I have. Last weekend my brother and I went to a specialty bar that was carrying the Stone stuff on tap. They had to fetch my brother's order of the special brew of Arrogant Bastard* from a cask. Not a keg, from a wooden cask. It was a-maze-ing.

Sadly, after finishing the last of the six pack I bought to start the weekend, I just noticed the price: $15.99 for a six pack. Worth every penny, but with the way I chug brew, I'm going to have to make it a rare treat rather than a weekend standard. I almost bought a case of the stuff too. I imagine I probably would need a credit check for that.

*The bottle for Arrogant Bastard reads: "This is an aggressive beer. You probably won't like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory -- maybe something with a multimillion dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it's made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multimillion dollar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you're mouthing your words as you read this."

I might get the arrogant bastard demon tattooed on me. Pete's a wuss.

Do you mean the Oaked Arrogant Bastard?

Speaking of the labels, you should see the one on the back of the Old Guardian:

I have about fifteen bottles of different beers from them that are aging on my wine rack.

I'm intrigued...where's this specialty bar at and do they have others?

That's really the point of the higher level IPA's though. That's why, outside of a little citrus notes, you won't find much else in those types of beers. It's for people who just love the taste of hops. The Ruination and Dogfish Head 120 min are two of the best out there. Weyerbacher's Hops Infusion is a dynamite one too. Even the standard Stone IPA is damn good.

There's a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican place we found out here called Azteca that has Dos Equis Amber (along with the tried-and-/true/boring Corona and Pacifico), and it goes so well with their steak ranchero and Enchiladas Suiza.

And you would be right to do so. I picked it up once, had half the bottle and spent the rest of the weekend vomiting and unable to keep any food down. Could have been a stomach bug, could have been the beer. I blame the beer. I was fine until I had the beer.

Anyway, lately I've been a sissy boy and have continued to pretend I'm still on vacation by continuing to drink Cap'n Morgan Rum Punches. I sit in my office with a very large glass and put on the ocean waves on the nature sounds thingamajig that my wife picked up a while back to help her sleep, close my eyes and pretend I'm still in Aruba.

I just went through a very brief infatuation with Dark and Stormies after being introduced to them by my neighbir. Dark rum, ginger beer and lime. I loved the first couple I had but I think the honeymoon is over -- How good a Dark and Stormy is is directly proportionate to the quality of the ginger beer.

My favorite store bought beer these days is Otter Creek's Stovepipe Porter. I've heard that their Russian Imperial Stout is pretty good too but I haven't been able to track it down yet.

Isn't that dangerous though? Yikes. Sounds good, but is it too sweet?

Fenway Park, in Boston, is a lyric little bandbox of a ballpark. Everything is painted green and seems in curiously sharp focus, like the inside of an old-fashioned peeping-type Easter egg. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934, and offers, as do most Boston artifacts, a compromise between Man's Euclidean determinations and Nature's beguiling irregularities. - John Updike

I used to enjoy those back in the day. My recipe was Vanilla Stoli (the Smirnov vanilla twist vodka is pretty gross, IMO), OJ and some Sprite for the fizz.

Since this seems to be the beverage thread...

Giac, do you happen to know if anybody exports POG outside of Hawaii? Or, failing that, could you please provide the manes of some POG brands so that I might do that research myself? Much obliged.

Rhino, Meadow Gold Dairies is the primary purveyor of POG juice in the islands; they also own the old Haleakala Dairy brand, which is the company that first marketed POG here. You can make it yourself, if you can find passionfruit and guava juice on the mainland. I understand there's a Motts brand called Mauna La'i -- their "Paradise Passion" juice is passion fruit and guava juice, so you'd only need to add a splash of OJ to get basically the same thing.

The simplest thing to do is click on the Meadow Gold Link above, then click on "Where to Get It." It'll say "locations coming soon," but to the left of the white box center screen is a pdf order form -- they can ship you the concentrate, if you wish. (If you click on the "Out and About With POG link, they even have a couple of pictures with their mascot and a couple of bikinied surfer girls).

Hope this helps!

If it's morning, my weapon of choice is the Low Speed Pursuit - a Bloody Mary with a dash of OJ.

Gin and tonic is excellent. What kind of gin though? I usually go with either Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire.

Speaking of the utter brilliance that is Stone Brewing, this is what I'm enjoying right now:
