We fixed the bullpen, our lineup is pretty much exactly the same and our rotation is kinda meh, but we have depth there.

2 years of chokes in a row, I'd prefer K-Rod and company prove they are the team to beat before they start spoutin' it to the media.

On the bright side, Heilman and Schoenweiss are no longer Mets.

on the not so bright side, Castillo still is.

From the casual fan's perspective (ie. me): With Manny I'd be watching most of their games this season. W/O Manny I'll just watch the big series vs. Phillies/Yanks and hope they win so I can jump on the bandwagon in the fall.

Always acting like the 2nd class team. Granted, I wouldn't want the Mets to do what the Yankees did this season and load up with the most ridiculous, gaudy, overpaid roster ever in professional sports because anything short of a World Series championship is a big fat failure for them now, but the Mets have been dying for that big hitter/big personality player like Ramirez.

I hope everyone picks the fucking Marlins to finish ahead of us this year. We've been choking with expectations. Hell pick us to be in last like 2006, when we reap our revenge this year it will be oh so sweet!

I just hope Castillo never plays a game this year and is cut in spring training. Cut our losses. Can't wait for March 21-23 because I'll be checking us out in Spring Training. Port St. Lucie meet xcdude!

There was something on metsblog that someone posted these photos of some seats that are behind the out-of-town scoreboard. You won't see shit.

you know for all the things i've said about the talk between the mets and phils, this is something I can get on board with. Jose Reyes being the voice of reason? Who knew?

I was talking about these comments elsewhere. He's essentially smack talking by saying the Mets don't smack talk.

Does that make sense?

In other words, he's putting down the Phils by saying the Mets are basically "better than that" He's putting them down, but making it seem like he isn't

edit: my point is, I don't see how it's any better.

You can also read it as him telling his teammates to shut the fuck up.

And Beltran better have another MVP caliber year with all the smack talk he's done the last two years.

Why does the media think its so crazy to start Murphy??? I think he should be ready, and if manuel thinks so too, then good.

Because Murphy is not a legitimate option for a winning team. He came out of nowhere to have a good year last year in AA and had a handful of good at bats with the Mets. He doesn't project to have enough of a bat to be an average regular in left field or first base at his peak, let alone now. This is the same situation is we had in Ruben Gotay, everyone thought he was good off a limited number of at bats and disregarded past history and the scouting reports because he had small success and was a young player.

Murphy doesn't have the bat to play premium position and doesn't have the defensive skills to hack it anywhere to make up for it. He's a present day Ty Wigginton, useful in a pinch, but your not going to win any championships if he's getting a large amount of at bats at a power position like LF or 1B.

Pair snub Francesa

David Wright and Ryan Church declined to be interviewed by Mike Francesa, who was in Port St. Lucie doing his show, because of comments the WFAN host made about them last season.

"I think he's being very immature," Francesa said on the air Friday, referring to Wright. "He needs to grow up."

They have every right to decline an interview with Fat boy, but the Mets deserved to be bashed last year. And while he is a pompous ass, he was probably accurate in his assessment of the Mets and their performance.

Instead... the players chose to avoid reaching their fans on the highest rated afternoon sports show...on their "flagship station". They could have gone on the air and hammered Fat Boy! They could have broke his chops about being a Mets basher. THAT would been sticking it to him.

And they could have promoted their expectations for the new year to their fans at the same time. You know...hope springs eternal. Sounds like these players haven't turned the page from previous years. Not a good sign if you ask me.

No, because the Mets know they've screwed the pooch for 2 years now. Francessa does a hell of a lot more than just point out their shortcomings, and if you've ever listened to a him interview a Met, he actually makes fun of them and their team on the air. The only Met they ever respected on the air was Randolph. Hmmmmm? Why would Francessa respect Randolph? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Why should they grant him interviews again?

Theres a difference between being honest and pointing out a teams shortcomings, and out right disrespecting a club.

Because it's the METS station. And METS fans listen to that jackass. I don't know about you, but I LOVE to hear my teams players interviewed. Even if it was a moron doing it. David Wright could just cut him short if he started rambling about their past performance. Instead he avoided the situation. What would Piazza have done? What would Carter and Hernandez and Darling have done? Sorry...comes off as weak to me.

And I'd REALLY like to hear an example of Francesa making fun of a player WHILE he is interviewing him.

I heard the other day him talking about the Phillies being the favorite in the east because while the teams are close in talent level, the Phils had proven to be able to win during crunch time. Mets fans were calling in pissing and moaning about it, but he was right! I'm not a Mets hater at all and like to think that I can observe objectively. I have never heard him go over the top in criticism of the Mets. I HAVE heard him audibly amused by Met fans reaction to the criticism and their "You're a Yankee fan excuse" for his opinion.
Criticism cuts extra deep when it's the truth.

1. It's the "Mets station" but all Mike and the Mad Dog have ever done is go over the top with the Mets if they even pay attention to them. They traditionally would rather talk about the Yankees. And that was with Mad Dog there to temper Francessa. Now that he's gone, it's only going to get worse.

2. Notice he went after Wright and not Church. He knows he can't go after Church because he went off and said Church didn't want to be here. . .which was a blatant lie. Church has said again and again that he has never said otherwise and wants to play in NY and loves it here. I'm not sure what Francessa did to Wright, but he certainly owes Ryan Church an apology.

Uh Oh. Just saw that Johan is headed to NY for an MRI on that left elbow. Not good at all.

Umm, unless that's old news I just read. In any case, this team is screwed if that elbow isn't right.

He had no problems in his bullpen session and during the game they said he won't be going to NY for the MRI.

Good to see/hear that Johan was not in NY for the MRI, though I wonder if the snowstorm didn't play a tiny part in the decision. In any case, I'm glad that the bullpen session went well for him. I just hope that things go smoothly for him from now on.

ION, I wonder what the lineup will look like for the next few weeks with 4 of the regulars gone for the WBC. A lot of Jeremy Reed/Jose Valentin/Nick Evans I would suppose. Not that thats a bad thing, it IS Spring Training after all.

Oh yeah, read this over the weekend but I forgot to post it:

"Profesor Reyes," the popular between-innings segment at Shea Stadium in which Reyes comically teaches Spanish, is returning after a one-year hiatus. Reyes jokingly said he could no longer watch John Maine do his unfunny "Maine Street USA" geography quiz, which replaced his lessons last season.

You know, I never even saw the Maine thing.

Did anyone see Maine interviewing Kevin Burkhart the other day? I missed it but my sister said it was really funny. I always miss the good stuff! sad.gif

I saw it. It was pretty funny, but it wasn't really an 'interview'. They cut to the dugout during the game and Maine has the microphone and asks Burkhardt how he feels about his upcoming third season covering the Mets. Kevin plays along and answers the question, then takes the mic back and starts interviewing John Maine. My favorite moment after that was when he was talking about Santana being the weak link in their golf foursome and Johan, who was right next to him, turned around and glared incredulously at him. Also of note: He doesn't do in-game interviews after he pitches anymore because he did that once a couple years ago and the Mets went on to lose that game.

Oh, and this just in: Straw would've used steroids if given the opportunity.

QUOTE
"Hell, yeah, I would have used them. Are you kidding me?"

QUOTE
"I'm not saying that was the right thing to do," Strawberry continued, referring to A-Rod's steroid use. "But if somebody asked me if I would have faced it, what would I have done if that was going on in the era of the '80s, it definitely probably would have been in my system, too. I probably would have been a part of it, too. And I wouldn't have denied it, because you guys know I don't deny anything."

Not really a shocking revelation, but his candor is kind of refreshing.

Yeah, my sis mentioned the Santana thing. Santana cracks me up too.

And Kevin was trying to get Maine to do in-game interviews now?

Yeah Kevin asked him if he'd do it this year and Maine replied (as previously stated) that it was essentially bad mojo. Burkhardt then said something like "well, you're bringing back the curveball. Why not bring back the interview, too?" John more or less told him probably not.

Read in the NY Times that Santana may miss the opener, but the schedule may be shifted just a little. Not to worry, but of course we all will!

So I was reading Matt Cerrone's interview with a Phillies blog, and I think I've realized that I now hate the Rays. Really, I was pulling for Tampa last year because they were a scrappy, feel-good story. However, they couldn't get it done against the Phillies so now I hate them for it. I believe I'm a better person for finally realizing and accepting this. Umm... Go Baltimore?

I didn't realize the Shea Auctions were still going on, and just as a note they still have some really cool, over priced goods still up for auction. If the other team flags weren't $250!!!?!?!?! I'd think of getting one as a gift for a friend. If anyone wants to check it out here's the link

http://mets.auction.mlb.com/cgi-bin/ncomme...ture.d2w/report

Man there were some really interesting things still left inside Shea!

SPRING TRAINING WEEKEND! I'll be in Port St. Lucie and Orlando to cheer our Mets on as they play the Braves (in Orlando) and the Marlins (at home). Let's go METS!

Well the cheapskakes a Disney surprisingly give us free wifi so I'll give a quick summary of today Spring Training game @ the Braves. We need to work on our control (especially Maine that got tagged for 6 runs) and when to steal second. Tom Glavine pitched well for 3 innings and the Mets cant hit. Mostly minor leagues, but Church, Evans, and Murphy looked good. Hopefully the regulars play tomorrow at home!

Remember when SNY showed every spring training game? Those were good times.
