That'd be awesome but a whole lot of work. 8 weeks of posts in this thread is a good 20 pages. Just started - not as tough as you'd think! -------------------- |

I appreciate that, as I missed most of the early discussion since I didn't start watching until around episode 6.
Another board I post on has two threads - one for those that read the books and one for those that didn't. Not a horrible idea, though I don't think we have enough viewers here on either side to warrant it. This is one of those rare series where that comes into play, though. I've done a good job avoiding spoilers and was caught by surprise when Ned gave up his honor for his children last night. |

Pretty sure I would of done the same in his shoes...except...I would have hesitated to trust Cersei or Joffrey. Which I don't think he did based on his convos with chubby in the dungeon. I think when he saw Sansa and she nodded her head at him led him to believe for a split second that maybe they will hold their word. |

I think when he saw Sansa and she nodded her head at him led him to believe for a split second that maybe they will hold their word. In fairness they were. Faux Linda Hamilton was completely willing to avoid war, and thought making him a servant would send a better message. The entire stage erupted in chaos when little know-nothing announced his decision. Faux Linda Hamilton was mortified and desperately trying to stop it. Which is why the capturing of Kingslayer is that much more interesting. Maybe now, too, we'll find out the secret of his blow dryer. I'm thinking he must keep an elephant in his tent like he's a Flinstone. |

Yea I think part of the deal as well (according to chubby) was that Ned would make Robb back off from coming to King's landing. Joffrey wanted to demonstrate his "new" power more than actually think through the consequences of his decision. You would think FLH discussed this with him. |

But the smug-faced punk bastard suddenly called an audible. And Kingslayer is a helluva great nickname. If you have no honor, that is. As far as Jaime's hair goes, I think both he and Sansa found a secret stash of ultra-condtioner and won't give up it's location for anything. I still wonder if Ned actually saw Arya in the distance? He did. But yeah, as I mentioned on page 2 the little Backstreet Boy thought he was doing osmething that would demonstrate his power, and under certain conditions doing something like that would certainly end all questions, but given an army outside your walls it was probably a poor choice. If he wasn't such a brat he'd realize that. Oh, well, the woman from 300 kind of deserves it for raising him so poorly. And for giving him really very little chance from his gene pool. |

So um yeah I just started watching it with the episode where Ned died and am already hooked, so is there a way to watch the earlier episodes? Supposedly you can do it on HBO.com, does anyone have experience with that?

If you have HBO at home, you can log into hbogo.com with the account info from whatever company provides your service. For me that is DirecTV.

I suggest watching with special features enabled. It's very helpful with reminding you who the hell people are and where they heck they are.
Considering you meet about 40 different people by episode 2. This post has been edited by Eric: Jun 14 2011, 07:12 PM -------------------- 5-hole.com

Fucking E-entertainment went and blabbed all about how shocking that plot twist was, ruining it for people who hadn't seen it yet (like my dad).
Nevertheless, they raised a good point: killing off the most recognizable face and the "protagonist" may cause people to quit watching. Obviously it had to happen to remain faithful to the source material, but it is still a good point. This post has been edited by Knight of Dight: Jun 14 2011, 09:21 PM -------------------- |

Spoiler alert but this becomes a major conflict in book four when Jon has a bad hair day up at the Wall as Sam frantically searches through Maester Aemon's archives for the formula of the conditioner. /nerdalert |

I think the little to none battle scenes in GOT will help keep it around for many seasons. Rome was a great show but was cut short due the cost of the battles and cgi. Producers here are doing what they can to keep this series around to tell the whole story. Especially when the "3 new additions" to the cast come....that will be a bit costly.

Still don't have any idea what you're talking about. You realize this is based on a book series and that this is season 1, book 1. If you want major spoilers, there are GoT forums full of info. Right now, since all of us aren't caught up, let's keep the discussion to the TV show. -------------------- QUOTE When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?' --Don Marquis (1878 - 1937) |

I have a request for this thread. It's gonna seem like a very obvious thing but please bear with me.
Can everyone please refrain from posting any content from the books that comes after the most current episode of the show? You want to complain about something they left out? Go for it. Do you want to compare an episode with what happened in the book? Knock yourself out. Just please don't discuss stuff that happens later. Not all of us have read the books. -------------------- 5-hole.com

Ahhhh, I get it. I thought he was referring to actors they added in the next season.
Yeah, since they're (apparently from what I've read about the show) following closely to the books please don't reveal stuff we haven't seen yet. This post has been edited by Knight of Dight: Jun 14 2011, 11:41 PM -------------------- |

That was awesome Was that the complete first book? I'm disappointed in the season's end. Not the last scene, not at all, as it feels like a complete arc for that story and absolutely perfect place/way to stop, and the cliffhanger for the Night's Watch is good enough, but the main storyline just kind of stopped. I guess, in fairness, it wasn't much touched upon in this episode, and last episode would have been a good place to end it, but it felt incomplete. I'm just annoyed I have to wait. |

This is why I'm going to start reading the books. The ending was great, but there has to be more to the rest of the storylines. King of the North? The men of the Nightwatch on the march? Arya and Robert's bastard son heading north? And poor Sansa. -------------------- QUOTE When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?' --Don Marquis (1878 - 1937) |

Ditto. Dude. Dragons. Friggin' dragons. Honestly, I was hoping those dragon eggs weren't dead stone. I got my wish. For better or worse, I got my wish. Now what? Well the name of the second book is "A Clash of Kings" So I think you know what the main storyline will be! |

And this entire episode felt like denouement after the climax that was the previous episode. -------------------- |

Dragon lady is fucking hot. And this entire episode felt like denouement after the climax that was the previous episode. It was. Most shows would end with the main storyline, but this show had to use the reactions to the main storyline to launch the conclusion of the other storylines. I still feel, though, that you probably could have put the final scene in the last episode and called the season there. It'd have been more satisfying. |

I was wondering more about the storyline involving Daenerys and the dragons. -------------------- QUOTE When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?' --Don Marquis (1878 - 1937) |

I agree, but I think tonight's episode was more of a build up for the start of next season. -------------------- ![]() QUOTE(ree @ Feb 20 2008, 12:11 AM) If only Sonny Corleone had EZ-Pass...... |

Things I learned:
1) That old dude likes whores, and is planning something by making everyone think he's frail and senile. Unfortunately I hardly remember him doing anything in the past to prove otherwise (hardly remember him doing much, period, kind of just remember him being there), but clearly that was the point of the scene. 2) Ned had another son! Who knew?! |

Spring 2012. So forever. That sucks. After a year, most people have forgotten the story. -------------------- |

That sucks. After a year, most people have forgotten the story. Well, it never really hurt The Sopranos, and they were probably closest to this with having random people floating in and out with such frequency that you forgot who did what and why their 5 minute scene pretending to ramble to a prostitute had any bearing on the plot. But yeah. So what summer TV is there now? True Blood comes back next week or something, but I haven't decided if I'll bother. I probably will, but I'm really hoping they finally have someone take a moment to tell Snookie that she's bipolar and only dead things can tolerate spending more than 30 seconds in her presence. Unfortunately ever character thinks she's a ray of sunshine so that seems unlikely. What else? Anything? |

It was resolved but I don't recall seeing a shooting schedule for next season. -------------------- QUOTE When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?' --Don Marquis (1878 - 1937) |
