Well forget the best 8th seed ever.

If the Kings win this in 4 or 5 games they're going to go down as one of the best postseason teams in NHL history. It's incredible to consider that this team was out of 8th for much of the year.

They simply do not have a weakness.

And for those pining for guys like Nash and Parise....The Kings are doing this after they were left at the alter by Richards. Yeah, they brought in Jeff Carter but the Kings are showing you can do this without getting the shiny new toy every off-season.

Mike Richards is most definitely a shiny new toy.

So, a dilemma: If the Kings can hold onto this lead and even though it probably won't happen, do I dare shell out the dough to potentially see LA raise the Cup in New Jersey?

Ya never know, completing a sweep is hard because the other team has nothing to lose at that point. They play their hardest, most desperate hockey in Game 4. But, with the way Quick has been, it might not be a contest regardless of how hard the Devils bring it on Wednesday. The goaltending matchup in this series is what it SHOULD have been like in the Rangers/Devils series.

I really do hope the Kings complete the sweep though. It's extra special when a team wins the Cup in front of its home crowd, and it doesn't seem like it happens that often.

LA Kings @LAKings

Carter, Martinez, Williams, and Kopitar each had more goals in Game 3 than Kovalchuk and Parise have combined in the series.

I haven't seen a goalie clinic like this since Roy in his prime. It's truly remarkable to watch.

Lundqvist was pretty great this year in the playoffs, but I don't know if he was this great. Quick is making it look easy, and those are some really high-quality shots he is facing. He never looks like he has to fight one off.

No offense but how old we're you when Roy was in his prime? 5?

Quick is reminding me of Hasek in the mid-to-late 90's. Not as floppy as Hasek but, in the sense that with a lot of his savesyou're thinking "how on earth did he get a piece of that???"

Honestly, short of the Rangers winning the Cup this is the best outcome possible. Kings sweep Devils, Parise looks at the Rangers as more likely to compete in the coming years than the oldest team in the league in NJ, Flyers fans have to watch and cry as Richards and Carter hoist the Cup. My evil plan is coming together, or something.

If the Kings win this in 4 or 5 games they're going to go down as one of the best postseason teams in NHL history.

I sincerely doubt it. In fact, looking back, this postseason has been marked by considerable mediocrity, whether it was the perennial power teams in the West bowing out early or the superstars falling apart in the East. Soon to be noteworthy about the Kings, aside from yay winning the Stanley Cup, will be the remarkable fall they're about to have because the salary cap will guy their team. Penner and Stoll are gone next season, and it will be very hard to resign Quick when they have money tied up in Doughty, Kopitar, Richards and Carter.

This is the biggest reason why nobody we don't see repeat Stanley Cup champs anymore.

This is bullshit fans of other teams say to make themselves feel better. If the Rangers won the Eastern Conference title and lost to the Kings, our run would've been meaningless?

I'd trade Kopitar. I know he's a home grown player and a popular one, but Richards-Carter have real good chemistry and keeping Doughty and Quick is far more important.

Kopitar-Brown is significantly better than Richards-Carter. I can't see trading Kopitar at all. They can bury Gagne's contract next year too, so that's another $3.5M in space right there.

Well, the Hawks and possibly the Kings will be like that possibly but if they raise that cap to $70 million?

Even if the cap doesn't move, the Pens and Bruins still had their teams in tact after they won, in fact, the Pens still have a lot of the 07-09 core there. Some teams go all in to win. The Hawks screwed themselves by giving Hossa that huge deal but it helped them win a championship. This is why I really hope we DON'T go after a guy like Parise.

We have a core that was 2 wins from a championship. Bringing in another $7 million guy could really hurt us in retaining some guys.

By the way KOD you're right. It's been 4 years since you saw a home crowd enjoy it. I believe it was Anaheim/Ottawa.

No offense but how old we're you when Roy was in his prime? 5?

Quick is reminding me of Hasek in the mid-to-late 90's. Not as floppy as Hasek but, in the sense that with a lot of his savesyou're thinking "how on earth did he get a piece of that???"

I think his style almost mimics Richter, actually. He does the split as well.

You sure they are the oldest team?

Obviously if Brodeur retires and they get a 28 year old goalie that would change the average by a handful, no?

It depends on how the team got there. If it is a young team then a Finals sweep is tough, but a lesson learned and it was worth it. If it is an older team that had easier challenges to get to the Finals then i think that run is meaningless if they get their asses kicked in four games.

That would reduce the team's total age by 12. So, about .6 years comes off the average 12 depending on how you calculate roster size.

With $70M cap, i think they can keep all of those guys. Richards and Carter carry fair cap hits.
