It's also in place for teams that are out of it after the trade deadline. They can't just call up a bunch of AHL players to play them towards the end of the season to give the vets a rest. It's more a service to the fans who expect a certain level of play at an NHL game.

Yes, the Rangers have 2 more call ups PLUS they can make emergency call ups if there are injuries. The rules are just there so you don't gut your AHL team. You still need to be able to bring up people just in case.

Right. I mean, i remember the Leafs once under Pat Quinn had so many injuries while playing against the Canes and put up an awesome fight.

Would an update on Sauer kill the Rangers? I'm genuinely concerned for the guy. Is he skating? Is he sitting in a dark apartment with sunglasses on all day listening to sounds of nature? WTF Rangers? Where is this guy?

I'm sure they would give an update if anything changed. Do they really need to say "no change" every day for people to figure it out?

If they have 2 call ups then why not Erixon? You through a guy like Kreider into the fire. Again, I just can't stand seeing a guy literally sit on a bench the entire game. It's a waste of a roster spot. And if he's not going to get playing time in this series, then you can just forget it period.

The Flyers and Devils both seem faster (except for maybe Semin and Ovi) and more potent on offense. If we don't trust them against a team that seemingly wants to only score 2 goals, then we're going to give him 14 minutes against a Flyers team averaging nearly 5 goals per game?

If the trust is shot that we think Bickel will panic when pressured then start Eminger. It'd be one thing if we had a John Scott type guy on D. Eminger and even Woywitka are NHL vets that are somewhat useful.

They cannot call someone up from Hartford right now. Hasn't this been explained?

EDIT: Unless of injury to one of the starting 6 and even then I think they would have to play Eminger before they can use an emergency call up.

They cannot call someone up while Connecticut is active in the postseason unless it is an emergency injury call up.

Jesus fucking christ how many articles do I have to post.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=356049

QUOTE
Brian Burke was the first on Monday to raise the annual argument for abolishing the post-deadline rule that limits NHL teams to just four American Hockey League call-ups.

The rule only applies while the AHL affiliate team is in play and lifts as soon as their season ends, but it remains an ongoing concern for the National Hockey League.

Burke and the majority of NHL teams would happily promote their prospects for short-term duty after the trade deadline if the rule was elminated, while contending teams would utilize the flexibility to keep their roster filled.

Instead, aside from emergency recalls which are strictly policed but happen frequently, teams burn a call-up for every AHL-NHL transaction made from this point on.

This rule was collectively bargained, however sources say the NHL has repeatedly asked the NHLPA to eliminate it, and further, the league has a letter of agreement from 2005, obliging the PA to negotiate in good faith, the removal of the 4-call up rule.

Sources say the Players' Association has been willing to negotiate an amendment, but only if the league agrees to a quid pro quo.

It's believed the NHLPA is concerned with its veteran players, perhaps losing ice time to call-ups late in the year, along with the optics for the fans who pay to watch NHL players. Plus, there's an adverse financial effect players who are in the NHL at the deadline would feel if they were openly shuttled back and forth over the remainder of the season.

It's possible the issue will be revisited with newly appointed NHLPA executive director Don Fehr in the near future. If not, the matter will become one of many items tackled in negotiations of the next CBA.

Jesus, never read the recall/waiver page on capgeek. The way they explained AHL playoff eligibility for call ups was if the Whale were playing in the postseason you couldnt recall anyone unless on emergency basis. Meanwhile its supposed to explain how the AHL Clear Day works etc. Sorry Stew.

Probably the most intense games I have ever watched. My gut says this could propel the Rangers.

As for the AHL call ups, it seems to me it punishes the strong organizations that are in the playoffs on both levels. I understand why they don't want teams to strip mine affiliates in the playoffs, but isn't the goal to win Stanley and not the Calder Cup?

P.s, yes it takes a 3ot game to bring me back.

Mike Sauer if he overcomes concussion symptoms is not untradeable. We just wouldnt get a very big return.

If he overcomes his concussion symptoms he's probably worht keeping. Won't be able to command a high salary and would allow us to trade a more lucrative defensive asset. Assuming he's healthy enough to play and plays well.

That's the good thing about him.

I think he won't be traded, because if he can remain healthy, he will be a solid second pair defenseman who will never be paid much. McDonagh, Del Z, and even Erixon could command high salaries in the near future. Since he has no offense, Sauer never will. That's nice to know that we will never have to pay him much more than a third pair guy.

Jesus H Christ. Imagine if Sauer were healthy.

McD-Girardi
Staal-Stahlman
DelZ-Sauer

That's three pairs I'd roll out with almost full confidence. Stahlman becomes the weak link and that's an upgrade over Bickel.

I agree. Throw in Erixon and Mcllrath to the mix too. looks good

Which I am considering doing in the off-season. But until then, y'all can police yourselves or just pester the living fuck out of each other. Whatever. This is way too much aggravation for a supplemental part of a hobby.

Which are you considering doing in the offseason - closing the joint, or making all of us die? Because if it's the latter, I'd like to take charge in forming a resistance against you. I feel that, even though I'm a lot younger than everyone here except Charlie and xcdude, I'm mature enough and have enough guts to take you head on.

I should be on that list too, you jerk. I'm only two years older than you.

I only mentioned those two because I know I'm older than them. I'll pencil you in as cannon fodder in the Rocha Rebellion.

I am apparently the same age as Eric.

Did not know that. laugh2.gif

Why can't we just enforce the rules then? If someone is a flat out asshole to someone else, on purpose, it's a ban for a day. Shit, we can hire Shanahan to do it. I fuck up too at times and if i get banned for it, fine. Lesson learned. I come back and try harder not to be a jerk to someone else. Enough with slaps on the hand. That's what this place has been for the past years. People ganging up on others as well because they can. If people don't like it and get offended by it, fuck it. This place gets better if they don't like the rules.

Agreed.

There are certain people on this site that repeatedly flame-bait others. Regardless if someone posts stupid shit, there is no reason to throw out personal insults or respond in a dickish manner, yet that goes on in almost every thread.

Oh, people are still gonna get banned if they act like dicks. I'm just saying I'm not gonna police every single bad comment I see anymore like I was trying the last few weeks. I would appreciate if everyone pitch in a little and when someone acts like an asshole, ask him or her to knock it off. That means stepping into the line of fire once in a while instead of waiting for me or a mod to do it. I think there's a lot of entrenched bitterness and grudges built up over many years that people need to let go, because watching them play out over these years has gotten tiring. I honestly don't want to do this anymore and haven't for a while, so everyone needs to be a little more active in keeping things civil if it is to go on.

And let's not dwell on this here. Someone make a topic in Anything Goes or Help if you want to continue the discussion.

And Beamer's productivity goes sky-high.
Of course, that'd be in part because every girl around him starts avoiding being around him because he loses his best outlet to discuss all the nerdy things he enjoys.

Seriously, we're all (uh, mostly) adults here. Why are we looking to Pete & co. to be the Jerk Police?

Of course, I'd be most likely to help if we got a good "stop being a dick" GIF...

Not that these lines don't have an estimated shelf life of about 10 minutes, but I wonder about the logic behind putting Boyle and Cally on the 3rd line. Could this be a harbinger of rolling the top three with a more equal distribution of TOI or a strategy to provide Boyle and Cally som respite in order to save them from wearing out.

I don't know how much a few minutes in TOI really makes but I never thought of that as a reason, although it makes sense.

Heads up for those of you who (like me) will need to record the game due to scheduling conflicts...

12:58 PM
NOTE: The TV Coverage Situation Tommorrow If The Game Goes Into Multiple Overtimes (UPDATE)from SNYRangersBlog.com by Adam Rotter
At Puck Daddy, Sean Leahy writes of what will happen if the Rangers game tomorrow, at 12:30PM, goes late and runs into the pre-race coverage of the Kentucky Derby which starts at 4PM.

“Viewers will be able to catch the entire first overtime on NBC. A second overtime will air on NBC “depending upon timing and circumstances,” according to the network. Once NBC switches to pre-race coverage, NBC Sports Network will carry the remainder of the game.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5:14PM NBC has announced, via Leahy, that the game will stay on NBC through two OT periods and that if it goes longer, the game will switch to CNBC for those not in NY or DC. In NY and DC, the game will stay on NBC.
