I saw the 4th Pirates movie this weekend. I am an apologist for the second and, especially, the third movies in the original trilogy. I'm having a hard time pinning down exactly what about the new one does not work. It's a good looking movie. It all just feels a little by the numbers though. There's no life to it. (And certainly no chemistry between Depp and Cruz.) The mermaids were the coolest part. (But the sub-plot with the mermaid and the cleric was the worst part!)
Anyway, it's not a bad movie but neither is it terribly good. Which is a shame because this is a genre I want to see more of. -------------------- |

Sons of Anarchy: Season 1 - Not what I expected. Only two episodes in, but "Peg Bundy" is FANTASTIC. I'm still trying to determine my like/dislike of the other characters.

Takes a while to get into the groove with the story and the whole dynamic of the club etc. A few more episodes and it really kicks in. And yes...Gemma is a GREAT character. Easily one of the best on TV. Enjoy the Ride! |

It takes a little bit of getting into. Something to know about the show is that it is very, very loosely based on Hamlet. Keep it in the back of your mind as you watch the show. I third the awesomeness of Sons. I've only seen season one on NetFlix, but I liked it a lot. It also made me read Hell's Angels by Hunter S. Thompson.

I think Season 2 might be my favorite Sons season, and that's a really, really hard choice. It's close.

Something to know about the show is that it is very, very loosely based on Hamlet. Keep it in the back of your mind as you watch the show. But it's fantastic. Yes! We were totally getting that vibe. I'm only at the part where he finds his dad's manuscript/novella/journal/novel, but Gemma is very upset that he found it. So I'm gunna talk about the event since I think no one cares. Spoiler ahead, tee hee.
The show was horrible and the finale was no different. It didn't make me want more event, it made me want a different cast, a different show and different writers to tackle the idea the event brought about in the final five minutes. So the "alien"race transported their people to earth, how? Well they transported their entire planet into earths orbit and Sophia, the alien leader, promised this would end badly. And the final shots were the people of earth looking up at a freaking planet in their sky. So basically, earth is going to turn into a chaotic danger zone. Not only will the people of the planet be waging war, but the earth as we know it is done. I'm sure there would be some kind of mass flooding thanks to tidal changes. Changes in the length of days, Etc etc etc. That's a show I want to watch, just not the events version. |

Up until 2am watching Sons of Anarchy. Very tired. Dreamed about motorcycles.

The show was horrible and the finale was no different. You are a glutton for punishment. I figured this after the first episode and never watched it again. Which makes me think of another show I've given up on recently, AMC's The Killing. It's actually not a terrible show, though it's not quite as good as the critics would have you believe. It's a little uneven but, that's not why I stopped watching it. After four episodes it felt more like a chore than something I was actually enjoying. I'm not invested enough in either the mystery or the characters to force myself to sit through the rest of the season. Up until 2am watching Sons of Anarchy. Very tired. Dreamed about motorcycles. ![]() "Let's do this marines!" -------------------- |

You are a glutton for punishment. I figured this after the first episode and never watched it again. I really am, but now I want a show revolving around the premise thy introduced. The worst part is, it will probably never happen. The Event was such a failure no one would think of doing an idea that even remotely seemed like it, or, the rumors are true and it gets picked up by another network. Apparently there is interest and it's being shopped. One of the suitors is apparently netflix, who wants to start carrying original content. I don't want the creators running this idea into absolute shit. I can tell you how it goes right now. "They are here oh shit they are here." "of course you know, this means war." "can't we talk about it?" "no" "well prepare for a fight" "ok maybe we can work something out" All the while other characters do things that don't matter while the newly introduced planet in our orbit has no effect on the everyday life of our planet. blech. |

Well that was a waste of time. Just pure rehash and for whatever reason the word alleged was never used towards Bradley Manning. Basically just assumed him guilty and rehashed the history without exploring the impact of these leaks.

I have started watching Justified. I was liking it, but not wholly impressed.
Then I watched episodes 9 and 10. (Hatless and The Hammer). They were amazing. Totally changed my opinion of the show. Just really good tv. And, from everything I've read the second season is even better. -------------------- I can come to terms with the senseless violence, I understand that bad things happen to good people and that God doesn't intercede in mortal affairs in the way we might want him to, but what I don't understand is why he dyed his hair red. I'm not spoilering House of all things. If you didn't watch it and actually care, stop reading.
I've heard many critics go the hallucination route to varying degrees. Some think he's passed out in his bathtub while others think like you said passed out in the car. I really don't buy the hallucination bit at all. He can't be passed out in the tub because than it erases the entire finale episode. Why is House hallucinating about Taub's exwife being pregnant? Just stupid. If he's in the car, it's more plausible, but equally horrifically dumb. If he really did, it's flat out moronic. I really hate him now. I don't find him sympathetic at all but I keep watching because the wife likes it and I enjoy mocking it because it's gotten to that level of bad. Let's not forget why House started this week in a hospital. Because he cut open his own leg with stolen medical supplies because he was attempting to pull out tumors that were created by using stolen drugs that were barely in the test phase from the hospital. And yet his doctor ANNND Cuddy have no problem with him HELPING A PATIENT. The show has gone 110% beyond suspension of disbelief. Even my wife who is an apologist for the show looked at me and said "that episode was pretty bad" Where is this going? Cuddy leaves and doesn't press charges? DUMB. House communicates with the team via phone while hiding out on a beach somewhere solving little beach medical mysteries of his own? DUMB. House comes back and is in prison, helping the team through phone calls and visits? DUMB. The team has to survive without him all season while he's either in prison or on a beach somewhere? RRRREALLY DUMB. House comes back to find Cuddy is pressing charges and instead of removing House from the hospital removes herself (she already announced she was leaving) and House is back in the hospital trying to smooth things over with Wilson while solving medical mysteries and all is status quo with a lingering court case all season long that ends with House in jail and the series ends. Jerry Seinfeld finale bad. Am I missing a scenario here? If I am, is it a good one, because I don't see how they climb out of this. |

Message was definitely kind of warped though. They ripped the NCAA and their practices a new one, while basically calling the players babies. Babies that are addicted to crack.

Right, I figured it was the groundwork for the Avengers more than anything else.

I finally got to watch The Rite. That was quite a creepy movie. Anthony Hopkins was phenomenal. The plot was pretty good. I thought it had some good parts, but other parts were maybe too much. It's wicked stuff....and quite creepy. The actors were good, except for O'Donahue. He doesn't look too convincing in such a role. No real facial expressions. He looks like Wade Redden, too.
I enjoyed it, though, a lot. -------------------- ![]() |

Saw The Hangover II, and the reviews are mostly spot-on.
The theater was jam packed and people were eager to be entertained. The first 30 minutes got enormous laughs, though most of those were at jokes that were referencing the first movie. I got very tired of that by the time Alan mentioned his pager - that one was too much deja vu. Other jokes were either characters making fun of the last time or bitching about how absurd it was that this happened again. The pager was just an identical repeat. Then the laughs got fewer and far between. After 30 or 50 minutes it just hit some kind of dead time. In fairness the first movie dragged at this point, too, but here the dragging was far more noticeable. Hell, even Stu's song was far less funny. My friends really enjoyed it, but I think that had we watched it on a couch rather than a jammed theater of people dying to laugh they would have liked it less. Familiar characters and very good actors with just not that much amusing going on around them. |

I loved the opening to the Wire. I would always try and pick out the scenes that were chopped up for the opening sequence.
Plus the song is pretty good too. -------------------- |

Did you put your head down and make whispering noises under your breath? Nah, i figure the guy has enough shit to deal with being related to Tom Cruise so why heap more onto it. -------------------- ![]() |

Why would I ban him? He had a minor role on the show and I can't blame him for who his relatives are. That would be petty.
