Body in the bullpen. Cool I guess. He's tall.

According to Sherman we have a trade in the works (price is too high for Bailey apparently, but I wouldn't rule him out) and are going to sign another reliever.

And they signed Frank Francisco.

I don't really understand what the Mets are doing.

Mets trade Angel Pagan to the Giants for Ramon Ramirez and Andres Torres.

Building up the bullpen it seems.

I'm sure Rauch and Francisco are thrilled to be in the same bullpen again after their stint in Toronto.

With Parnell, Ramirez, Rauch and Francisco you guys are set up for a pretty solid bullpen. Torres sucks though.

I just don't understand spending $6 million on Frank Francisco when you're lineup and rotation is terrible.

Because they viewed the bullpen as their biggest weakness. Unfortunately they also have no starting pitching and now with no pagan I couldn't tell you whose batting lead off. From Jose Reyes to who??

Love this team right now

Torres the guy they just traded for. Most likely.

Look we aren't making the playoffs. I've accepted it, but the team isn't going to be the worst in the league.

RA Dickey is much better than you give him credit for, hopefully Gee doesn't regress though he might, Santana hopefully recovers, Pelfrey is going to be a 4th starter and an inning eater, the Mets probably have a shot at signing Chris Young who looked great before shoulder surgery and could be this year's Capuano, Matt Harvey could be on this team by July at the earliest as he'll be starting in AAA, same with Mejia who was with the team 2 years ago, Jeryus Familia is a year away, and apparently the Mets are in on Buerhle.

Granted the lineup is not the same without Jose, but Daniel Murphy was batting .320 and 4th in the NL when he went down. That's not a bench player. Reuben Tejada made significant improvements, and looks much better.

We aren't a playoff team. But 75 wins is not out of the question again. Possibly more.

RA Dickey had one great season and met fans fell in love with him. Last season was way more indicative of his talent than. 2 years ago.

Daniel Murphy is a bench player because of his fielding, not because of his hitting. You'd think tHat would make him a good dh in the al, but he isn't a power hitter.

You had the same "if this and if that and if we all believe in fairytales they can finish over .500!" and I laughed at you then and you got all bent out of shape. And now I'm laughing at you now for the majority of the "ifs" you posted above.

You're in a division with the Phillies, Braves and an ever improving Marlins team. Unless the Mets pull a rabbit outta their ass they wont crack 75.

For this roster it is.

Also, RA had a 3.28 ERA last year and actually got no run support. That isn't an excuse, most pitchers don't go 8-13 with a 3.28 ERA. No one is asking him to post 2 years ago number, if he's consistent again with that he's a good 3rd starter. Which he is. If you want more, you're crazy.

Career ERA outside Mets: 5.43
Career ERA with Mets: 3.08

And he's had more starts with the Mets than every other team he's played with, so he sucked as a reliever if you want to get me on small sample size. Also, he's a great locker room presence and everyone loves him, so if you want to call a 3rd starter with a 3.28 ERA in the NL a fluke whatever man.

Unfortunately he'll be a 2nd starter with this team unless Gee takes a big step forward, so yes there's that.

They need 2 quality starters to be competitive. The offense isn't terrible, and Murphy will be in a platoon with Turner who looked good last season. Which plays to both of their strengths and he'll make improvements hopefully. Ike Davis will be healthy, and Lucas Duda looks to be legit. We can't pray Jason Bay gets his head out of his ass even though he showed flashes, albeit very brief, of better than mediocrity last year.

I expect this team to be in games even if they aren't going to set the world on fire. All towards looking forward. Hopefully some of these pitching prospects pay off. We got 4 ones with potential to be 1 or 2 starters.

Sherman said Ike was a mistake. Shopping Niese only. Which is a mistake. Because I forgot about him (which was retarded on my part) when discussing the rotation. He is one of the few guys we have that has been looking like he is getting better. Which is probably why they will trade him.

Strong rumors that the Mets are in discussions with the Philadelphia Phillies about trading David Wright to Philadelphia.

This says otherwise

http://www.metsblog.com/2011/12/22/the-met...trade-deadline/

Plus if that happens its for one year (the option year gets voided if he's traded.) We're not competing so I could swallow it for one year maybe. Plus the Phillies have traded a bunch of their prospects away so I doubt it happens. He'll be on the Rockies at the deadline.

Lets listen to a Rockies beatwriter about this.

The Phillies still have a top heavy farm system. Brown, Vorley etc. Not likely to happen but the fact they would be open to it should make Mets fans burn Citi Field to the ground.

Did you guys see post on Metsblog?

QUOTE
“Sports teams do not always make money, and debt is a legitimate way to fuel their growth, as it is in real estate, where Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz, the Mets’ owners, made their money and reputations. … But the Mets worry Major League Baseball enough to be seen as a troubled franchise on a short tether. They owe $430 million to a group of lenders that is due in 2014. Their $25 million loan from M.L.B. is past due and repayment has been extended. They recently borrowed $40 million from Bank of America. … Their network, SNY, is also heavily leveraged, to the tune of $450 million, a loan that must be repaid in 2015. And the Mets’ Citi Field bond payments leapt from $19 million last year to $43.7 million. … That is a lot of borrowing for a team that lost $70 million last season and had faltering attendance.”

Mets may sign Rick Ankiel apparently? That would be an upgrade in our bench. Whatever 20 days til Pitchers and catcher report. Get excited for 100 losses!

Taylor Bucholtz is out for 2012 with depression.

He was fine before pitching in Queens.

No he was suffering from Depression with the Rockies as well. I know you were crackin' a joke because I'd be depressed if I had to put that uniform on right now, but he was suffering before he got here.

Bullpen session from Zach Wheeler. Holy fuck I cannot wait to see this guy in Double AA this year. He should bein Buffalo with Matt Harvey by the end of the year too, but if he needs the full year in Binghampton, that's fine.

Pretty much. I also read Metsblog, Deadspin, Rangerland links, posting and toasting, the Connecticut Whale website, Mets Minor League blog, and links my Dad sends me on the Giants, Knicks, and Rangers daily.

Its really not much. Also, doing Fantasy hockey and football makes me keep up with the leagues.

Also, I know the Mets system pretty well, since its a summer sport with nothing else going on.

Are you kidding? He posts like he is on a cocaine run. I picture him twitching and running around like a squirrel with Rangerland and 28 other browsers open with papers about his favorite teams minor league systems tossed around on the floor, math equations on the walls determining how much praise he can give someone before jinxing them(bye bye Zach Wheeler) and muttering "cant go cant go I have crew practice in the library cant go"

I wish I had the ability to animate this, because it would be awesome.

RIP Gary.

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike
