When I get back up to my office, I need to put that song on - feeling completely overwhelmed by this grant project.

Meanwhile, I just run the St. Vincent album over and over at work all day.

So weird, and so beautiful.

Say... I like it. I will have to check them out.

QUOTE(Mike B. @ Sep 21 2011, 02:06 PM) *
Tune-yards was absolutely amazing last night. Made me like her latest album even more than I already do. Merrill Garbus is a complete dynamo on stage - she was clearly enjoying herself and the completely amped crowd very much, and the power of her vocals is really something to behold live. Couple that with a small venue, and a great backing band, and that's a good recipe.

You slept with her, didn't you?

I'm not one to talk. I spent today listening to the new albums by Yuck and EMA over and over trying to decide which one I loved more and the answer I came up with was EMA. Indie haters ignite!

QUOTE
It's more the forced emotive vocals and the over-production. Just seems like a lot of screaming over uninventive instrumentation and run-of-the-mill storylines.

I loved the acoustic clip that xcheck posted so I downloaded the album and was really disappointed. But then I went on YouTube and started checking out the other acoustic versions of these songs from the series that Checky's link belonged to and a bunch of those were really good. I ended up deleting the album and using a Youtube ripper to make a custom album from the better acoustic versions. I don't know what the moral of this story is.

Also, last night a withc came and cast a spell on me where I liked every song I heard. Hilary had the local pop station on in the kitchen when I came home and I loved six songs in a row from all sorts of horrible artists culminating with me going, "And who's this? This is really good too. Oh, it's the new Coldplay."

So, no one has to listen to any of my opinions on music ever.

Saw Wilco at Summer Stage last night - good, not great. Not because of them, but because I just don't like that venue very much. You would think that it would be great to see live music in Central Park on a summer night, but it never seems to work out. It's a pretty big place without any seating, so it combines some of the worst aspects of club and large venue shows - standing around a lot for hours on end, without being rewarded for doing so by getting close to the stage unless you want to get there very early. Also, as Kusand pointed out to me, the sound dissipates a lot in the outdoor space.

Wilco themselves were pretty good though - some of the songs off YHF sounded great, especially "Ashes of American Flags" and "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart". For the encore, they played "War on War", "Jesus, etc." and "I'm the Man That Loves You" back to back - on "Jesus, etc.", the crowd sang the entire first verse, which was definitely pretty cool. Not familiar enough with the newest CD yet to pick off what the played off of it, and Tweedy didn't name any of the songs. I think that if I were more familiar with more of their work, I would have enjoyed the show more.

Honestly, I enjoyed Nick Lowe opening a lot more. That guy is just so cool.

Welcome to the cool kids club!

That is my least favorite of their albums, but I do really like that song. The slide guitar is a very cool sound.

The Hold Steady are relatively amazing. One of the best bands going, really. I want to see them live, heard it's like a spiritual epiphany.

That may or may not be hyperbole.

Not sure if I've posted this before or not, but this is strangely epic. I'm at a complete loss for why, but I can't get enough of it.

On an unrelated note, I can safely say a nice pair of headphones was one of the best investments I have ever made. Sitting at my desk listening to Big Boi's album as loud as my ears can handle is fucking awesome.

These guys were supposed to play a show on Friday at Webster Hall, but they had to cancel because the lead singer recently had vocal chord surgery. Hopefully he recovers OK. Some of the songs on that album are catchy as hell.

I had a dream last night that I met Thom Yorke. He gave me free tickets to their shows in NY this week (including ones for the non-existent New Orleans shows) after I agreed to eat food that he chewed and spit out on a plate (and I'm not even that big a fan!). Hopefully that's good sign for my ability to get tickets tomorrow when they go on sale.

My non-interest in non-Enslaved, totally justified. Fuck Junius and Alcest were dull, moreso back to back. Enslaved were worth every penny even if they did a Zeppelin cover. I hate.when bands play.covers live. I'll see a tribute band for that. So far the new Rwake is good. It's pronounced wake, don't ask about r, I have no idea.

Milagres' new album Glowing Mouth. Will likely end up in my 2011 top 10 list, or at least an HM slot.

Worth noting their previous album was called Seven Summits and was based on stories the group's leader was told by various climbing guides, so I'm pretty much a sucker now.

Also, Christ Nilan, get in touch wit' yo' sensitive side. Alcest and Junius aren't that bad...

So now what do we do? This is just like when Morrissey said that McDonald's killing cows for burgers is worse than the Norway shooting incident, right? Is it possible to still like musicians that are complete loons?

I think so. I mostly don't give a fuck what most people think anyway, so why should I care about what musicians think?

Well - conspiracy theories would be fine with me, but hating Jews is a little different.

EDIT: And Public Enemy doesn't hate Jews! That was just, you know, some journalist erasing and manipulating tape, taking words out of context. Totally.

The Foo Fighters played for nearly three hours last night. Three hours. And it was probably the best show I've seen them do.
Set list

That's right...Krist Novoselic came out for one of the songs. He didn't play bass. He played...accordion.

I actually got a little weepy for a variety of reasons during These Days.

Just an amazing, amazing show. I shot some video that's still on my camera. Probably a bit shaky and a little crappy on the sound quality since it's my point and shoot (rather than my kick ass HD camera).
