I'm pretty sure I'm seeing Explosions in the Sky in Charlotte April 3rd. I'm a big fan, and I've heard they put on one of the best live shows in the business.

Yeah, I like that a lot. Thanks. I'm going to have to check that out.

Also, linked further down the page is Local Natives doing their song Who Knows Who Cares as part of one of those take away concerts.

Cliff, do yourself a favor and see this band live. They are so good its not even funny. I love singing. Good singing. And there is a WHOLE bunch of it.

Thanks -- I'll have to do that.

One of the reasons I love these Take Away Concerts is that they really tap into the core of what makes a band great. It was one of these (maybe even posted by you) that turned me onto Menomena.

Psyched to see these guys next week for a measly $12! So many good shows coming up.

I'd totally drive 4 hours up from Atlanta to see that. I hope they come down here when I'm still in school, then do NYC when I'm home! That'd be amazing. I've always wanted to see them live, and am psyched for their new album.

You lucky fucker. Were they recently out west? I'll be pissed if I missed a chance to see them.

Eh, no such luck. They play Charlotte, then Richmond, then NYC. Then they are off to Europe for the rest of the tour.

Meh. Hopefully NPR records a concert, or a bootleg is posted online. Still pumped for the new album.

Nah their only shows in the U.S are the Richmond, Charlotte, and NYC ones.

Yeah, I hope their new album is legit. I'm just getting into How Strange, Innocence, the last record I haven't really listened to. They just make such good music.

I'm totally grooving on Plastic Beach recently. It's not great top to bottom, but there are definitely great tracks. White Flag, Some Kind of Nature, Stylo. Rhinestone Eyes is the absolute standout to me.

Yeah, Plastic Beach is a fun album. I've always loved the Gorillaz.

I think that I've listened to this album at least ten times through while shoveling snow this winter. Yeah, there are some low points, but I think that the highs more than make up for them.

Fourthed on Plastic Beach, one of the few albums in recent memory where I don't have the inclination to skip any tracks. I really like "Empire Ants" too.

Went to see The Moth at Cooper Union last night - really love that show, and seeing it in my beloved alma mater made it even better. The stories were equally intense and poignant, and funny and quirky. Someone opened with a story about a being a gay teenager growing up in Alabama and going on his first deer hunts, and Rachel Dratch later told one about dating in New York, and a guy who got bombed on their first date and told her he loved to eat horse meat. For anyone not familiar, The Moth is sort of like This American Life in a non-interview format. People just get up and tell their stories in front of a live audience. Some are celebrities or actors, others amateurs. http://www.themoth.org/.

I tend to skip the last half of Glitter Freeze. Gets annoying.

Speaking of Gorillaz, they released a new album a few weeks ago, "The Fall". Entirely recorded on Albarn's iPad, while he was on tour.

I heard the first track, Phoner to Arizona, and really didn't like it. The rest is supposed to be pretty good though, I'm going to give it a listen.

EDIT: You have to sign up for their mailing list to hear the album, boo. The fill-in form has an opt-out box though, and it takes b.s. mobile numbers, e.g. 9999999999.

The whole thing kind of reminds me of TMBG's Venue Songs.
Mike B.
I actually like it - I have no idea why he would lead off the album and release that Arizona song first, the rest of it is so much better.

Apparently, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem was a little taken aback by the demand for their "farewell show" at MSG on April 2nd, and didn't have an adequate plan in place to prevent scalpers from swooping up all the tickets.

holy shit

this here is just to say that we were more than taken aback and surprised about the speed of ticket sales for the april 2nd MSG gig, as well as the effectiveness of scalper pieces of fucking shit at getting their hands on said tickets before fans could, and it's knocked us on our asses.

...

i bought 2 tickets to my own show for 3 times the value like an idiot to see if real tickets showed up. my family got burned.

...

we're going to play 4 shows at terminal 5 in nyc leading up to the MSG show, and they will include most if not all of the songs we play at MSG. the farewell run-up to the last dance. it'll be the 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st of march.

...

oh - and a small thing to scalpers: "it's legal" is what people say when they don't have ethics. the law is there to set the LIMIT of what is PUNISHABLE (aka where the state needs to intervene) but we are supposed to have ethics, and that should be the primary guiding force in our actions, you fucking fuck.

I have never been into them, but I may have to go to one of those Terminal 5 shows just to be able to say I was there.

Understandable. Don't listen to the shit Varg wrote when he was in prison 'cause it'll put you to sleep. His first few albums are great but hard to get into.

My facebook is blowing up with outrage that Arcade Fire won album of the year. Granted these are the guys that are shopping at the 10 new shopping malls that pop up all the time, so I figured they wouldn't get it.

Enslaved got hosed.

Social Distortion has a new album out. So far, me likey.

Funeral IS the album. I dont even really like the Suburbs. When the masses come, so do the Grammys. Still fucking awesome though that fucking Merge Records just took down the headline music award in the world. Ronald Thomas Clontle approves.

New Amon Amarth track here. Shit's killer!

Hooray, new Low Anthem is streaming.

Also - new Radiohead available digitally this Saturday, "newspaper" edition with two vinyl records, CD, artwork and other assorted swag in May - for $48 friggin dollars. I guess the CDs/vinyls alone will be available in March.

The Suburbs was a fantastic album.

Yeah it's awesome they won, although I was surprised as shit.
Cee lo got hosed. That should have won song of the year, but the Grammy's are a fucking joke so I don't know why I care.

I thought Arcade Fire's performance was awesome. Win Butler couldn't stop smiling while doing "Ready to Start" he was so excited/shocked they won. Pretty cool stuff.

What did you think? Initial impressions are that I don't like it as much as OMCD, though Ghost Woman Blues is great. It may also be because I'm listening to it on crappy work machine speakers.

I suspect that I will end up liking it as much or more than OMGCD but it's had to say. It's a subtle album. But haunting. Perfect for listening to while you work. I suspect it will grow on me but it could also be one of those albums that just blurs into the background.
