I cant help but root for the shit out of the Kings after hearing Jon Quick, a nice Connecticut boy, was 7 years old during the '94 EC Finals and was a die hard Ranger fan. Thats about as second best as it comes.

Born at the same hospital as my boys. Ergo, expect to see them in the NHL.

I'll make sure to pre-order their gamers right now!

I like it because I get to see Broduchebag trying to pull that heel save out of his ass again. He lifts his pad to try and get it w/his heel and kopitar shovels it under his pad . BWWWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FUCK YOU MARTAAN!

I lost a bet and have to put myself wearing a Devils t-shirt up as my FB profile pic for a week. Today I went to Modells and Sports Authority, and both were sold out of Devils anything. That bothers the shit out of me!

Had it been LA vs NY they never would let the Burger Kings lift the cup, as it's more than 16oz.

Jerry, you might want to read what I wrote again. I'm not complaining at all about the Kings jerseys. It's the fact that the Cup patch is on the OTHER jersey that makes me nauseous.

EDIT: Also, I thought I read somewhere that the Kings actually petitioned to wear their purple and gold jerseys for at least one home game in the Finals but were shot down by the league. Booooooooo.

I question why teams can't wear any alternate jersey in the playoffs. I could be wrong but I haven't seen a single 3rd jersey worn.

You would think the NHL would want to do that to get more jersey sales.

I'd say tonight is pretty much do-or-die for the Devils. If they drop into a 0-2 hole against the Kings, there's not going to be much coming back from that. Not with how dominant the Kings have been this year. The Devils know that and will come out flying tonight.

Also, the longer this series goes the bigger advantage the Kings have. There are only two two-day breaks during the series, one is today and the other is between games 4 and 5. Having to make that long plane trip and only having a day between to recuperate if it goes to a Game 6/7 will heavily favor the much more well-rested Kings.

Teams are allowed to wear their thirds in the playoffs but not for the Finals. I'm not sure why.

The Kings' perspective and focus is pretty impressive. At this point, after what they've accomplished, it would be pretty easy to let it go to their heads but instead they are taking it one game at a time. Each game, they treat it as the first of the series and refuse to take anything for granted. Very smart to do so-- overconfidence has led to many a team's downfall.

QUOTE
"I think we have to reset, refocus," said defenseman Drew Doughty, who scored one of the prettiest goals of the postseason in the opening period to give the Kings an early lead. "We have to go back to L.A. as if the series is just starting. We have home-ice advantage and we have to take the first two at home.

10-0 on the road in the Stanley Cup Playoffs? That's unheard of. Amazing.

10 wins overall on the road? Yes. That's been done several times. Twice by the Nut-gobblers and once by the Flames in 2003-04. But unbeaten on the road? No. That's most definitely a first. No team has ever gone the entire playoff season without losing a single road playoff game.

Well forget the best 8th seed ever.

If the Kings win this in 4 or 5 games they're going to go down as one of the best postseason teams in NHL history. It's incredible to consider that this team was out of 8th for much of the year.

They simply do not have a weakness.

And for those pining for guys like Nash and Parise....The Kings are doing this after they were left at the alter by Richards. Yeah, they brought in Jeff Carter but the Kings are showing you can do this without getting the shiny new toy every off-season.

I dunno if you watched a different game 2, but the Devils dominated most of that game. In the end, of course, all that matters is that the Kings were on top on the scoreboard but it bears mentioning that they did not steamroll the Devils like they have previous opponents. They had to work for that win.

Really, Quick won it for them in it by outplaying Brodeur. He has been unbeatable-- both of the goals NJ scored on him came off deflections. I think at this point there is really no question: Quick will get the Conn Smythe win or lose.

And that's what you need sometimes. For how amazing Quick has been, he really hasn't been called on to bail out his team that many times in the playoffs. With that said, he had to 3/4 of the regular season.

I think it's kind of scary that the Devils could control so much of that game and STILL lose.

How so? The Rangers made a post-season out of doing just that. Rope a dope 3/4 of the game and then when the other team is frustrated enough, the Rangers capitalize on one or two mistakes.

Anyway, if I had to pick out a weakness for the Kings it's their PP. It isn't all that effective, but they make up for it with an extremely aggressive penalty kill. Their speed is hard to handle and it enables them to create odd-man chances while short-handed.

The Kings are not the Rangers and vice versa. The Kings have often dominated their opponents. Quick also hasn't really had a stinker. Their defense hasn't eroded to the tune of giving up 12 goals in 3 games. Now you can quite possibly chalk that up to fatigue but still, I can't compare these teams.

L.A. hasn't had many stinkers in the playoffs. They haven't relied on their goalie solely to win them many games. The Rangers seemed to do that all the time.

They're 14-2 for a reason and it hasn't been with smoke and mirrors.

The Rangers, for as successful as they were this year, ended up 10-10 in the playoffs and a goal differential of +2 in those 20 games.

Oh, I agree. I'm just saying that the Rangers got dominated in most of their games but found a way to eke out wins anyway.

Also, here's a boggling stat: Kings are 92% on the PK but only 8% on their PP. They have 5 SHG, which is the same amount of goals they've allowed on the PK. They've only scored one more goal than that on the PP themselves.

I sincerely doubt it. In fact, looking back, this postseason has been marked by considerable mediocrity, whether it was the perennial power teams in the West bowing out early or the superstars falling apart in the East. Soon to be noteworthy about the Kings, aside from yay winning the Stanley Cup, will be the remarkable fall they're about to have because the salary cap will guy their team. Penner and Stoll are gone next season, and it will be very hard to resign Quick when they have money tied up in Doughty, Kopitar, Richards and Carter.
