Savages looks pretty terrible and DKR was good but not great but Moonrise Kingdom was fantastic.

I heard Savages was good if you try to divorce any social commentary from it. Decent cast, drug-dealing action thriller.

From the Times:

http://movies.nytimes.com/2012/07/06/movie...lows-novel.html

QUOTE
"Savages"¯ is a daylight noir, a western, a stoner buddy movie and a love story, which is to say that it is a bit of a mess. But also a lot of fun, especially as its pulp elements rub up against some gritty geopolitical and economic themes. Rather than grandstand about these, the filmmakers embed them in a story full of ambushes, betrayals and bloody reprisals, mostly carried out by an especially vivid cast of villains and double dealers.

Savages was the choice, and a good one. A little over-stylized, this being Oliver Stone, the narration was a little too hammy in the way noir movies can be, and the ending was eye-roll inducing. Some genuinely tense and grisly moments though, and a compelling plot. Taylor Kitsch and Benicio were particular standouts.

I am truly sad that I just finished season 4 of The Wire. That was, without a doubt, the best television I have ever watched.

I will never see anything that good again. I thought it would be hard to top season 2, but that just blew it out of the water. Pure fucking art.

Tonight was date night .We decided to see "The Watch" Started out slowly and wasn't that funny. I was about to declare that the movie sucked but it picked up about half way through and was pretty fucking funny the rest of the way.

There were some huge plot holes though, that you could've flown an alien ship through.
*How do a group of average Joe neighborhood watch guys ,w/absolutely no formal training, suddenly become deadly accurate shooters, w/ability to shoot aliens in the balls and who leap ahead, w/o thinking, into obviously life threatening situations w/no second thoughts as to their safety?
*How does Ben Stiller have a child at the end when the tests showed he was sterile?
*How did the aliens get a transmitter installed in Costco w/o anyone noticing.
*Finally why would the aliens even choose Costco as their base of operations when everyone knows BJs has a much better selection of products with lower prices ?
*Really , how can anyone take this film seriously w/such obvious flaws in the storyline. rolleyes.gif

So, I just watched the Paranormal Activity 4 trailer... I don't get it, I mean I get it, it's fucking Paranormal Activity but...

The story was established in the second one why this was happening to this family and by the end of the second one the demon presumably got what it wanted, Correct? OK so they made a third to show us what happened to the girls as children and it was a prequel and it milked the series, fine.

But now in the 4th one it seems the possessed chick and the boy she kidnapped are living a normal life in suburbia and are just screwing with neighbors?

Saw Searching For Sugar Man, great documentary about a supposed cant miss folk singer from the early 70s, who really missed. Turns out he was hugely famous (and mysterious) in South Africa to no one but their knowledge, and two dudes seek out his real story and the reality of his "legendary death". id really encourage people to see it and not read about it first.

Just saw the Total Recall remake. It's actually pretty good. Not nearly as much fun as the original but I was impressed. I went in with some really low expectations but it did a good job. It also changed a fuckton from the original movie and I have no idea how they compare to the original story as I've never read it.

Also it had the trailer for the new Red Dawn. It looks like comedy gold. Seriously this concept does not work without Reagan in the White House. Also Chris Hemsworth can't do an American accent for shit, he is very Australian.

Skyfall and Taken 2 trailers on the other hand look pretty damn good.

I know I missed out on context, am too young, blah blah blah but Red Dawn is probably the biggest piece of shit movie I have ever seen. I can't think of another movie that I had to turn off. Not that I got bored, I had nothing else to do. Me and my friends literally turned it off it was such a piece of shit.

The Red Menace was never part of your childhood. It's pure fiction and poorly acted etc, but if you practiced hiding under your desk in school once a month, then the fantasy/nightmare of a World War of that kind was part of your world. When we were kids, we played "War" at Summer Camp, we watched draft notices scroll on TV and everyone had family pictures with military uniforms. EVERYONE. We all talked about whether we would go ....or run to Canada or go to college to avoid it. We talked about how we could fool the draft board on physicals etc etc etc. War and the risk of death through it was part of growing up.

So Red Dawn was all kinds of awesome! Dated as hell, but if you were from that time and of that age....you would have probably loved it. All that being said....I'm guessing the Red Menace of the remake is China? Like Nilan said....it really doesn't work anymore.

I watched it a couple months ago for the first time since back then. It really is awful. It's fun in a totally cheezy/bad way, but the propaganda that movie shits out is crazy. Not to mention it's just so ridiculous. Nevermind a bunch of scared/dumb kids holding off major military powers, but they just happen to pop up out of bushes and hidey holes at just the right moment every time, mowing down waves of trained soldiers with heavy equipment in tanks and shit. Or when they busted into the heavily guarded prison camp. John Milius has the imagination of a 13-year old.

Red Dawn is like the original Star Wars movies in that the shittiness made it good. It was also like Team America 20 years before Team America. Fuck yeah!

I kinda hate when AMC does Mob Week because I never watch anything else. Godfather parts 1 and 2 and then Goodfellas? Looks like I'm not doing anything else today!

Finished with the Wire. Kind of want to restart and watch it through again.

I can come to terms with the senseless violence, I understand that bad things happen to good people and that God doesn't intercede in mortal affairs in the way we might want him to, but what I don't understand is why he dyed his hair red. Doesn't the Joker have green hair? What, was Sally's Beauty Supply out of Electric Lizard Manic Panic or something?

The IT crowd

is amazing. I love Moss so fucking much.

I know I brought this up before, but "The Inbetweeners" is equally hilarious.
The movie was mediocre. Only a few really good moments.

Also ....Misfits was great the first two seasons and then we got bored in the 3rd.

Actually in the remake the enemy is North Korea, *spittake*. Just saw Killer Joe and jesus christ in a whorehouse what have I watched? It was great but my god there are parts of that movie that left even myself feeling unclean. You will never look at KFC the same way again after the ending. Had to hunt down a theater in Manhattan since its NC-17.

Matthew McConaughey is fucking brilliant in the titular role because when he isn't making shitty romcoms the man can do intense like few others. He wears fucking head to toe black in the Texas heat and simply refuses to sweat, he is that cool. Also he's a detective who does side work as a hitman and is also a pedophile. And he's probably the most together character in the fucking movie. Juno Temple who was Holly in The Dark Knight Rises was great even though it was filmed last year and her character is supposed to be 12. She doesn't look 12 but she manages to convince you she is which makes for some of the most uncomfortable scenes ever. The rest of her family is Thomas Haden Church who is the father who killed what few brain cells he had with the cheapest possible beer, Gina Gershon as her stepmom who makes Peg Bundy seem refined and her brother is Emile Hirsch who gets the ball rolling by being a total fuckup. I won't go too much into the story but the cast was great and it's nice to see Tom Friedkin with his fastball behind the camera. Dear god in heaven.

I have never had or seen a Swiss Army knife that was nearly as sharp or as useful as MacGyvers.

EDIT: My god the first season of this show was terrible.

If you think it's too weird you might like El Topo better, which is like a western on LSD. But I think Santa Sangre is his best.

Santa Sangre is on Netflix instant. Either I've lost my grip on reality or I'm starting to follow this a bit.

Apparently there's a contingent of Adventure Time fans that think PB and Marceline are going to end up together? Huh?
