Gauging interest - this has been a pretty fun league for me the last few years. Who's interested?

Anything we would like to tweak about this season's format? I know we've all discussed trying to find a way around the "get a shutout in your first game, lock down two categories" problem with goalies.

Also, I would personally like to see a rule instituted that if you can't make the draft, you either have to set picks, or you can't play. I don't mean to sound like a dick, and I appreciate that autodrafters in years past have tried to work with what they had, but the ESPN hockey autodraft is particularly terrible, and it sucks to have teams with guys on IR as their third- and fourth-round picks.

I'm in but I think you can make goalie stats only count depending on the amount of games played. We did this ESPN baseball on starting Pitcher starts. It kinda kills me and will change the dynamics of strategy and drafting but I am O.K. with it.

Let'em auto-draft but move them down to down in order or forfeit their #1 and # 2 picks or let them draft starting withe # 300 ranked player. If you remove drop them, You screw up the entire league unless you have Subs ready to go.

Also, I would like to do a full NHL League with ESPN and not Yahoo as I do not Like Yahoo's daily set-up.

What do you mean vett, add a category of # of games played, if possible? One thing we also discussed was adding a category for # of saves. This would make goalies even more important than they are now, which is tough given that there are only 4-5 good ones in the East, but it would balance out the stats a little more. Meaning, if you get a shutout win in your first start, by benching the goalie for the rest of the week, you run the risk of losing two stats (wins and starts/saves) instead of just one. Maybe this is all an overreaction, but it seemed like this happened fairly often last year.

Also, for any forum members who have signed up since last season, you are of course welcome. This is an Eastern Conference only league, with 10-12 teams. The idea being that we all know the East better, and tightening the list of available players makes you dig deep for value.

Not sure how this solves anything - the problem with autodraft, aside from ESPN's truly bizarre inflation of a player's value, is that they rank players on IR or who may not even play in the NHL pretty high. So people who autodraft wind up with players (like Okposo last year) who miss almost all of the season, but are for some reason ranked in the top 50 or so players, and thus wind up as fairly high picks.

You must be confused with a different league - we've been using ESPN since we started this.

I know we are ESPN just dropping hints for other readers.

. If your auto drafting getting IR or non players is the price you pay for not being at the draft. Harsh Maybe but that is the way it goes. Gotta set that Auto-Draft up right though or you might miss out on Crosby.

Obviously I'm in again, this is probably my favorite fantasy league.

As far as solving the goalie problem, instituting a minimum minutes or games requirement would probably solve that. Although it would have to only be two games or maybe three.

I still think we're overbooking the league if we do Eastern Conference AND inflate goalie values. Lundqvist/Miller/etc are already valuable as hell in this league, and watering down back-up/rotation guys is just going to make it harder. It's one thing to have studs and also-rans, and another to have diamonds versus bags of poop.

Unfortunately, there is no way to set minimum starts for goalies, unless we just want to make it an uncodified rule. One possible fix would be to add a minutes category for goalies, and add one or two more offensive stats to balance it out, like PP and/or SH points. That's assuming people think we need to change the goalie stats at all.

At this time, we're contemplating no major changes. The only thing I would want to push for is an auction, but I assume not everyone can make the auction and hence we'll never get everyone signed off on it.

Oh, and we've decided to leave the stats as is. The fix to the goalie "problem" I mentioned above is worse than the problem itself. If we add goalie stats, it makes them count even more in an already very limited pool, and there aren't a lot of good options to add for skaters to balance it out.

OK, jerks - two orders of business - first, roll call from last year - who's in again?

Kusand - in
Mike B. - in
Anaconda - in
toph - in
xcdude - in
vett - in
Dunc - in

Verddogg - in
toc93 - in
Bavoo - OUT
Leedsy - in
Rocha - ?

Ebase, blade - in if there's room

Let's hear from the five people who haven't weighed in yet, please.

Second, draft date - the season starts on Thursday 10/6. So it looks like the best date left is Tuesday, 10/4, at 9:30 p.m. EST. Would that work for everyone? Strong preference for that time/date unless there are a lot of conflicts.

Kind of surprised nobody mentioned it, but it shouldn't really be a problem if I am organized and ready. The only thing I'm worried about is a situation where all my contingency picks are not available.

Actually, I'd like to make the switch to a FAAB (Free Agent Auction Budget) system for waivers, if no one objects.

I'm not a huge fan of the "#1/2 picks sit on their waiver status all year waiting for the big trade" system we have. I think making it an auction system there could be neat.

For those unfamiliar, the general idea is you get a budget (100 fake dollars) each season to make pickups with. When you put in a waiver claim, you also add a bid value from 0-100. Highest bid gets the player, and pays out of their budget. Now when you make claims, there's a bit of strategy. Do you want to sit on your budget to wait for trades? Do you want to blow all 100 waiting for James Neal or whoever the big incoming guy is? Should you make little $1 and $2 bids to grab the latest hot player? Etc.

Leeds is in, so Rocha is the only person from last season who hasn't weighed in yet.

That makes 10 teams, pending Rocha's response, so Ebase, blade, Charlie (in that order) stay tuned, looks like we will have at least two spots available. If Rocha is in, we can go to 14 teams, which would be kind of nuts with an EC only league, but it's also pretty fun to be praying for value out of late season-AHL-callup-third-liners. If Rocha is out, then we'll probably only take two more people to make it a 12-team league.

Also, reminder, draft tomorrow, 10/4, 10 p.m. EST. I'll send out a reminder from the site once we have the league set.

Espn, Shows the Draft not scheduled and no just East only Draft helps for at least me ??

We didn't schedule it yet, as the league membership isn't set yet.

Rocha just confirmed, which means that we have the 11 players from last season, plus the three others that expressed interest in this thread. Ebase, blade, Charlie, just sent you guys PMs. 14 teams in an EC only league should be pretty interesting, to say the least.

Once again, we strongly urge you to make the draft and failing that, to please set your picks. You will see that the ESPN rankings are terrible. They often have players on long-term IR or not even signed yet (e.g., Streit, Okposo, Zherdev from last year) ranked inexplicably high, which means that if you don't set your picks you will wind up with a hurt player as your third-rounder. That sucks for everyone, as it means you will wind up with a very shitty team, and will be more likely to drop out.

Down with the Terror Mosque!!!

Mike Santorelli was second in goals on my team with 20 last year. Should be another interesting year of failed draft picks!
