I never suggested the Rangers should go after Parenteau. Guy like that needs to play for a small franchise with no pressure that gives him a shot to play and a great center. ie. The New York Islanders.

The Rangers offered one bona fide NHL player, having the worst season of his professional career, for an all-star in his prime. My criticisms aside, I can't fathom why Columbus would even consider that offer. How do you sell this move to season ticket holders?

QUOTE(jkman61494 @ Feb 27 2012, 09:48 AM)

I was laughed at when I said the Rangers should go after Parenteau, but I think he's really underrated. The question about him, (and any other free agent), is if he could buy into the Torts system. The guy's a very good playmaker and could make for a nice winger on this team.
Per the belief this will be boring, ESPN had an interesting stat. There were 31 trades in 2010. Last year just saw 16. With a lot of deals already been completed, I could see this approaching 10 today. With 24 teams I believe .500 or better, I don't see where the moves are going to be made.
Despite being pretty horrid, Edmonton looks like they're done selling, Columbus has sold almost all of their parts, and about everyone else in this league believe they're in the hunt.
One NHL exec told a TSN guy that this could be one of the busiest trade deadlines in years. I think your point could very well happen too, though.
I think Montreal will clean house. Carolina will trade some as well. Buffalo may sell some parts as well. Minnesota may sell a bit as well. Tampa Bay has some parts to sell. Washington may want to make some changes too.

Seriously, is it just pure Islander bias here? Kyle Quincey got traded for a first round pick!
I don't think it's that irrational to say that you'd want a first round pick for a guy who is 6th in the NHL in assists and tied with Martin St. Louis for 17th in the NHL with 58 points. Not when you're seeing role players get traded for 2nd rounders.
Now, I'm not saying Edmonton should go give up their pick. But the Rangers? Nashville? St. Louis? Teams outside of the top ten in scoring with Cup aspirations? I don't think that's a steep price since everyone says the draft class is not good.

Well... a 1st rounder that will most likely be 27th to 30th. Any team that will have a 20th or lower overall pick would laugh at that request.

Yeah, the offer as you lay it out looks crappy, when you don't include the fact that at least 1 blue chip prospect and a first round draft pick was in the offer also. So ya know, you can sell the season ticket holders on you rebuilding for the future.
I didn't say it was a great offer, I said it was the best offer out there. Once Nash's agent spoke up, I think the writing was pretty much on the wall that they want this done now.

I clicked on NHL Network. Said a guy named David Jones on the Avs was on the block. I've honestly never heard him but when looking at his stats, he's not half bad looking. 6'2, 210, 27 years old.
45 points in 77 games last year and 28 points in 53 this season. Also a very manageable cap hit of under $2.5 million.
Has anyone seen this guy play?
