15 awful seconds.

Oh yeah, Community and Psych also have awful, awful music.
And Sed, that most shows don't have openings makes the ones that do that much worse. Over the course of watching some of these shows you see those same 15-30 seconds hundreds of times. Watch a few episodes and a row and you just hear the music every 22 seconds.

Hate it. Most of them become nails on a chalkboard for me almost immediately.

Meh - I have Tivo. This hasn't been an issue for me for years.

Are you watching shows back to back on a DVR? That's probably why those awful theme songs irritate you so much. Most show openings are when I get up and walk away to do, anything, so I don't have to hear them. But the Venture Bros.? On this, you are WRONG, sir. nono.gif That opening is great. A throwback to those dramatic 60s and 70s TV theme show songs.

Well yeah, I fast forward through them, too, which is why I say I cringe when I hit a single note - DVRs obnoxious tendancy to think you're 3 seconds slow on the play button means it's annoying to time properly.

Ever notice that it doesn't think you're slow on the rewind all the time? Sometimes rewinding only a few seconds is borderline impossible.

It's not the music that bothers me so much in these intros, although a few seasons of The Wire had god-awful music. It's that they're too damn long.

Most shows don't really have themes the way that they used to - makes me sad sometimes.

I miss the days when you could sing along with show themes like Gilligan's Island. Even the instrumental ones had real character, and you knew them right away, like Hawaii Five-O, Gomer Pyle or Hogan's Heroes. Most shows don't bother with much of a theme any more because the advertising gurus have taken too much of the already limited plot time to sell us their newest Slap-Chop.

Plus the song is pretty good too.

I drove by Rockefeller Center on Saturday and instantly both me and my wife started doing the 30 Rock theme. Personally, I'd prefer it if shows had a slightly longer opening so that they could get the credits out of the way because when they play them through the show, the close captioning gets displayed on the top of the screen cutting off the the view. Fuck you I'm slightly deaf. What of it?

A display of Khal Drogo badassery is most welcome after last week's exhibition. He is somewhat poetic in dispatching his victims those who are ill-mannered in his presence, isn't he? If you want him to give you a golden crown, he'll give you a golden crown. If he wants you to hold your tongue, and you don't, he'll gladly hold it for you.

Game of Thrones

When I realized what was going to happen all I could think was Deadwood. The final episode I watched of Deadwood was the one in which Buffalo Bill bit it (if that's a spoiler you don't know your history.)
I don't see this being the same for me. At that point in Deadwood Buffalo Bill was the only character that was a character. He was the charisma of the entire show. That wasn't true here, where Sean Bean was solid but not exactly charismatic, as is how the character was written. The rest of the cast is so strong that it can survive without him, even if I neither expected this nor am happy about it. But I'm not happy in a "man, this show sucks without Sean Bean" way so much as it's the end of a character I think there was more about to tell.

Man, Joffrey is such a weasel. They've played that part of him well. The look he gave when Ned started his speech was pure little douchey arrogant weasel. So was this decision, as everyone around him begging him to stop knew. Yeah, it makes him look like a strong king, and under certain circumstances an action like this would end the power struggle and cement you as king, but with 20,000 troops bearing down it seems all knew this was unwise. All except Joffrey. Haha, Linda Hamilton, you did a shitty job raising him! At least you don't still breastfeed him I suppose.

Haven't read the books, in no rush to, but I'm assuming that there's no true time continuity between them. If this season is the entirety of the first book, I'd guess the next book takes place years later when some of these characters are a good deal older. I could be wrong. No one needs to correct me. I hope I'm wrong, as we'd lose the actress playing the youngest daughter.

And what happened to the Khal???
I can't wait until next week when the Starks find out Ned was executed, and the Lannisters find out the Starks have Tywin's Golden Boy, Jaime.

Now I'm going to crawl up into the fetal position until next Sunday.

No real time gap..will pick up where left off...which will make a easy transition into season 2.

I know Jamie isn't too into it, but Kingslayer is probably one of the most badass nicknames to have, even if it's said in derision.

Also, if you haven't read the books this show is a bit difficult to track who's who. Like the guy that held the youngest daughter at the end, have we seen him before? And the dude that follows Robb around and is in love with the ginger whore, didn't it come out that he was related to the mad king and should have hated the Starks? I occasionally see people and just flat-out forget who they are.

Though, in fairness, as it keeps going around you learn the alliegences quicker.

All we've been told about Theon is that he is a Greyjoy and he's sort of a prisoner/guest of the Starks because his family rebelled against Robert's reign. And most of that info came via Tyrion. It wasn't said that he was related to the Targaryens. Not yet, anyway.

The guy that held the youngest daughter at the end was a member of the Night's Watchmen named Yoren that we saw a couple episodes ago. He was in Kings Landing to gather new recruits. The only reason I know this is because I went onto HBO GO right after the episode and enabled the special features. Those things are awesome.

We really should have given this show its own topic. We'll regret that when Season 2 starts.

Did I notice foreshadowing of whatshername ending Joffrey?
And as amusing as it was that the imp got knocked out right as war began it was also a convenient way for HBO to save itself money and time in the show by not showing us any kind of battle. I was watching the NBA game at a bar last night and a preview for Conan came on and for a few seconds I thought we were going to see a huge battle in Game of Thrones, then just realized Conan is the same dude in the same costume, only now fighting stuff.

It was a bit disappointing that there was no battle scenes.

In the books Tyrion does actually fight...

Well, given that Bill died only a few episodes into the first season, I daresay you aren't really qualified to pass judgment on Deadwood if you didn't watch past that point.

A good moderator would take the 20 hours to skim the last 40 pages of the "Now Watching" thread to move all the Game of Thrones talk here...

You guys don't have jobs, right?

I do think the on-going series that more than a few people watch are better discussed in their own topic. Also, I think someone should edit the first thread to mention that HERE BE SPOILERS and people should only read this if they're up to date on the TV show, and if not only read to the date mark of the most recent episode they watched. That way nerds can use spoiler tags to discuss the books (although I always feel that these kind of threads should be acknowledged as spoilerriffic and not be an endless mouse-overing of spoiler tags.)

I'm in the process of doing it - will probably finish it in the next day or two when I get the time. It's actually moving pretty quickly, and I don't mind doing it since it looks like there's enough interest for this to warrant its own thread.
