I've noticed this becoming more a thing with fans around the league, but taunting the opposing goalie when he's given up one goal in 2 1/2 periods seems kind of silly to me.

Kovalchuk has about 22 minutes already, leading everyone by over three minutes. Can we please stop praising the coaching job of Peter Deboer? All he does is overplay his superstar and hope his goalie doesn't poop the crease.

Come on, that team is night and day different than they were last season. They're almost exactly like the Rangers but with a worse goalie.

Production problems aside, Brad Richards looks terrible tonight. I think he can't play with Callahan. Callahan is phenomenal down low on the cycle, but I don't think Richards is good at the same. He's spending way too much time behind the net.

His best shift tonight was when he was with Gaborik that led to the chance in front.

I see no harm trying Richards with Gabby for a handful of games.

That will be addressed next season. For this season, it is goaltending and defense.

Well, because of Pierre McGuire, Henke didn't have a chance to throw the stick. Which is good because no one in the crowd has to die fighting over it! I know he wants to do it after a shutout but, really, I hope he never does it again. One day, people are going to hurt themselves either fighting or diving for that thing.

On another note; F! U! Devils. F! U! HARD, all the way back to Newark!

I'm afraid that's what is going to take. I'm hoping Kreider is signed this month and helps out. Spending the whole fucking 3rd period like they did tonight is not going to make it easy on the stomach.

Problem is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I know he doesn't deserve it, but I'd like to see the Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan line reunited, followed by Richards-Gaborik-Hagelin. Postseason I have more faith in Dubinsky than I do Stepan. Stepan's has 14 points since the New Year, playing center for the Rangers best forward. It's not critical, just searching for an idea to tweak a team that wins but still doesn't score enough.

If not a full line change perhaps double shift Richards a few times a period to get him with Gaborik. If they create chances and show any type of chemistry then run with it. If not you keep it as is but without actually demoting Stepan for a week of games.

How is it tainted?

If his record is tainted, then all records are tainted. He's earned this record in the context of the new rules that have been in place since 2005, when he started his career. If his record is tainted, then Brodeur breaking Roy's total number of wins is also tainted because he also benefited from shootout wins.** And Roy's total wins record is tainted because he played more games per season than the previous record holder, and on and on. If you go by that logic, then no records are ever broken.

**And I know I was one of those people that said that Brodeur's record was tainted for the reason I mentioned above. For the record, I don't believe that anymore.

Edit: I think Henke is now tied with two other goalies for that record, not the sole record holder.

Nice, tough as nails win by the Rangers. If the team is going to make a run at the Cup, this was the blueprint. Ironic because we, and so many people hated a shut down defensive team like the 90's Devils but that's what we've become it seems.

It was a nice win but it did nothing to alleviate the concerns of the team. The 3rd line did some good fore checking but I don't think they produced a single shot on goal. We also had several injury scares adding to the worries of what we'll do if someone goes down.

Also, I really hope Clarkson gets suspended. If Dubi went down hurt, that's a number of games. It's not so much that he jumped into the hit. To me, it looked like he also led with his elbow, something that a guy like Matt Cooke would get ten games for.

Additionally, I don't know how he didn't get an extra two minutes with his fight, seeing as he dropped his gloves ready to punch Prust while Brandon not only still had his gloves on, but still had his stick. That guy was a total Dale Hunter type of dirty punkass bum and is the kind of guy you almost root to see get concussed.

Why not just swap Callahan and gaborik. That way the rest of the lineup remains undisturbed.

Hags really deserves some Calder votes.

Really? He's 8th in rookie scoring.

I didn't say he deserves to win, just that's he deserves some votes.

Compare his points per game to the other guys.

Hagelin is a hell of player.

At very least he will be a cog on our third line for a long time. It really seems like we have a top 6 player in him though.

I dont know even know that Richards has played a role in any serious percentage of Ryan Callahan goals, but he's another winger..as there usually is one.. having a career year playing on Brad Richards line. These things are probably unrelated and Ryan Callahan was probably do to pop 30 anyway, but its worth noting.

Also, Ryan McDonagh is ridiculous at playing defense. He's as dialed in right now defensively as Marc Staal ever was matched up against opposing superstar.

Honestly, McDonagh is better now than Staal ever was as a defender, mostly because he's a much better skater. Staal has awesome balance and thrives when the play is in the slow areas around the net or on the boards and he can use his long stick and good decision making to keep the puck out of trouble. But he's not very quick and opponents can get around him far easier than you'd think for such a big guy. Then when you go to the neutral zone and offensive zone, McDonagh is quite a bit better.

I think Staal is fourth on the team's defensive depth chart right now which is an ideal place for him.

Maybe for the remainder of this season because its all hands on deck at this point, but going forward I wonder if this is a problem for him. Top pairing guys rely so heavily on rhythm against the other teams top players, I just dont see where he gets that back. Do you? Maybe I'm totally off, but if you're looking to add another 30 goal winger in this offseason via trade, you can deal from depth here.

I know Girardi has been getting high praise this year, but maybe he deserves even more. He is the common denominator. Perhaps playing with Girardi is what makes a very good defenseman into a great one.

That was not a penalty shot but Mcdonaugh against Philly was? Huh?

Volchenkov never touched the puck with his hands. It was between or under his legs the whole time.

The rule is covering the puck, it doesn't have to be just with a hand.

QUOTE
No defending player, except the goalkeeper, will be permitted to fall on the puck, hold the puck, pick up the puck, or gather the puck into the body or hands when the puck is within the goal crease. For infringement of this rule, play shall immediately be stopped and a penalty shot shall be ordered against the offending team, but no other penalty shall be given. The rule shall be interpreted so that a penalty shot will be awarded only when the puck is in the crease at the instant the offense occurs. However, in cases where the puck is outside the crease, Rule 63 may still apply and a minor penalty may be imposed, even though no penalty shot is awarded. The significant factor when determining whether or not a penalty shot is warranted is the location of the puck at the time it was held, grabbed or gathered into the body. If the puck is in the crease, penalty shot. If the puck is outside the crease and gathered into the body of a player (other than the goalkeeper) who is inside the crease, minor penalty). See also Rule 67 – Handling Puck.

Interesting. I always thought it had to be the hand.
