Yeah but it's BS that at the start of the game and still in the econd that the fans booed at Malik every time he touched the puck. Way to cheer for your team........it was pathetic and embarassing.

I disagree. It's bad when the fans choose a scapegoat ala Poti and harass the guy all season long even when he plays well, but when you make a huge, dumb mistake in the 3rd period of a playoff game, you're gonna get booed a little. No big deal,as long as they don't do it all day.

A little? Two fing periods is not a little. And, not like the guy has ucked as bad as Poti has in the past too. You can't make one playoff mistakes? Fuck that, who'd want to sign here then.....

What are you, his dad? He made THE worst mistake a defenseman can make, and it cost us a game that we otherwise played great in. Against the 1st seed in the playoffs. In the second round. If I saw him before the game I would kick him in the nuts, then I'd help him up and tell him to play well today.

Yeah, players make major mistakes too.... I can understand if Malik was just a 3rd pair guy or not popular. But he has been the best Rangers defensive d-man in the past two seasons with a great +/- rating in the past four years of his career. You can show some disappointment in the guy at first...maybe in warm ups, the first few minutes of the game. Fine. But it was constant for the first two periods. I mean, enough already...shut the fuck up and stop booing the player because it creates the atmosphere that the fans are booing the team.

Very fucking smart when the team needs to be in excellent condition and focus playing a crucial game. No excuse for the booing. It was embarrassing. He made a great play on Drury and cleared the puck out. How about a cheer for that?

Like i said.....the guy can be so steady for a stretch of games and one mistake later on means that some Rangers fans want him off the team. It's as dumb as Habs fans booing Jagr for no reason.

No, i am just ridiculing the logic, rather...."illogic", and i don't care who it was on the Rangers that got booed, it was stupid and embarassing anyway.

While I'm not down with booing the guy all the time, hasn't it been demonstrated that +/- is the MOST MEANINGLESS STAT in all of sports? I want him to play well, but I just can't get excited over +/-. That said, he is the kind of guy who can play great for the majority of a game, but when he does screw up oh my god does he screw up.

I agree that +/- is not a dependable number; it's overrated and it doesn't tell you the whole story about a defenseman. But....Malik finished this season with a +32. The next best d-man rating on the Rangers? Rozsival with +10. That's 22 point difference and there is a reason for it; Malik looks better than he appears. In his whole career, he's never had more than a -8. He is very good defensively and many times you don't see it, but he does the job in a very good way to have that big difference in +/-.

Yes, when he makes a mistake, it's brutal...i am not denying that. But any NHL fan that browses the internet, and comes across Rangers fans saying how Malik sucks and should be traded, we'd be considered dumb fans. His numbers say otherwise.

I remember when we signed this guy and i called him a great signing. Brooks called it the worst. There was somewhat of a 50/50 opinion on the HB boards about it. I liked him as a Canuck whenever i stayed up late to watch their games. And my bud, the owner of HTR.com, is a Canuck fan and said to me he was a very good signing since the guy used to bail out Jovo and his bad mistakes in the D-zone.

What happened to the Nucks last year? Did not make the playoffs. They had 255 GA last season. And the season before that they had 194 GA. Yeah, Malik makes a difference.

I just found it so dumb that all season long i saw Rangers fans despise the guy whenever he had a bad game and wanted him traded. And one bad costly and inexcusable mistake in the playoffs gets him loud boos in two periods. Just uncalled for. Yet the good plays....naaaa, who cares about those.

But in general, the point is, you shouldn't boo any player at 19:59 of a crucial playoff game. That's just shameful.

I agree w/ what you're saying. But 255 v. 194 is due to Post-lockout v. Pre-lockout. Those numbers are meaningless side by side

I still think that GAA had more to do with the fact that the Canucks had absolute crap in goal before this season, but I won't argue with booing the guy going into OT. Hell, I'd love to have a team that has no one I want to boo. Some people would die without a scapegoat but I'd love to have that situation. These are probably the same people who call for Henke because Weekes just gave up a 2 on 0 goal to Sakic and Hejduk or something similarly stupid.

True.....somewhat; i wouldn't say enitrely meaningless. And their goaltending wasn't that much better with Cloutier either.

I have no problem booing a player when he makes a bad play. But to continue to do it every time he touches the puck is counter-productive. To let it carry over to other games is just ridiculous. This is NYC, not Philly.

I have this strange feeling that having an entire arena boo a player every time he touches the puck will not help the player improve his play.

Anyway...

Stole this from someone. Seems like a good time to post it.

This was a topic in tonight's Rodent-Bird-Rocha podcast (which turned out awesome, by the way, so much better than last week). Bird's views were similar to 101's, I'm more in the middle, and Rodent more on the other end. Look for it tomorrow night. /end promo

Meh. They booed the fuck out of Ozo last year. I bet you didnt have a problem with that. Malik has had a good couple of months now. He is playing a bit more physical too. He fucked up though, and hes been booed for more than just this.. The fans have been on him all year. Its not something new. I dont like him. Hes not all his +/- is cracked up to be. Hes a product of who he plays with (his +/- is only good when he plays with Jagr or other stars like Bertuzzi and Naslund).

Im really not minding him as much right now, but I really hope they have plans on dumping him this summer. Staal, Pock, or Tyutin could take his place and the team wouldnt miss a beat. It may even improve.. So, fuck Malik. See ya later ya big doous. Hope some team is desperate enough to take you over-rated ass. Booooooooooo! indeed.

I thought some fans got on him unfairly (still think that way) We just didn't have Poti to bitch about anymore... someone had to take the punishment.
