Anyone here pay particular attention to the English national team? Why does everyone seem to hate Frank Lampard these days? I mean, all I read is that people don't like his (lack of) chemistry with Gerrard. Is there more to it than that? I haven't heard anything outside of the chemistry issue. Who are you referring to when you say 'everyone'? Maybe it's the English anti-Chelsea fans? But bottom line, they're struggling in the Euro 2008 qualifying and fingers are being pointed. And they're gonna be out for blood if they don't qualify. Didn't they tie Macedonia in England? Sad. |

Why do teams call themselves "real"? I understand Real Madrid, stemming from the ugly incident in 1966 when terrorists stole their uniforms, played their match against Uruguay and confused the hell out of everyone. But Real Salt Lake City city? Was there confusion as to which Salt Lake City they might be referring to?
Also, where does USA Chivas play? Do they have a home field, or do they just show up drunk and surly to a random town, take it over for a weekend, play a soccer match and move on? I think hockey should embrace this idea. I would totally root for the American Jagermeisters.

I still haven't been able to find out where Chivas plays, but your suppositions are most likely correct. MLS is a joke. Real Salt Lake just reeks of "Hey, we're a real soccer team! Promise!". Then again, I wouldn't doubt a town full of Mormons thinking they were royalty... |

I don't know if it's really luck. They had a huge possession advantage and were a Beckham post away from being tired much earlier. Shame on Barca is really all it comes down to. |

You a Barca fan or Real hater? You're definitely one of the two judging by the last two posts Well... both. That's like asking me if I'm a Yankee fan or a Red Sox hater But seriously, I only have one reason to not like Real besides the fact that they're rivals with Barca, and that's because that fruitcake Nadal loves them so much. Asshat. |

Barcelona had its chance last week and lost when they allowed Espanyol to tie the game in the last minute. Yesterday, Mallorca had some serious "incentive" to make it tough on Real, but Gymnastic practically laid like a cheap prostitute. What soem of you may not know is that Real had some deamons to put away. Twice in the '90s they when into the last game at the top of the board only to lose the the game and the championship. tenerife was the team both ocassions. Did Real play well yesterday, absolutely not, but they pull it out more on guts than on talent, something they are not known for very well. They irony of yesterday game is that the 2 players that had a lot of doing in the 3 goals came into the game because of injuries to Van Nistelrooy (Higuain) and Beckman (Reyes). If those changes don't occur, the player likely to get sub was going to be Robinho, the guy that made a tremendous play on the equalizer. As talented as team Real has had these past years, it has not translated to the winning column. That clubhouse was ran by the players, and until Capello came, they did whatever they wanted. Ronaldo was fat and Fabio had enough balls and power to tell him to find another team (he went to Milan). Guti, an idol to the Real fans was sent to the bench. Casillas, the incumbent for the team and Spain national team, was told to compete for the goalie job with Lopez. Selguera, who played yesterday at right full back, was sent to the bench.
You look at Barcelona and compare the situation and have to shake your head when you read over the weekend that Ronaldinho admited being not in optimum shape this season. Whose fault was that? The player? Sure, but don't you think that Rikaard should have asserted his authority and sat him down until he was in proper conditioning? -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. Capello is rumored to be replaced because he wants it his way and with the players he likes. In futbol all over the world, is very well known of situations where the administrators meddle in what the lineup should be on Sunday. Adminsitrations usually have several factions with the respective favorite players, which usually translate in pressuring to play certain players. Real Madrid is not the exception. You add the fact that Cannavaro, a Capello foundation pillar, is rumored to want to go back to Juventus. The Real Madrid adminstration is set to offer Milan a truck load of $$ for Kaka. And in reading Capello's style of play, do you wonder if they are acting with Fabio's blessing? umm..........
With all the pressure of coaching a team like Real, if I am going to stick out my neck, I would do it like Fabio's and do it my way. At least in that manner if the ship goes down, it wasn't anybody else's fault, but mine. -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. I never liked Capello too much, but he can get a team to win somehow. Cannavaro back to Juve? Where did you hear that?
I know Real offered nearly e80M for Kaka`, which is ridiculous. -------------------- ![]() |

I'm fairly certain the US has recently trounced Canada, something like 6-0. It was a few weeks ago. I think you're talking about the women's team. The usa beat canada 6-2 back in May. I think the last time the men's teams played each other, it was a 0-0 tie back in January. |

Argentinian club Boca Juniors won 2-0 (global 5-0) at Brazil's Gremio in very hostile Porto Alegre last night to capture the Libertadores Cup. It is the 4th Cup in this decade so far!!! I'm telling you, I've been watching futbol for a long time, but have not witnessed the hostile environment Boca and its fans faced the last 2 days in Porto Alegre. Absolutely dangerous. I think the ref must to have lost his booking cards in the 1st period. There were some serious dangerous tackling going on by Gremio's players that should have resulted in a couple of send offs, or at the very least some warnings. In fairness to the ref, if he would have send off a Gremio player, the probability was hight that he wasn't going to get out of the stadium alive. The pressure put upon the refs in Libertadores Cup is enormous. In the hey days of the Colombina cartels, refs were very worry to referee games in Bogota, Cali, and especially Medellin. Even clubs from Brazil and Argentina were afraid to play in those cities. It was very well known that the cartels were financing America, Deportivo Cali and Atletico National de Medellin. In the hope of not making the trip, I knew of Argentinian players that would come up with phantom injuries.
In any event, Boca's Riquelme was the tournament's MVP and displayed reasons why at the moment is the best Argentinian player. Yet, come Copa America, he may not have a starting slot in the National team. -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. AC Milan and Inter Milan are being investigated for false accounting. Man, Serie A sucks at being corrupt. You're not supposed to get caught, guys!

False accounting goes on everywhere in futbol and is not just something common to the Calcio. The 2 primary reasons are:
1.- To stiff players out their just proper transfer fee. 2.- For tax purposes. The lower the transfer value, the less taxes you pay. A third reason is the thiefs running these club that are pocketing the revenues. Another reason for "shady" accounting is to have the next administration assume a debt higher than reported. This is a common trait in South America where administration are changed sometimes in a yearly basis. Clubs' administration do not know the meaning of the word audit. Well known clubs like River Plate (just an example), who are always transferring players to Europe at millions of dollars, have been known to be heavily in debt that their stadium were in the danger of being repossed by the the local government. -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. U.S. wins 2-1 over Canada with a dramatic finish - Canada had a goal disallowed in the 95th minute. Wish I'd managed to catch it.

I hope Inter loses the scudetto, even if it goes to Roma. Seria A has become an embarrassment.....but most of soccer is nowadays anyway.
US got lucky, that was no off-sides, as ruled, not even close. Canada played the second half well and Hume's goal was beautiful. -------------------- ![]() |

So Gold Cup pits U.S. vs Mexico, right? Come on gringos, the South of the border boys are just ripe for a beaten right now. I mean, how in the world did Guadalupe manage to bogged them down? Those Jamaican wannabes are no better than some of those clubs that play every Sunday at Flushing Meadow Park here in Queens, NY. I will puke if I see U.S. playing with 5 defenders and 3 defensive midefielders.

So they are basically swapping Henry for 'Eto, right? Samuel is a much better finisher than Henry.

Canada got robbed. Game should been tied and they would've played extra time a man up. But good to see some good competition in CONCACAF. Hopefully not just US vs Mexico in the future.
US is gonna have to step it up for Copa America. They play Argentina next Thursday against a stacked lineup. Messi, Crespo, Tevez, Requelme. Can't wait. http://www.copaamerica.com/default.asp?pag...cias&id=416 |

Here's the roster for the US for Copa America. No Donovan, Gooch, Boca, Beasley, Dempsey, Howard, Hejduk, Bradley. Well, at least the youth are gonna get some experience....getting their butts kicked. Still should be interesting...I'm sick of seeing Pablo and Boca.

I don't think Tim Howard should be fatigued. Hell, the coach's son isn't even playing. Interesting that you're sick of Bocanegra - I'm sick of Frankie Hejduk. He's like the Ryan Hollweg of soccer. With this lineup, Argentina could beat us with Messi and a goalkeeper. |

When I saw the list on the Spanish channel, my chin hit my toes. The Johnson kid is going to wish he was left home too. -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. is the game on now? what channel? It's on Fox Soccer Channel if you travel backwards in time. The US just won the Gold Cup. -------------------- |

That was a fun game. Great save by Howard towards the end.
Dempsey and Beasley are full of themselves. |

Great game. Feilhaber with the goal of the tournament. World class. So far, a good replacement for Reyna.
Castillo for Mexico played a great game as well. Only have to wait a couple of days to see Copa America. |

I'm glad Mexico didn't score late to tie it - we might have had to have Beasley killed.

I am happy USA won, but at the same time the positive result gives credence to Bradley's scheme of starting 5 on defense (Bocanegra, Mastreoni, & Oneywu in the middle), midfield with 2 defensive midfielders 1 offensive (Donovan) and 1 mix (Dempsey), and one lone striker (Ching). Their 2 fullback hardly ever went on the attack and Beasly was what we in South America call a "lying" midfielder. That is, one that on paper is called upon that role, but spents an awful lot of time defending. Eve with this scheme, Mexico's coach Hugo Sanchez was an idiot for not starting either Blanco or Bautista. Sanchez respected USA way too much. When Borgetti went out with hamstring injury, he had the chance to mitigate his mistake and insert any of those 2 guys, yet he went with Bravo, another small striker. Didn't he realize that USA 3 central defenders were big, but slow. In Guardado and Castillo, he had the men necessary to open the field for someone in the middle like Bautista. On top of that, Bocanegra and Mastreoni had been booked. Something that Mexico failed to take advantage of. Another thing, Mexico won just about every air ball in USA's defensive box and never took advantage of.
Just like Beasley deserved to get killed, so did Ching. He did the most difficult task of getting around the Mexican defender and the goalie and had only to push it in. I want it USA to beat Mexico and shut Sanchez mouth, but let's not kid outserlves, Bradley is not a soccer genius. And if I am Dempsey, I would be piss off at the change. Strategically or situation wise, it made no sense whatsoever. -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedom, it will be because we destroyed ourselves"
