing him because they wanted someone who believed in the collaborative spirit of the project. It wasn't until THEN that Norton said "oh no, it was money."

Normally I would think this lies somewhere in the middle, but hearing that Norton is a pain in the ass is nothing new.

WHATEVER

BACK TO HOW AWESOME THIS TRAILER IS!! WE'RE IN THIS TOGETHER NOOOOOW!!!!!!

I'm pretty freakin' jazzed for this. One of the things I looked forward to the most was Tony bouncing off of all the other characters and so far I'm seeing I won't be disappointed.

I know it doesn't show a lot, but so far so good, the feel is pitch perfect imo.

To answer your question, no - Cap's not immortal. Ever since he won the Matrix of Leadership from Voldemort in a game of Sabbac, it's slowed his aging process though.

If they answered that question in the movie and I have no idea how Captain America looks the same in his movie and in the Avengers movie then it should be quite obvious that I haven't seen the recent Captain America movie.

Either you have no deductive reasoning or you think I'm a fucking idiot.

Also this all could have been avoided by simply answering the question or by pointing me to a place that has the answer to my question.

That said however, the answer to the question is basically the center-point of the entire Captain America movie and probably the next one as well as the Avengers, so, is it still something that you want to be told? Or do you just want to see the movie for yourself when it's released on DVD in a few weeks?

If it's that important to the movie I guess I'll wait and watch Captain America in a couple weeks.

Also this all could have been avoided by simply answering the question or by pointing me to a place that has the answer to my question.

Or you could have googled it and saved yourself a lot of time and ridicule. I mean seriously. You can find gifs and illegal downloads of pretty much anything but you can't google a simple question?

Spidey as well as half the marvel universe was a reserve Avenger. I beleive it was Infinity Gauntlet when they summoned all reserve Avengersand Spidey was one of them

Actually I think you're right about him being a reserve but you're a little off on that Infinity Gauntlet part. They didn't call up the reserves, they got every superhero left alive. Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, and Wolverine (just to name three) never had any affiliation with any of the Avengers teams at that point in time.

I was under the impression spidey hung round them a lot more once it became known his parents were associated with them. I also believe he's a fully fledged new avenger, though if you go off that we'll be asking why wolverine and daredevil aren't in the movie (which would be epic)

He didn't fully join the new avengers until the 2000s.

Marvel and Disney want to make this a franchise, so as far as I know they have no intention of the doing the comics revolving door thing. I don't think they've put money into all these movies to have more than half the group leave and other characters come in, etc etc.

One if the only reasons they can even avoid ridiculously high costs is because they basically structured the actors contracts around them being in their own flicks and the avengers.

My point is, they can't sit there and put half the marvel universe in there because the story would become toomuddled and everyone would accuse them of spiderman 3ing it. That doesn't even cover expenses because they don't really want no names playing the characters. They originally said hulk would be played by a no name when they dropped norton but then went with ruffalo cause they wanted that star power in case they make more movies.

Anyway, point is, I'm not that worried about them not having every single reserve avenger in the film because that's basically the entire marvel universe.

at one time wolverine and ghost rider were in the Avengers.

I DO NOT want Nic Cage and his giant forehead screwing this up.

The question still stands. Did you see the movie?

If they answered that question in the movie and I have no idea how Captain America looks the same in his movie and in the Avengers movie then it should be quite obvious that I haven't seen the recent Captain America movie.

The one in the Avengers movie is his grandson.

Marvel doesn't have Spidey's movie rights so he couldn't be in here anyway.

They did but John Lackey at the original script because he thought it was chicken wings. They had to rewrite it quickly and didn't have time to put him in. Fucking Red Sox.
