The Russian Vodka Room! How have I never been to that place before?!
http://nymag.com/listings/bar/russian_vodka_room/QUOTE
Those huge jars of liquid behind the bar are not science experiments; they're vats of delicious, ferocious homemade flavor-infused vodka. One shot, served by the lovely bartendress, will knock you off your barstool. After two, you'll be cheering the end of the Cold War with the rest of the talkative Russians downing shots at the curved bar and front banquettes, or dining on caviar-topped blinis at the dimly-lit tables in back. With no windows, live piano music, and eccentric regulars, RVR makes it easy to get lost in the fun-house atmosphere. —

I'm pretty sure I've been there, unless there's a very similar place in the same neighborhood. It was fun. The infusions on the menu look especially good -- seem familiar from when I was there, but a few of them are new. Tarragon!? I'd live on it. and I'm not a vodka girl in the least.

I had the garlic, pepper and dill vodka, and it was simultaneously brutal and awesome. Maybe a little too much dill.

Are the vodkas actually
flavored, or do they still taste like vodka (much like the bottled "flavored" vodkas)?

Oh, it tasted like vodka alright. I would say that it was more "infused" than flavored - it wasn't syrupy or anything.

A very well written article by Shane MacGowan, lead singer of the band The Pogues (and my avatar) about alcohol and Irish Culture. Apparently his family started providing him alcohol at the age of 4.
Drink is the Foxy DevilApparently he has also slowed his drinking down to the point where he is mild healthy. Good for him.

Belgians tend to be strong like that. A local brewery has a seasonal Quad that's really good but ranges from 12-13% and isn't something you can really drink much of out at dinner.

Jameson will never taste better than the time a few weeks ago I preceded it with a shot of Chinese baijiu (110 proof or so grain alcohol.) The fact that that stuff is poison makes Jameson a whole lot better.
