I'm sorry..

But to me those hits are extremely similar. Neil was looking to injure there. In that positioning, there was no need for him to even come remotely close to the head. A nice driving shoulder to the midsection was more than doable, and would have done the same to drive him to the ground.

This is just continuing the nightmare for the Rangers. How is that hit by Neil any less an intention to injure than Hagelin's ill-timed shot on Daniel? How is Hagelin, who had no prior record either suspended 3 games? It's just more maddening inconsistency.

I don't care. I will go overboard. If the referees and the league won't protect Ranger players, then I hope we use Stu Bickel to just go and mug Chris Neil. In fact, let's just have Rupp go after one of his linemates. Maybe we can get TWO third man in's! It seems to the NHL that type of goon hockey is only worth between $2,500 and a 1 game suspension so why not?

The NHL's treatment of situations involving Boyle in this series have been an utter disgrace.

Maybe it's my disappointment in the Rangers, but I swear, these past two weeks have made me LESS of a hockey fan, and I blame the NHL for that. Bettman will never come out and say it, but he'd much rather have Game 3 of the Pens/Flyers every night than a good 3-2 overtime game.

Completely agree.

Just makes me think of Mess vs. Modano. Can't guarantee a stretcher drop though.

I can just see it coming, at every level I played..and it was just up til high school...Ive never been a pro. But at each level if the refs or league doesnt protect you, you at times are forced to stand up for yourselves.

I really cant tell if Im mad at the Rangers for being a game down to the 8th place Sens...as well as being mad at the mess the league is in...or just flipping out over the lack of justice in not suspending a player for 'intent to injure'

You can clearly see Neil's eyes locked on target all the way up the ice, he saw Boyle's head was 'down' and could have easily just knocked him down, but he threw his shoulder up into his head.

Yes his skates never left the ice...they did not need to he was able to reach his intented target with his his shoulder.

That hit was a directed cheap shot at Boyle's head and Neil got the results he wanted.

I kept getting angier and angier listening to Milberry after the game rant at Torts saying its a clean hit cause Neil never left his feet...and the puck was just shot.

The point was it was clearly a cheap shot aimed at his head and with the intent to hurt Boyle.

Not that hard to see why it shouldve been punished is all I am saying.

That and Lord help Neil when the Rangers come looking for some payback. mad.gif

Every sports guy I have heard on Mad Dog Radio on XM/Sirius today have railed against the league for not suspending Neil, citing the fact that the hit wasn't that much different than the one Torres sent on Hossa.

At this point, I'm done taking the high road. It's clear the league and the officials have no interest in protecting Rangers players. I hate to be the "if you can't beat them, join them" group, but if the league won't enact justice, then perhaps we can tomorrow.

We hardly use Bickel. Have him go and mug someone.
jkman61494
And Keith Jones can suck it. Really

The Sens best player is Chris Neil. And heaps praise on the clean hit to "eliminate" Boyle.

We might as well give a standing ovation at Torres's effort to take Hossa out until next fall.

Seriously, does the ex-players and league have it out for the Rangers? It's like they're cheering for their destruction.
TeamStewie
Yeah I wanted to hit that meathead. Just because it was technically within the law doesn't make it clean but then again he makes his living justifying the Flyers so it's expected.

Man, as an ex-defenseman I would have done literally the exact same thing Neil did. I don't really see much wrong with that hit. Now about the whole NHL consistency thing, yeah, whatever, but Neal didn't break the rules. Advocating mugging him over a clean hit is dumb.

1) Rule 48 – Illegal Check to the Head A hit resulting in contact with an opponent’s head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted. However, in determining whether such a hit should have been permitted, the circumstances of the hit, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit or the head contact on an otherwise legal body check was avoidable, can be considered.

I guess if someone is taking a shot and the follow through makes them dip their head it is open season on their noggin? Fuck that.

Boyle's career could of been ended on that dangerous hit.

I think the league missed a huge opportunity here.

Beamer
The hit looked very different than the Torres hit, to me.
Andy from the LES
Kill me all you want, but I thought the Neil/Boyle hit was clean.
Tex
I feel like what is most frustrating about the Boyle thing is that, with that hit, the sens removed the one guy who really boosted his level for the playoffs and threatened them the most whenever he was on the ice. The fact that "the playoff guy" for the NYR was not one of our big budget dudes is pretty disappointing, to me. It's as though we really are going to have to rely on the Ruppageddon or a Fedsational finish to advance. Yikes. shock.gif

Max Pacioretty's suspension was for the exact same hit in the exact same circumstances - where the follow-through from the shot caused Letang's head to dip.

He was suspended because he didn't go out of his way to avoid making contact with Letang's head. How that is any different from what Neil did is beyond my comprehension.

This is utter B.S. and stinks of Campbell now calling the shots instead of (Puppet) Shanny.

Oh and Dubi sucks.

(edited to add 'Oh and Dubi sucks.')

After looking at the hit multiple times I honestly think that was a clean hit. Boyle came across the middle with his head down and he got tagged. I also thought the Hossa hit wasn't as bad as people made it out to be the only problem there was that he left his feet other than that good hit. This is still hockey and when you have 200 lb. guy flying into each other someone is gonna get hurt no matter what pads and protective gear they have on. Was he aiming for his head? I can't say yes or no to that one only Neil knows what he was going for and I highly doubt that if he was he would admit it. Is this any different then when Scott Stevens leveled Lindros or turned Kariya inside out? I never thought Steven as dirty ( was one of my favorite D-men to watch after Leetch and Beuk ) I just thought he was a hard hitting defensemen.

However seeing how hard they came down on Torres for the Hossa hit I don't see how Neil doesn't get the same treatment. If Torres got 25 games for his hit Neil should of gotten at least 5. But this just shows more inconsistency on Shanahan and the NHL's part. They are pushing more and more fans away with what they are doing. And I'm not talking about new fans... forget that I mean long time die-hard fans. Its getting sicking to see how bias the NHL really is. Gary Bettman is the worse thing to ever happen to hockey.
Beamer
I thought Stevens was dirty as shit. He headhunted.

I do not think the Boyle hit was headhunting. I think Boyle just happened to have his head down. It's hard to see from the angle, but it doesn't look like Neil is intentionally aiming his hit higher. Torres jumped to get more momentum and to hit higher, making it clearly trying to hurt and pretty definitely headhunting.

Neil just hit a guy very hard as he moved the puck. That I'll give the "it's a hockey play" excuse to.
