And maintaining the momentum the "Big 4" kicked off in Indio seems to be an immediate priority – particularly for Metallica. "We are looking to book something on the East Coast because of the success of this – it should hopefully come together in a week or two," Ulrich said.

Roll Call. Who's coming if this shows up on the East Coast?

Who's heading up Anthrax these days? Is it Joey?
Nilan 666
You may not believe this but I could not possibly care less about this bill. I've seen Slayer 16 times, I forgot Anthrax existed, Metallica have been crap for decades and the idea of Dave Mustaine getting a cent out of me offends me on levels I was unaware I had.

Essentially. Though I haven't seen Slayer 16 times.
Bleedin-Blue
Yeah, it's still pretty cool though. The idea of being at a 'Big Four' concert is definitely something I never thought I'd have the chance to witness. As long as they stick to their CLASSIC shit, it'll be a pretty good show I think.
Beamer
Yeah, I'm in the "all those bands suck now" camp. As well as the "3 of the 4 don't even hold up these days" camp.

Actually haven't seen a single one of them. I was too young to see them back when they did shows of less than 200 people, and I hate concerts with more than that. ::hipster::
Nilan 666
However if they play MSG I'll pregame with you guys of course.

Now that I think about it, I didn't pay to see Megadeth back on the Youthanasia tour...dammit, now I face an ethical dillema. Crap. Thanks a lot, douche.

I'm in this camp.

I saw Clash of the Titans in '91, but it was Alice in Chains instead of Metallica (needless to say, we stayed out in the parking lot until it was time for the big 3), not to mention that it was the glory days of speed metal. Today my respect for Metallica is esentially non-existent, and Anthrax doesn't do it for me without Joey Belladona. Not to mention, theses dudes are kind of old to keep up that same pace. It's different than Iron Maiden who weren't/aren't thrashers.

Nilan 666
Joey is back in Anthrax, for now anyway.

Yeah, the bill seemed a lot more exciting before I realized it wasn't 1992 anymore.

At the same time, who the fuck am I kidding? I'm pretty sure I'll have to turn in any of my "Aging Metalhead" cred if I pass up this concert...*

Slayer was hitting up "House of Blues" sized venues (like, well, The House of Blues) as of a few years ago. My friend actually saw them unload their own shit from the van when they played the House of Blues in New Orleans. We all died a little bit that day.

I'd also be surprised if you couldn't catch Anthrax at a similar sized venue in this day and age. (If you wanted to go see Anthrax, that is.)
Knight of Dight
Megadeth had like one good album (Rust in Peace) and Metallica's last decent album was the Black Album, released over 20 years ago. Slayer and Anthrax were kind of before my time.
Andy from the LES
I thought "Death Magnetic" was pretty good, actually.

Figure this: Each band has X amount of time, per venue restrictions, so you know they're only playing the best shit.

Wasn't Death Magnetic the one with the song The Saddest Feeling? Seriously? And didn't it also give us "my lifestyle determines my deathstyle?" Seriously?

"People say, 'Goddamn, Dave never gets a break, he's had such a hard life,' and I just think, 'No, Dave didn't - he got into black magic and it ruined his life.'"

Yeah, Dave. Hard life.
Dave Mustaine is a songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist; he has a net worth of $20 million. Dave Mustaine has earned his net worth with the American thrash metal band Megadeth, and he was also the first lead guitarist and co-songwriter of Metallica until 1983. Joel McIver’s book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists ranked him as number 1 in 2009, and he was also ranked eighty-ninth by Hit Parader on their list of the 100 Greatest Metal Vocalists of All Time. He is also the manager for the Canadian band “Baptized in Blood”. Born in La Mesa, California, he recently released his autobiography in the US, titled “Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir”.

Actually, it's because he's a prejudiced asshole. We all know he's not "cool" anymore, but to say some of the shit that he has in the last decade and then expect a modicum of respectability is ridiculous. Not to mention he's got a voice like a chocking preteen.

Oh, and by the way I have no idea what the difference between metal and hardcore is so fuck it, I'll just lump them together. I'm just too old to listen to good music and I'm gonna go turn on some Ratt, now THAT was metal!"

This is from the guy that says that "Appetite for Destruction" is one of the best albums ever made, so clearly your taste in music leans towards being cheesy shit being produced by pretentious asshats. No wonder you like Mustaine so much!

You are a mainstream rock fan, and as such know fuck-all about metal. Go masturbate while listening to "Welcome to the Jungle" for the 473'rd time and leave those of us with discerning tastes in music alone.

Oh please. Anytime someone brings up music and their favorite form of metal, out come the same board members to shit all over it. Get over yourselves. People like what they like and that's that. You don't care for Metallica anymore? Good for you. No one else gives a shit. Don't want to go see a show? Just say pass and move along. For fucks sake everyone just shut the fuck up already. If you want to go to the show, say so. I didn't ask for anyone's opinion on whether any of the four bands suck or not. I just want to know who wants to go. That way, if the rumor that they're gonna play the Meadowlands pans out, we can make arrangements to go.

And nearly all falsetto metal sucks. Nearly. It's hard to sound intimidating in falsetto.

Did Nilan, Beamer, or I post anything inflammatory before HDH posted that? Civil disagreements do not constitute trolling, last time I checked. Like you said, people like what they like and that's that. But somehow it's okay for someone to come in and shit on people's musical tastes if you agree with them?

Pfft. Jean shorts are so 1985.

If the term "hipster" denotes someone that has tastes outside the mainstream, sign me right up. I don't do stuff to be pretentious, I have discerning tastes in music. There's a difference.

Edit: by the same logic I'm a "food hipster" because I don't eat at Friday's every other day and heat up microwave dinners. So I'm ironically making chili dogs right now.

"Metal" is such a nicely vague, blanket term that there actually isn't all that much overlap between those of us on the board that claim to listen to it.

I still say that, despite being influential, Megadeth hasn't held up at all, Slayer hasn't held up well at all, Metallica albums have held up but the band itself hasn't, and Anthrax just never was anything I much liked.

What has he said? The only thing I quickly checked was his Wikipedia page, which mentions his Christianity and aversion to condoning things that run afoul of his beliefs. To some people, that's called integrity. I think that if you call your band something like "Rotting Christ" you forfeit any expected sympathy when someone is offended by you.
