I'm pretty sure I'm undefeated with the few I've started and it would be nice to take a 3-1 lead going into game five at the Garden.

So of all people, it's the two coaches providing the "hate" in this series. I'm curious to see if the players tonight bring that animosity to the ice. My guess is no, but this is the last time in the series you probably could seem some fists fly.

Too much at stake for the players to get stupid. If this was the first round? Absolutely you'd see some stupid shit. Rangers are two wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals. The Devils are two losses away from ending their season. I have no doubt in my mind that the Devils will come out and hit the Rangers as hard as they can tonight and try to goad them into taking stupid penalties. But the hits will be clean.

What's really annoying though is you will be replacing Prust with Stu Bickel. So while Prust hasn't done much at all this series, we are going to lose a fairly decent defensive forward and replace him with a guy that will probably get 4 shifts.

Why they won't put in Newbury, a veteran forward to step in is beyond me. I realize there are systems, but going through training camps and being in the Rangers organization during all of Torts's tenure, you'd think he'd still be a better fit than a rookie who is a natural d-man.

In retrospect, it'd be nice to have Rozi on this team considering the guy we traded him fore isn't here and is likely going to be boarding a plane to Russia.

I don't fault the trade at all. But as it turned out, he could be quite valuable as our 6th d-man.

Oh I don't deny that. But....we ended up this year with $3.8 million being wasted. This is a Game 4 thread so I don't want to divert too much. Just thought of that list Rozi could have served a purpose with our current 6th man getting as much ice time right now than Brandon Prust got in a period.

If you count playoff games Stu Bickel has played 1 more game than Kris Newbury at the NHL level.
EDIT: If you don't count playoff Games Stu Bickel still has 1 more career point than Newbury. In 16 less games.

This game is fun! Especially since Kris Newbury is an AHL lifer who hasn't played more than 28 games in a season at the NHL level and Stu Bickel is technically a rookie!

EDIT EDIT: This means nothing because they both aren't good NHL players. Just needed that to be thrown out there.

It amazes me that 2 years ago we were having guys like Jody Shelly and Jokinen try to lead us into the playoffs.

One thing that continues to excite me, and someone said this in another thread is that we're scratching the surface when it comes to the potential of some players.

Others are just now going to enter their prime years.

And even our "old" players still have 4-6 years left.

If the Rangers don't botch up the Cap, this should be one of several prime years to come beavisnbutthead.gif

Time for our dominating, best in the playoffs of all remaining teams, powerplay (hehe) to lead us to a hard fought 2-0 victory!

As long as the league keeps a hard cap, I have more faith than ever right now we'll either A) keep most, B) trade them for useful assets or C) find decent replacements.

I don't know if Sather is allowing others in the organization to handle the team. I think I've heard (from here?) that the scouting department has changed in recent years.

But I look at this team, the decent year the Whale had and prospects in the pipeline and you have a quality organization up and down that is being built.

The Rangers may lose tonight and this series, and I will go all "Team Negative" about this year's team. But one thing I've maintained is I think our best years are still ahead of us. I mean, I've seen this team for over 20 years now, and the only two rookies that to me, have been as exciting as Hagelin and Kreider were Tony Amonte and Tony Granato.

The fact that list doesn't include Mc D, MDZ and Stepan who are all under 23 is awesome.

You'll go Team Negative about a team that won its conference and has a lead (by however small a margin) in the Conference Finals? Are we talking like "rational future moves from here," or "what this highly successful team should have done differently?" Because if it's the latter, making plans for that seems a bit much.

Well, the Rangers proved to be closer to a Cup than many people thought. I think adding a solid d-man and a top six scoring forward will really make this team a lot better.

Sykora out, Josefson in for the Devils.

Interesting...

I've been thinking more balanced scoring from third line and more offensive zone work and a few goal from 4th line would be the thing.

See, I was just thinking the complete opposite of jkman...and how if they end up losing from here on out I would still consider this year a success...even being a part of team positive. Additional wins >10 are icing folks.

The playoffs being what they are, just making the conference finals is my yardstick. In the ECF? Success!

I can't look at it like that yet. I am in "win now" mode.

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

I obviously want to win. But anything critical I have to say would be "what can we do going forward," not "this is what they should have done."

Last time I checked we are still playing and have 2W to go to make the SCF people. Can we focus on the offseason in the, you know, offseason?

If Philly, Boston or Pitt were still in it I'd say yes. But with it being the Devils and the Rangers being the #1 seed in the East they need to win the Conference.
