Mark Lawrence Bavis and Garnet Ace Bailey were scouts for the LA Kings and were on the plane that crashed into the south tower on 9/11. That is the 9/11 memorial in NYC.

Thanks. I knew it was the memorial but having moved to PA earlier in 2001, I never saw a lot of the coverage.

That definitely is a well done move.

Ummm. I'm sorry? I guess I'm not a hockey fan that I didn't recall this event from 10 years ago when I lived in another state. I guess I'm not a hockey fan that my crap ass roommate that year who owned the television would not allow me to put on any 9/11 coverage because "it wasn't his city and thus it's not his problem." and chuckled and said "that must suck" when I told him my friend's father died.

I think back then I was still rooting for the Islamabad bin Ladens, out of the PAHL (Pan-Arabian Hockey League). The league folded shortly after 9-11 - you know, war zone and all. Too bad, because they were really building up a nice rivalry with the Kabul Mullahs. During intermissions they would invite audience members down to the ice to shoot for a chance to blow up a Sbarro in Tel Aviv. Pretty wild stuff.

Also, JK, your roommate deserves to be punched in the dick. 9/11 was and is every American's problem, regardless what state someone lives in. Almost every American has been touched in some way by either the initial attack or the war that followed. Almost everyone has lost either a family member or a friend or knows someone who did. Just, what a cruel, heartless statement. Ugh.

I'm resisting the urge to derail this thread completely with a "where were you on 9/11?"

Every year that passes, I realize more and more how naive I was back then and how much I didn't understand the impact of that horrible day.

I am someone who is a very peaceful person. I've been in exactly one fight in my life in 6th grade. But that was probably the only time in my life I truly wanted to hurt someone. On 9/11 I ended up going across to another person's room and while everyone was watching the coverage, he was playing online games and watching Comedy Central.

So when I get people like Bleedin saying I must not be a hockey fan? Yeah, kinda touches a nerve. If 9/11 wasn't bad enough, being unable to call home to make sure my dad didn't go through WTC to work that day, not knowing if my neighbors and friends parents were alive, I had to deal with that crap that day and ones following.

And KOD, don't feel bad. In varying degrees we were all naive to a moment like that ever happening. Hell, I was in Baltimore this weekend and upon leaving the inner harbor festivities the Blue Angels arrived to do a show. As we were going to our car and driving out on the city you'd hear them arrive and do fly overs and such. I just cannot begin to imagine the terror and fear people have to go through having several dozens of those jets dropping bombs miles away.

Can we not go down this road. Please? No one wins these arguments.

Blue was trying to say it was a national story, but not everyone remembers it. It's not a national travesty that they don't. Just look at that picture and realize that someone remembered them and went out of their way to honor them and it was a poignant moment. I still tear up every time I look at that photo. My Dad knows the family (he worked in tower 1 and survived and people in his firm got him in contact since he donates to the charity every year now), and he was very moved by the photo. That's really all that matters here.

We're really going there I guess? Really?

I'll keep taking the bait and falling on said sword. I really didn't see the harm having the unbelievable audacity to ask what the photo was about.

I really don't understand what a google search would have done when I had no idea why people were posting "sniffles" over this photo.

I guess I should be banned for being so insensitive to ask such a mean spirited question.

I didn't know about it. I saw the picture and thought one of the names was a Kings fan and his family went and put the hat there.

I had no idea there was an actual story relating to the team connected to the photo at all. Only now that people are saying they worked for the Kings does it slightly ring a bell.

I have many connections to that time, two employees for an NHL team are not one of them. That's not a knock on anyone here, I'm just not at all surprised that fellow die hards, who mostly live in the area and probably have direct connections, aren't aware immediately of the story when seeing the photo.

Yeah, I knew about Bavis and Bailey Kings connection but then again I am older than 99.99% of the members in Rangerland. I was 46 on 9/11 so I'm sure I paid attention to the event in a different way than most of you who were much younger at the time.

Then you should have forgotten about it before we did.

It took me a couple of seconds to make the connection as I didn't remember their names. At first I was a little confused. It then I remembered that two members of the Kings died on 9/11. A quick Google search confirmed that those were the two guys.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT GUY WHO WAS INVOLVED WITH FRASIER!

I'll weigh in on the "thought that the whole Ace Bailey thing was common knowledge" side, but not in a douchey way.
