According to Zipay:

QUOTE
When Henrik Lundqvist didn't play against Vancouver, I suggested that there could be more than meets the eye. There had been whispers about Henrik's dad undergoing surgery a few weeks ago, and Lundqvist finally spoke about it with John Dellapina. His father Peter is recovering from brain surgery, and his dad has certainly been on his mind.

According to Zipay:

Did he say if he thought it was directly impacting his play on the ice?

Because he could still have his father on his mind but concentrate when he plays.

If it is having an "effect" (ooo buzz word!) then he should not be playing.

I don't want him to pull a Marbury either and take off a month..

If your father was going through something like that, wouldn't it affect your concentration? Of course it would if you have at least a normal relationship there.

Rangers should give him some time off and play Valiquette every day until Hank returns. The way they are playing, it's not even a certainty that they will make the playoffs. But they might even play a tighter defense with Vali in there.

JP also says that his father is getting better, but the recovery is slow. No idea on if he is out of the woods yet.

His dad was actually admitted to the hospital around Thanksgiving according to a Swedish paper. Right after the SO vs NJ on 12/9 is when they included it in the game recap since he mentioned something about that win being for him.

Since then he's been pretty bad in comparison to the beginning of the season so I would think the two are related.

He had a aynuism(sp?) on the flight back to Sweden after the Rangers-Stars game and had brain surgery without telling Henrik or Joel.

You gotta believe that this is at least partially the reason Hank hasn't been able to focus lately. I don't care what he says; when your dad is going through something like that, it has a huge affect on you. Best wishes to Mr. Lundqvist and Henrik and Joel.

I had a characteristically brilliant piece all ready to go for the front page that completely dispelled the fatigue theory, and suggested that distractions, especially this one, were the reason why Henrik has been slumping.

Thanks a lot, Zipper. Jerk.

He should not be playing then, he is impacting the whole team doing that. Not fair.

Everyone knows how competitive Lundqvist is; he wants to play and win every single night. He could be in a bit of denial about his father's ailment distracting him. He told Zipay that it wasn't distracting him at all...but let's be realistic. It almost surely is a little bit. He might think that leaving the team for personal reasons would be unfair.

I'll take a distracted Lundqvist over Valiquette. Sorry Stevie, but unless it is back-to-backs or Lundqvist is tired I dont want you in. Decent backup though.

Henke probably also wanted to go just to get his mind off it for a little while. I know I did when my old man wasn't doing so good. Doing nothing is a surefire way to lose your fucking mind.

If we had Bob Clarke he would have traded him by now.

Clarke would have killed that prospect in the womb. Clarke hates goalies. I always thought he was jealous that Parent got two Smythes and he got none.
