Finally, for fans of Spanish guitar, check out Rodrigo y Gabriela:

LOVE their stuff.

Speaking of those two, a few months back I heard them covering Orion by Metallica on Sirius with just the two Spanish guitars. It's pretty damn cool.

I've been listening to a lot of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah this week. Their live album from Lollapalooza is amazing. This video is not from that concert...

This.

The new album? meh. It's okay. Not a classic by any stretch. Methinks they coulda done better by not trying to imitate Queen.

Sticking this here since it seems appropriate.

The Foo Fighters are doing a concert from their studio tonight and will be broadcasting it across the Internet, specifically on Facebook. 10 p.m. Eastern since they're out in Cali.

These guys are supposed to be on a break! Yet they have a new greatest hits album coming out. They're doing scattered shows together. This is a break? laugh2.gif

Did Nate Mendel play bass? He is currently touring with his prior band, Sunny Day Real Estate (who are absolutely awesome live). I saw them at Terminal 5 and it was one of the better shows that I have ever seen.

How did you like Terminal 5 itself? I keep hearing it's the WORSE venue in NYC. I may be going there on Sunday to see Wolfmother.

The setup is pretty bad. There is a floor and two levels of balconies. Everything is General Admission. The problem with the balconies is that if you are on the sides and not directly against the rail, you cannot see anything. I am a pretty short guy and I was like one row behind and I could barely see anything at all. If you go there and are not into the crowds on the floor (I have grown too old) make sure you either go on the balcony directly across from the stage or get there super early and carve out your spot on the rail. You are going to have to fight for it too since people are assholes.

Thanks to Chris4 for turning me on to the Avett Brothers earlier in this thread. I've listened to "I and Love and You" about 15 times in the last few days.

That's pretty funny. I'm listening to it as we speak and was just coming to this thread to post about it. I'm also loving it.

If you like the Avett Brothers then you definitely need to check out the Mumford And Sons album I mentioned a while back, Sigh No More. Legally it's only available as an import so you may need to get creative but I can tell you that I'll be first in line to buy it when it's released States-side.

Will do, thanks.

This Avett CD really is incredible. Heavy and folksy without being too serious, lyrics profound without being cryptic or pretentious.

Yeah, this describes Mumford and Sons to a T as well. If you love one you'll love the other. 'Really a great yar for this sort of music.

BTW, did I ever ask you if you'd heard the new Felice Brothers album? I've been wrestling with it all year. Not nearly as accessible as their last one but I have a sneaking suspicion it might be a better album.

I meant to pick up a lot of the Felice CDs after I saw them, but never got around to it. They have a pretty big catalog for a group that's only been around a few years. I'm embarrassed to admit that I only know their radio tracks and a few others.

The eponymous album was my introduction to them and I frickin' love that album. I was initially disappointed in their latest album, Yonder is The Clock, but I keep coming back to it and the more I listen to it the more I like it. It's a darker album on some level and I think what attracted me to them in the first place was their sense of fun so maybe that's why I struggle with the new one. But, like I said, I keep coming back to it so something is obviously clicking there.

Interesting, because "Penn Station" is certainly not played so seriously, though you could interpret the lyrics as being pretty dark. I meant to pick up some of the albums, just got sidetracked.

As an aside, how do you have the time to listen to as much music as you do? Do you listen a lot at work? I get a little distracted when I try to do that. I also don't find myself with a lot of free time during weeknights. I try and go to a lot of live shows (Neko Case w/Calexico in Tarrytown next Wednesday!), though those are obviously limited.
Chris4
.. And funny enough Simone Felice played drums on "I and Love and You".

If you guys are diggin the new one, definetly check out their last two records. "Four Thieves Gone" has some greats on it and their last record "Emotionalism" is their masterpiece.

Can't say enough about these guys..

I've also just been turned onto this Gutter Twins record. Which I'm sure has been mentioned somewhere in the Mark Lanegan portion of this thread. Good stuff.

Listening to some new songs from Julian Casablancas (from the Strokes) and Tegan and Sara. Nothing earth shattering but decent, catchy songs....you know, good background music for your commute or for work.

My commute is a half hour by car each way so I listen to a lot in the car.

Since I got my iPod, though, yeah, I listen to stuff at work now too which helps me narrow down what's worth burning to a CD for the car. Sometimes I find it distracting and other times it helps me focus so whether or not I listen at work and how much varies day to day.

I used to listen to a lot at home but I don't have much time for that anymore.

Yeah - I bought a ticket for her Beacon show last month before realizing that it was the same night as the Rangers home opener, so I sold it. I wasn't sure I could show my face again around here if I went to the show instead, though with the way this season's headed I may have chosen poorly. The guy I sold the ticket to said she was incredible, so hope you like it.

i bought the new Brand New album when it came out, and never gave it a chance. i was listening to it today on the train and ive changed my opinon about it. its got some real interesting sounds and a nice variety.

To be honest, I almost didn't make it through Fallon's intro.

This clip should have ended with ?uestlove jumping his drum kit and ramming a drumstick through that career vampire's dead black heart. Yoko, too.

2 minutes, 3 seconds. Jesus. I've heard worse excuses for songs than that, but I still hope Yoko Ono burns forever in hell.

I think they didn't even write this song so much as make it up on the spot. That said I used to review albums for websites and I've heard much worse. Wake me when you can make it through a Meat Shits album. Also why is the German Bundeswehr her backup band?

And, painful as it was, I made it through the whole thing. Ian McKellan dances a bit at the end. Not actually worth it, but kind of nice. Like a cool breeze in Hell.
