Better to play the Red Wings early. They're not playing at their best right now. They could be beaten . Thing is Rangers , given their schedule so far, have to be running on fumes right now. Good thing Renney gave Henrik the night off v. Leafs.

The last Rangers win in Dee-troyt was January 30, 1999; 3-2.

Hey, if the fucking Leafs could shock the world by winning on the night the champs raised their banner, why can't the Rangers win tonight? GO RANGERS.

I didn't realize it until I was writing the pregame but the Rangers haven't played the Wings during the regular season since February 2007, and the Rangers almost won that game (this was also during their "hey, we're going to blow two-goal leads right and left stretch). But it just seems strange and wrong that the original six teams don't play each other every season. Stupid schedule. Glad that bit has at least changed a little.

In my perfect world, the NHL would have 24 teams and the original six would all be in the same division.

If you stopped at 24 teams, I'd be on board. I don't know if it makes sense for the original six to be in one division.

As if the pregame hype to Monday's game wasn't bad enough, guess what happened the last time the Rangers played the wings. It was the same day the Rangers traded for Sean Avery.

Yeah, it's no different than what Nashville goes through now. Actually, of all the teams there, Colorado would have it the worst. Having to go into two other time zones in the EST for Ottawa/Pittsburgh and in the CST for Dallas/ St. Louis/Minnesota. It does work though. Make it an 80-game schedule with division rivals playing a rotational schedule of 7-7-6-6-6, conference rivals 4 times each and non-conference teams 2 times each.

That was also during the the Wings' "Hey, lets spot teams from New York early leads before making late game comebacks" stretch. They did it to both the Rangers and the Islanders in the span of about a week (and had a third-period comeback about a month earlier against the Devils).

As long as I'm here, some notes from the Detroit side of the fence... Henrik Zetterberg still out, Brad Stuart out after taking a shot to the knee against Vancouver. Darren Helm in for Zetterberg for the second straight game, Derek Meech makes his first appearance of the season having been a healthy scratch for the first four games.

If the Wings play like they have on the road this season, they'll win. If they play like they've played at home, they'll lose. Oversimplified but that's the early-season trend.

You're original division idea is pretty fockin' hot. I'd be excited by this scheme. Give it a new name, tho. Original Division just isn't sex-ay or zazzy enough. biggrin.gif The only thing is, I'm sure an Icelander fan will look at this and go WTF? Tampa Bay and Carolina over us? Yeah bitches! Ha, ha.

Osgood in tonight?

When was the last time the Rangers beat Detroit?

Fritsche out, Korpedo in.

Korpikoski will play with Drury and Naslund. Other lines remain the same as last night.

Grr. Korpikoski hasn't done shit and now this situation is starting to irritate me. This isn't the old Rangers anymore where we have one halfway decent prospect in the entire organization and we have to sit and wait and hope and pray his game develops even though he does next to nothing on a nightly basis (see: Lundmark, Malhotra), our team is jam packed with young players. We don't have to force kids anymore. I at least hope they're playing Drury at center and not Korpikoski. He'll probably have a easier time on the wing.

Yeah, he's playing wing. I don't like Fritsche being out tho. That line had some chances last night. Oh well. Maybe it clicks tonight. Never know with this stuff.

What? You mean Lundqvist shouldn't have foreseen the deflection and played it accordingly? :p

QUOTE(Rocha @ Oct 18 2008, 05:35 PM) *

Fritsche hasn't done anything either. I thought Korpikoski was one of the better forwards in the Buffalo game, which doesn't say much granted, but he stood out with his speed and showed some confidence with the puck. I don't have an issue with this strategy, as none of these kids has stuck yet so. Let them keep moving things around, keeping the legs fresh, until someone distinguishes themselves. It's one thing if they're harming someone's development, but I don't see that. It's too early in the season to get frustrated by this stuff, I think.

That's exactly what they do: shoot the puck and circle the net. Well, that and get away with penalties.

Bad place for a rebound, and an even worse job by Korpikoski and Staal playing no defense in front of the net.

I can't really bitch. This isn't a true litmus test; the Rangers are running on fumes, if they've even got fumes left. Ridiculous schedule.

That first goal in 28 seconds froze Lundqvist. He's shaky. One more goal and he's done.
