I will update this post with more info (schedules, arbitration dates) as it becomes available. Talk about the off-season non-Ranger drafts/trades/signings here as well.

Salary Cap - $64/48m
Entry Draft - Friday, June 24
Contracts expire/free agency - Friday, July 1

Someone told me that ESPN is reporting Bryzgalov seven years at $50M???? What did Holmgren smoke and sniff if that is true?

Puck Daddy says the call came down direct from Ed Snider for this one, if it turns out to be true. Snider wants his fucking goalie and he wants it now.

Oh please please please let that be true! I would love for the Flyers to sign him for $7million at 7 years. LOVE IT.

Say buhbye to Carter. Say Buhbye to that piece of shit Hartnell. I love it. Ruin your team Snider. RUIN IT FOR A MEDIOCRE GOALIE!!!

While I share the above sentiment, I'm just afraid if it actually works. If Boston then Philly won the cup in consecutive years (even if I was forced to root for Boston) it would be so god awful. Maybe Jeff Carter was the reason they Flyers would always lose...

I hope so, but they're so deep at forward, losing one or two of them for a good goalie could also turn them into a consistent powerhouse.

Not for long; with Pronger and Timonen aging rapidly, I'd think that could be scary. They're going to have a lot of holes to fill in 2012-13 and not a lot of space to do it.

Pronger is going to be 37 this October. The rest of the Flyers defensive corp doesn't scare me. It should however scare Bryzgalov. I agree with Wyshynski that he's likely (more than actually) the product of a defensive system. And not that good a product either. Career .916 SV% and 2.53 GAA. Sorry, not really worried about this guy going to the Flyers. Those animals in Philly will have him curled up in a corner of the locker room wishing he went to Winnipeg instead.

Can you imagine the Rangers signing such an overrated player to a 7-year, $7 million per contract??? HAHAHAHA!!

You guys. What are you excited about? Philly just got a goalie. That's all they needed to make a deep run. We're fucked. I know the contract is stupid, but it doesn't change the fact that they are more of a force to reckon with. Great. Jerks.

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

Look I agree. I'm scared of Philly, they are a lock for the top spot in the East if this is true. But the problem is adding a 7 million dollar contract makes them even more cap fucked then they are now. Someone's got to go. But who?

Richards? Probably not.
Carter. The most logical choice, and apparently of all teams Phoenix was interested him in a draft day trade.
Hartnell. Gone, most likely.
Van Riemsdyk? Could be, he is going to get a raise. How much? Can it work? When is he going to be a Rangers?
Leino is a UFA so he's basically gone (hint hint Glen)
Carle? Hope he leaves it'll weaken their d

As said Pronger and Timmonen are getting old. This is like the Phillies banking on older pitchers. Could work in the short term, but not a good long term solution.

AKA We're fucked.

EDIT: I just forgot about Giroux. Who I would love to see traded, but I doubt he will be. Didn't he sign an extension?

Sounded like the JG Wentworth commercial there. "It's my money and i need it now!"

That is an insane amount for Bryzgalov. They're nuts.

Good call Nilan on Boucher. Bryzgalov has stunk in the playoffs thus far.

As for trading Carter, only if the return is a top five pick in this year's draft.

I think the Flyers will wait for the NHL to make the $64M cap official so it gives them more room to work with. Right now it is still at $59.4M and they cannot exceed that. But, the Flyers don't have it too hard in terms of deal away players because the ones most likely to be traded are well talented and would garner a lot of interest around the league. The only issue for the Flyers is that these players to be traded will in return give draft picks, prospects, and bottom roster players costing no more than $700k.

Philly really has to cut Leighton and Shelley loose, that would be over $2M freed up. Laperriere will retire and he is off the books, so add a bit over $1M there. Vertseeg and either Matt Carle or Braydon Coburn would be dealt as well. The two combined equal between $6M to $7M of cut cap. I think Carcillo will be cut. So, Philly will have the cap space, still two strong scoring lines, and the rest will be a bit thin, but they'll manage.

I think this is a huge mistake, though. I understand a goalie is badly needed for this team, but not at such a high cost in salary, cap hit, length of contract, and loss of depth.

A lot of moves will be made this off-season, though. Right off the bat you have the Rangers, Flyers, Canucks, and Toronto having to make big decisions. You have the Isle's and Panthers with a ton of cap room. The Capitals will have to make a move for maybe a goalie or to strengthen the squad.

It could be a news filled two weeks ahead starting Friday. Some good trades and drafting by the Rangers and Panthers would be a nice birthday present for moi. Come on Slats! Make me happy.

I'm mostly just sad that I have to hate him now. At least we'll get to hear more of his interviews. From Puck Daddy:

This reminds me of something I keep meaning to ask Melvin. Did Laviolette switch goalies more than his socks with the Islanders because even in Carolina he did that quite a bit? I just think Bryzgalov will let in a few in one game and he will panic and Boucher will be in. I wonder if the Philly fans have gotten to him at times. The whole the roof is collapsing because of one goal. A goalie can't get much rhythm or confidence if he knows he is getting pulled after one goal. I'm not saying they're great back there but I don't think he's helping.

That's if you subscribe to "Bryzgalov is good" newsletter. I don't. He's an average goalie and from what I've read today, a goalie that can get rattled. Good luck in Philly Ilya! I'm sure those fans will be real good to you.

Also, regarding their depth at forward, I think Carter AMD Giroux are their two best players and if you take away one of the two Flyer opponents will be better off for it.

Sources say under Bettman’s proposal, the league will have four divisions: Pacific, Midwest, East and South.

Hmm.

East: Montreal, Boston, Ottawa, NYR, NJD, NYI, Philly, Washington
South: Carolina, Florida, TB, Dallas, Nashville, St. Louis, Columbus

Midwest: Pittsburgh, Colorado, Detroit, Toronto, Buffalo, Chicago, Minnesota, Winnipeg
Pacific: LA, Anaheim, San Jose, Vancouver, Phoenix, Edmonton, Calgary

Or swap Columbus and Colorado.

Hard to do it any other way. But I'm sure every team will complain no matter what.

Oof, potentially moving THREE West teams into the East? That's gonna piss a LOT of current Eastern Conference teams off because they'll have to end up going West. Unless, they do a North-South thing.

Any way you try to do this you either end up with all the marquee teams in two divisions, or you completely ignore geography, making the idea of "East," South" etc. a joke.

Yeah, you're right. It's a very difficult situation for sure. You move Detroit and you lose their rivalry with the Hawks. You move the Leafs and you lose their rivaly with the Habs and Sens. It's tough.

flyers trade jeff carter to columbus for jakub voracek, 1st round pick (8th overall), and 3rd round pick. solid return for flyers who needed to clear cap room to sign bryzgalov. watch them pick the guy we want the rangers to take tomorrow.

Meh. They still have to go flip the "is this guy gonna be any good" coin with the #8 pick. They're still losing a guy who scored 115 goals in the last three seasons.

Well they'll get to hate on Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn now. Done deal according to Dreger.

Holy fuck. Why couldn't we flip Gabo for them?

Well maybe because Schenn won't survive Philly. Always wondered why he didn't crack LA's roster last year.
