Is there any way we can restore the "reply" function to the way it used to be? i.e., you only quote the one post that you respond to, not each post that is embedded therein?

The way it is now has its usefulness for sure, but it's very annoying to scroll through a thread of one-line posts that are massive in size because of the quote box. I suppose we could ask people to trim their posts when quoting and ban them permanently when they don't, but that is an annoying extra step to have to take.

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

I think we'll go back to the old system for a while, eh? Especially in the politics thread, the nested quotes are sprawling.

Remember, you can still quote multiple people at once by clicking the quote button on all the posts you want to quote, then click the More Options button on the post box below.

You guys really just don't know. No TV, vinyl only, but the most expensive Apple laptop available, with an extensive map of free WiFi locations in north Brooklyn handy at all times.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go queue up for the iPhone 5 release tomorrow.

The thing that bothers me the most is when someone puts a quote in from an ariticle and you quote their post, the quote box is lost and it screws with the continuity. Maybe allow 1 level of nesting?

Just manually quote it in, if it's that important. Quotes can be manually nested.

I think that's a feature, not a bug, though. Nested quotes get ridiculous because the auto-nesting is lazy and throws in everything. Manually quoting means you have to add the context if its needed, rather than throwing in the whole quote. Making you ask yourself "how badly do I need to quote this" will improve posts, imo.

1 level of nesting is reasonable. I typically tried to edit anything I quoted to no more than that, but sometimes you ended up deleting too many tags inadvertently and it became a mess.

I don't really ever see a need for more than 1 level, ever, and even 1 is rarely needed.
